  1. I got AtBat - the audio-only version for the past 6 years. But never got MLB.tv until this season.
  2. The data is there: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/positional/ DH's get paid more. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/positional/designated-hitter/
  3. I disagree. Players are 100% replaceable, but how many people can afford to own a team? If a player opts to not play baseball because their salaries are not what they think they are worth, there will be 1000 guys willing to play for that embarrassing salary. And there are 2200 billionaires worldwide who would all happily buy into a baseball team. What's your point? The owners are not some all knowing perfect beings who "allow" baseball to exist and graciously donate some of their wealth to the players. They are the super-rich who run teams and try to maximize the money they pocket (with the lone exception in MLB of Mike Ilitch).
  4. What people need most, in times like this is things taken off their plate. They will have family members, lawyers, funeral home, creditors, etc to deal with which will only burden their brain and time even more. While your company bereavement policy may give them a few days, doing a small thing like ordering from their favorite spot for lunch (and letting them know a day ahead of time) or other similar things - any small thing you can take off their plate - will help.
  5. Tell me more! What have you been doing? I've been very interested in that for a long time. On a similar note, I'm now convinced that the best way to prepare a steak is the reverse sear. Bake on a rack at 275 until it reaches the desired temp (I believe medium rare is 130). Then let it sit for 10 to 15 min while getting a pan warmed up pretty hot. Throw some butter in it and sear the steaks for about a minute on each side. You get a great taste and a steak that is the same doneness the whole way through. Glorious. So similar ideas as the Sous Vide. I want to do this same thing with my green egg this summer, indirect heat then take the plate out and sear it. Should be even better. I've done a few smaller things, haven't done steaks yet, but done a lot of pork and chicken and it is so easy and so reliable. Sous Vide Everything on youtube is a place I've gone down the rabbit hole of. I did an entire pork shoulder (and finished in the oven) for Thanksgiving and it was incredible. I recently tried their recipe and it was awesome.
  6. You do realize people say that because these days it's actually one of the only ways you can get paid your worth as a worker? Changing jobs is quite often the only way to get a significant increase in salary when you learn new skills. With big business killing unions over the past 40 years and with salaries becoming more and more stagnant it has become more and more difficult for the worker to have any impact in what they make. So when we're looking at dysfunction in the difference in salaries between owners and players - yes, the greedy owners should be called out. Heck, even here, with the Brewers, people were acting as though spending as much as they did 8 years ago is "capping them out" despite a new national TV deal, better revenue sharing and higher ticket prices.
  7. I've become addicted to Sous Vide cooking. Next step: More meal prep.
  8. In the past 30 years (since 88-89) they've won more than 44 games 5 times -- Not including exactly 44 twice. In their 20 years before that as a franchise, they averaged 49 wins a season, including their 27 win inaugural season.
  9. Dunno why everyone says there is no room for Thames. He could very well start most games vs rhp in either LF or at 1b. With about 3/5 starters being right handed, that gives Thames 3 or so starts a week. For the 30-40 games Braun will miss, I'd rather see Thames than Perez.
  10. I really hope Albers comes back healthy. He clearly was never right after he got hurt in June. His first 28IP last year he was 1.93 ERA, .653 OPS against and a 1.03 WHIP. Then he got hurt and his last 6.1 IP was a 31.26 ERA, 1.717 OPS against and a 4.59 WHIP. I mean.... wow.
  11. Was at the 'Nova game. Big win. It's not often you see a team down 1 not even get a shot off when they have the ball with 12 seconds left. Really shocked me how quiet the place was during a really close game. Comparing it to games I had gone to at the Kohl Center it was night and day.
  12. They would have to renounce Bledsoe or Middleton's cap holds, meaning they could not resign them. They wouldn't have any money beyond the tax payer MLE to pay for Lopez (about 5.6 M). To resign the player they didn't renounce, as well as Brogdon and Mirotic, they have unlimited $, assuming the owners are willing to pay the luxury tax.
  13. The voters, back then, overwhelmingly voted like this: Who won the pennant? Who is their best player? Done.
  14. One from the SI Vault: https://www.si.com/vault/1963/06/17/594250/the-moody-tiger-of-the-reds He also, rather famously, had a fight with Eddie Matthews in 1960. https://www.nytimes.com/1974/10/04/archives/a-fighting-leader-frank-robinson.html
  15. Have you watched guys who come up from the minors who have had this clock in place? They pitch noticeably quicker. It works. You don't pitch in 20 seconds it's a ball. Catcher calling time counts as a mound visit. Batter isn't in the box, the pitcher can pitch and it's called a strike. Here is a sample size of 1, that someone took the time to study: https://www.sbnation.com/a/mlb-2017-season-preview/game-length
  16. They don't have anything to trade. They don't have anything to trade. They don't have anything to trade. They cannot trade a first round pick until 2024. DDV can't shoot. DJ Wilson is playing 10 minutes per game, and while better, still isn't that good. Thon is actually 26 years old (and the entire league knows this) and can't catch a basketball. 4 of their 5 starters are on expiring contracts. They aren't getting AD or Kemba. 4 years of complete mismanagement of the team has come back to bite them. They've got the best record in the NBA and I'm enjoying the ride... but man am I scared for this off season. SMH...this old refrain again. They have Brogdon to trade. They have Brogdon to trade. They have Brogdon to trade. They also have a large expiring contract to trade. Certainly not suggesting either are enough for AD, but c'mon. Also, everyone knows he's 26? Is this like everyone knows Pujols is 4 years older based on anecdotal evidence and reddit forums? Literally based on the fact that he graduated high school in Australia before moving to Canada and re enrolling in a "basketball academy", where his agent said he was 14. Brogdon is an RFA, he's about to get paid more than he's worth this off season.... As there is more cap room than good players out there. The same way there was the year the Bucks signed Delly & Mirza.
  17. They don't have anything to trade. They don't have anything to trade. They don't have anything to trade. They cannot trade a first round pick until 2024. DDV can't shoot. 18. Why? Is it Edgars fault the Mariners kept him in the minors until he was 27? He had a .900 OPS in AAA for his age 24 and 25 seasons. Oh yeah, not to mention he OBP'd .400 for 11 years and had a career 14.8 BB%. Compare that to Tony Gwynn's 7.7% career, that's an extra 800 AB's he didn't get. Or, 1.5 seasons just from WALKING.
  19. They have at least 4 guys on the bench who can do that (Hill, Ersan, Brown, Snell). The problem (?) is they all play team ball and don't chuck, so no one comes in and shoots the ball 8 times in 4 minutes.
  20. They could do that trade on Feb 7th (the trade deadline day). Smith (and Hill) can be combined with other players then.
  21. I just moved into a new apartment - I won't even bother to explain how the weather over the past two weeks effected that effort. I have a garage. There is a garage door opener in the garage. There seems to be no power to the garage and the door opener is not connected to the garage door. I've never seen this before. I didn't think to check this before I rented. I just saw the opener and assumed.
  22. Brewers: 137 Cardinals: 86 Pirates: 79 Reds: 76 Cubs: 3
  23. You say that as though it's a fact, but in reality, over the past 3 seasons, Braun has struggled with outside pitches not inside ones, as well as balls down in the zone. https://www.fangraphs.com/zonegrid.aspx?playerid=3410&position=OF&ss=2016-04-04&se=2018-10-01&type=5&hand=all&count=all&blur=1&grid=10&view=bat&pitch=&season=all&data=
  24. Sorry, I had to correct this, but Williams absolutely did play against minorities. He didn't really play against a fully integrated league like today, but he played until 1960 and Larry Doby debuted in the AL in 1947.
