  1. I guess I don't get too riled up about strikeouts. Is a player better if he gets conservative with 2 strikes and grounds out instead? Not if there is someone on first. So let's take an example I have seen our players do all year. Chris Carter doing what feels like on a weekly basis: Chris Carter walks up to the plate with a man on third just one out....annnnnnnnd strikeout. Whoops wish he could have grounded out or hit a fly ball to score a run. Instead scoreless inning in the end. I know people in the game threads hate when we try to play small ball getting a guy over to third with one out. They say it never works for us this year. Reason being is because this team strikes out so much no one ever actually puts the ball in play. An out is not just an out. Base runners are not just base runners. Such comments make me want to cringe. They are all not created equal. Chris Carter comes up with no one on base and just one out.....annnnnnnnd hits a home run. Whoops wish he could have grouned out or hit a fly ball to make an out. Instead, we scored that inning. These guys are not baseball playing robots who can be reprogrammed and change their swing, stance and ability level depending on the given game situation. The pitchers are just too good.
  2. To be fair, his OPS after last night is his highest since May 1st (and it was .705 just two weeks ago)
  3. At Toronto in April and at Tampa in August? C'mon guys, you're messing with my vacation plans!
  4. I, for one, can't wait for the memoirs. "WOAHH SOLLVD: The Secret Story of a Secret Agent"
  5. It was his first vs St Louis since his suspension. Man, that just seems crazy to me. ~180 PA's too. Yeah, a bit crazy. He's been downright awful vs St Louis the last 3 seasons.
  6. That might be my all time favorite completely throw away game in Brewers history. Uke's call was amazing.
  7. He has a .394 babip this season. He leads baseball in BABIP this year. His career number is .356. If you drop his babip down to that, by simply taking away 13 singles, his OBP goes from .377 down to .353. Still good, but suddenly that .840 OPS is a .780 OPS (or less) I think extending him this off season is premature, let's see if he can have another solid season.
  8. I absolutely love watching him throw the ball. Every single throw is chest high, dead center.
  9. Quoting myself. Put together the goPro footage I took. The trip was amazing, next time I plan to shoot more video - now that I know how well it came out. If you're considering it, young or old, and you like mountains and like to hike. I highly recommend Glacier. My pops did just fine, and he's a 68 year old smoker. He got into great shape for the trip, but he managed everything and had a few 6+ mile days. I teach geography and may use your videos to show the kids a different perspective of Glacier National Park. Thanks for sharing those! Use them all you want! Awesome!
  10. Real Cubs fans are amazing. Fair weather cubs fans are awful. Went to buy a Broxton shirsey after the game. They had none.
  11. Great job letting Gennett hit against a lefty with righties on the bench

  13. Company outing to the game tonight. Of course Garza is pitching. Of course it's going to rain, derailing our tailgating plans as well. Curse you, Cubs. Curse you.
  14. You were looking forward to that. It sounds like the confines were not friendly to "actual home team" fans today. Someone on Twitter reported beer vendors selling Old Style. I get that the Brewers can't stop cub fans from buying tickets en (overwhelming) masse, but I don't see the value of that degree of extra catering to them. It makes me less interested in going - and to drive me to that point is pretty significant. Hawing, they had a (recently retired) Bears player throw out the first pitch against this Cubs earlier this year. The catering to Cubs fans is becoming a bit ridiculous. I sold all my tickets to Cubs games this year. I have no desire to go to those games and deal with those fans.
  15. I'd argue the correlation between power and BB is the fact that guys who identify strikes better will hit the strikes harder as a result. Juan Pierre is a pretty good counter-argument to that statement. He did a pretty good job of identifying strikes - one of the lowest K rates in the last 40 years - and also had one of the lowest HR rates. Ichiro Suzuki does a pretty good job of identifying strikes too. Ichiro has a 34.2 % career O-swing %. That would put him in the top 30% of guys this season. He swings at pitches outside the zone a lot. He almost never swings and misses, however. Pierre had a much lower 28.5% O-swing %, but like Ichiro almost never swung and missed. Swinging weakly and making tons of contact no matter where the pitch is, is not what I was talking about.
  16. As an FYI, they come in smediums and XL's only at the fan giveaways
  17. I'd argue the correlation between power and BB is the fact that guys who identify strikes better will hit the strikes harder as a result. Chris Carter can't identify anything well and he does fine. He's actually 135th out of 154 qualified hitters in O swing %. He hardly ever swings at pitches outside of the zone. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=15&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=4,d&page=3_50 Where Carter fails is his ability to make contact at all. He's 151st out of the same 154 in Z-Contact percentage. He swings and misses on strikes more than just about anyone.

  19. Minutely worse now (lower OBP, higher SLG, overall -.003, sitting at .629)... ... but B-R.com has him as a 0.9 WAR player on the season and Fangraphs has him as a 1.3 WAR player. I know that he is an above-average defender, but is replacement-level that bad this year? He's simply an amazing RF, worth nearly 2 wins on defense alone (which has been pretty consistent over the course of his career). That's mostly counteracted by his bat this season, but not quite. He's been basically a league average player this year, all things considered.
  20. People who drive 5 to 10 MPH under the speed limit until there is a mile-long stretch of two lanes for passing -- basically when they add that 3rd lane on a 2-lane highway. Then they proceed to speed up to 70, making it very difficult to pass them.
