  1. When exactly would this trade have been made? Right before or right after the Marlins extended him for 4 years? Johnson wasn't going anywhere this past offseason.
  2. The Cubs won't have a hole at 1B, after this season, Soriano will be playing 1B. I'd wager very heavily on that fact. He's become more and more dreadful in LF each season.
  3. Considering the Yankees TV deal, pre-YES network was 55M a year, there's absolutely no way they are making less than that now.
  4. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/98474324.html C'mon Anthony. They are pretty much the worst defensive team in the league. No way they are even close to "middle of the pack"
  5. UVerse is very dependent on having new (fiber) phone lines installed to the nearest node within the last 10 or so years.... also, it really helps to have new copper lines put in recently as well. Anything older than that, and it cannot carry the data required to broadcast, so it's (sadly) still very specific into which buildings and areas can have it.
  6. We have control of all 3 of those guys through 2011. So, unless we trade all 3 this season/this off season, they'll be back.
  7. Incorrect. McGehee was playing plenty at 2B at that point and time and both Gamel and McGehee could've been playing. Instead, Macha consistently started 38 year old Craig Counsell at both 3b and 2B while Gamel was up. Ridiculous.
  8. Yep, next year they are gonna run 4 PGs and Kevin Love.
  9. I was at this game: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SLN/SLN200609300.shtml In which Brian Shouse came in. Faced one batter. IBB'd him. And got the loss.
  10. Chicago is poised to make a run in the Central. I think most people would call them the favorites, with the addition of Boozer. I do like the Bucks chances, though. As for the top seeds: 1) Miami 2) Orlando 3) Boston After that, I think 4-6 could be very up in the air, between Milwaukee, Chicago, and Atlanta. Sanders looked really good in his 2nd summer league game, as did Tiny Gallon. If only they can both stop turning the ball over.
  11. I always thought Braun looked a lot like Clint Dempsey http://www.phillysoccerpage.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Clint-Dempsey2.jpg
  12. By all accounts I've read, the Braves (and specifically, Bobby Cox) got sick of Escobar's lollygaggyness (yes, I'm making up the word) and lack of effort both on and with off the field workouts.
  13. The triangle is really predicated on having guards who can hit the open jumper (and having good passing big men) and guards who can post up (see Ron Harper, Derek Fisher). The idea with the triangle is that all the spots, other than the Center, are really interchangeable. Flynn just isn't that good of a shooter (yet?) and as far as I know, doesn't have a post up game. He'd be much better using his quickness in an offense like the Bucks which utilizes the pick 'n roll much more often.
  14. Dress it up in a suit and put it in a chair once or twice a month.
  15. I agree completely. What a Cup. Even though the Final wasn't as smooth & flowing as I'd hope, watching the Netherlands impart their will and constantly deny space and pressure the Spanish was really awesome. It did make me think, though, had that been the USA and not Spain, the US would've lost about 43-0 to that kind of constant on-the-ball pressure. I'm also glad it didn't go to PK's, because, well, there would've been 2 weeks of complaints by the US media.
  16. They need 10 wins in the second half for Melvin to keep his job. Hopefully they can go 10-60.
  17. I can handle a defensive battle, but there was so much diving, so many calls... I cannot fault the referee, he kept trying to get control of the match, but there was really nothing he could do, beyond sending someone off from both teams. It felt like a mid 90's game between the Knicks and the Pistons, ending up like 72 to 64 or something. Spain never once tried to stay on their feet. Even the call which got the Denmark player sent off, the Spaniard was barely touched.
  18. And they didn't finish over .500 once in the... 10 years before he became GM? And his first wave of prospects made the playoffs. There were five guys that Melvin didn't bring in on that 2008 team, I believe. Hart, Fielder, Hall, Sheets and Parra. The cupboard was BARE when he took over. I guess I wonder what people expect. Yes, it's been a poor 12 months.... but they were doing great last year until 3 of their starting pitchers got hurt at the same time. I'd much rather stick with Doug than have gotten "lucky enough" to have the other "hot GM" that the Royals got in Dayton Moore.
  19. Oh man, could you imagine him being traded tonight... and being in a different uniform for the HR derby tomorrow?
  20. What an ugly game. If anyone wants to know why Americans (or anyone in general) doesn't like soccer, this game is why. Diving left and right, players faking injuries, and... what... 11 yellows I think? Such a shame, the biggest game on the biggest stage came down to thuggery and flailing as opposed to skill and stamina.
  21. No. No. No. UZR/150 is UZR averaged over 150 games. It is better if you use 2 or 3 seasons worth of data, but all its doing for the current season is extrapolating whatever the guy has done so far this year for 150 games. MGL explains it better than I ever could: http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/comments/i_really_wish_people_would_stop_quoting_a_players_uzr_150_part_way_through_/
  22. If you're going to bunt, why not use a pitcher. Honestly. He did this earlier in the year when the bench was short and he had Counsell pinch hit to bunt... and ended up having to hit a pitcher (Wolf?) the next inning with two guys on.
  23. The Mariners actually play the Diamondbacks (I still don't know how that one came about... other than both being in the Western time zone & they share a Spring Training facility) and the Nationals play the Orioles.
  24. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IQiyoaS67kY/SoAcMj9GblI/AAAAAAAABhw/1-XajubYZ1Y/s400/household_brooms_1.jpg There's a whole bunch to choose from, 'Crew. Just sweep!
  25. I think it rotates by division every season. So, 2008 we got the east, 2009 the Central, 2010 the West. Now, as for which of the 3 teams we play, I'm not sure how that is decided. I'm surprised Milwaukee gets the Red Sox and the Yankees and the Rays, though. Really sucks to play 9 games vs the best 3 teams in baseball, when our division rivals will play the Orioles and the Jays.
