  1. If the coaches are making 10 million per year, the players should be making millions per year as well. If it leads to competitive imbalance, that can be fixed in other ways.
  2. Wait, some people think Michigan shouldn’t be the 1-seed?
  3. If you're into musicals, Tick Tick Boom is really good. An oscar nomination-worthy performance from Andrew Garfield. It's on Netflix.
  4. The current situation couldn't be better for the Brewers. The higher the price of the top free agents, the better. We weren't going to get those guys anyway, but it will limit the ability of mid-market teams to outbid us on the low-to-mid tier guys that we will be interested in shopping for. Meanwhile, the Mets are making life miserable for the big market teams and demonstrating what a joke the "budget limitations" complaints are. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the CBA, but we are doing very well under the current rules and there is almost no chance of help coming for small markets. We're best off if the service time and FA rules are left the way they are right now.
  5. It helps that they don't have to pay the players. So the system makes it that anyone who does recruiting is incredibly valuable. I'm indifferent about the big schools. They can afford it. The athletics departments operate mostly outside of the rest of the university. The small schools, that's another story. Until recently I worked as a researcher at a small school with a D-1 football program. The athletics department is massively in debt (due to football mostly) and the money is quietly being siphoned from the academic side of the university to keep athletics afloat, despite there being no hope of the football program ever being nationally competitive. It's sad. There's no doubt that football players will eventually get paid, and when that time comes I hope it will force larger changes. Most D-1 football programs are struggling to pay the bills. They can't keep up. Many people think that football subsidizes other sports but it's usually the opposite. The small schools won't be able to afford to pay the players. It's no different than MLB's economic inequity -- either there needs to be more revenue sharing or the top 30 or so programs need to go form their own separate league. Some people have suggested a promotion/relegation system between the top football division and a middle one. That would be great for the fans.
  6. The Yankees and Dodgers look frugal compared with this level of spending. Cohen is worth $14.6 billion. There's no salary cap. He can buy every free agent if he wants to.
  7. The Oklahoma fans on my Twitter feed are freaking out. With the head coach being king in college football, plus the new transfer rules, it's pretty much over for Oklahoma. Not to say they won't find a good coach and continue to be a decent football program, but I can't imagine we'll be seeing them in the CFP anytime soon. I agree with madbad, much of this likely has to do with expectations. And USC is only a downgrade in an SEC-centric view of the world. I do also wonder if the new player endorsement rules are part of this. Lots more money to be made as a player in LA compared with Norman.
  8. More Pac-12 teams have made the playoff than SEC teams not named Georgia or Alabama. If the playoff stays at 4 teams, I guess we'll be seeing 4-seed USC getting smoked instead of 4-seed Oklahoma.
  9. I like that they are trying to win, or at least trying not to lose 100 games again. It’s good for baseball. It’s also good for the Brewers since it takes some FAs away from teams that might actually be a threat to us. What I like about the Mets is that Cohen doesn’t care about losing money. It has a better chance of working, at least for a few years, due to the sheer volume of talent being acquired. The reality is that most of this is probably happening to gain leverage in CBA negotiations.
  10. 4/53 Best of luck to Avi.
  11. That’s a lot of money for age 31-38 of a guy with only 2 exceptional seasons on his resume. Especially for a non-contender like the Rangers.
  12. Minnesota looks like the better team. Or at least the more motivated one.
  13. We’ll see how Michigan looks today but my hunch is that there isn’t much, if any, of a gap between Michigan/Michigan State/Penn State and Wisconsin/Iowa/Purdue.
  14. It’s nice to be in the same division with these two franchises.
  15. Why did we play the Magic 2 times in a row? That was cruel (for them).
  16. I haven’t looked it up, but I assume Wisconsin is the worst team in the Big Ten since it was founded? Maybe Michigan State has been slightly worse?
  17. I would go as far as predicting it. Assuming Nebraska isn’t demoralized by always losing close ones. As for the B10 title game…if they couldn’t beat OSU in 2019 with a closer talent gap and that big halftime lead, I don’t know how they could possibly do it this year.
  18. Not a good drive for the receivers…
  19. Also should show why this year's Bama team has no business being in front of OSU or Oregon if those two programs with much better schedules don't lose another game....but thats not going to happen We’ll see. This is the kind of result that gets the committee’s attention. Plus they can pad their resume again next week, although Michigan will probably put up more of a fight. A tough road game is the only way OSU ever loses a conference game.
  20. This should be another easy one.
  21. Results like this show why the playoff is the same rotation of teams every year.
  22. The purpose is to make money right? How do I make money if the exchanges are taking high transaction fees? That's going to discourage me from making trades. Or is the idea that it's fine because we're not talking about 10% gains here, we're going for 100% or 1000%? What's clear to me is that these exchanges are making absurd amounts of money right now by siphoning off transaction fees. Sites I've never heard of are buying naming rights to arenas? That's just wild. The people getting rich off this seem to be the ones that are controlling the marketplace, and it's so unregulated that they can basically do whatever they want. The Michael Lewis book about this era is going to be something. Thanks for those links -- GAME05. There's a ton to digest. I don't even know where to start. Honestly it seems like it would be a better use of my energy to just create my own altcoin, that seems like a better use of my energy. Get ready for BF.net coin or something...
  23. Buy an ETF. There's several Bitcoin or blockchain ETFs (which are mostly composed of companies that hold a lot of Bitcoin/crypto) that move with the price of the big cryptos. That's a good idea, thank you.
  24. Ok, so I have FOMO and I want to buy this dip and make some money on crypto. First question -- crypto is decentralized so how do I buy crypto without having to go through one of these exchanges like Coinbase which is trying to charge me absurd transaction fees. I got myself a wallet and tried to put crypto in it, but that isn't possible because of the cost of ethereum. I don't want to pay more than 0.25% in transaction fees. How do I do this? I know the financial system is rigged, but crypto seems really, really rigged.
  25. Burnes would have been lucky to get a single vote if voters evaluated candidates the way they did 20-30 years ago. Urias would have won in a landslide with Wainwright, Buehler, and Scherzer all receiving healthy vote totals. A few people might have thrown Burnes a 4th or 5th place vote for winning the ERA title. Also -- that is an awesome shirt hawing
