  1. Save your breath. I’ve been banging this drum for awhile now. You keep your best strikeout pitcher to strand the runner. This isn’t rocket science. I disagree. This isn't an extra inning game right now. The worst case scenario is losing the game in 9 innings with Hader never coming into the game.
  2. Hader gets 3 outs and they must be in the 9th or the sky will fall, so sayeth the 2021 version of Craig Counsell. Start thinking that there is more to the story.... is he not willing to pitch more than one inning? No contract rumblings this year, yet here we are with one inning Hader. Counsell manages for 162 games. He's not willing to risk Hader's effectiveness tomorrow, or later in the week, or later in the season in exchange for the uncertain probability of winning one game. I think the numbers back him up.
  3. I don't read much into pythW-L because it gets skewed by blowout games. Even last year's team offensive statistics got skewed by that Tigers game. It's a miracle that they win as many baseball games as they do.
  4. Hader has never seemed like much of a firefighter. I see why they prefer to bring him in with the bases empty. With that in mind (and knowing what the other bullpen options are), I'd rather have Williams work himself out of the jam.
  5. Yep...this isn't even a top-10 pitching staff. Another year where you look at the stats vs. the W-L record and wonder how Counsell manages to pull it off.
  6. Defense still matters in the playoffs. We should know, the Bucks have been eliminated several times by teams playing good (and smart) defense against them. And the Bucks' defense is the reason this series is 2-0 and not 1-1. Bucks/Nets comes down to how the stars perform on both ends. Durant/Kyrie/Irving vs. Giannis/Middleton/Jrue. Maybe a game or two is decided by a role player but in a series that will surely go 6-7 games it's going to be the stars in the 4th quarter getting it done.
  7. The good news is that when Keston does make contact he hits it hard. So in theory he should be able to OPS .700 even if he's batting .190. But the reality is that he isn't even close to those thresholds and we're giving away wins while we wait for him to figure it out. So how long until you cut the cord? As for the DH...we have pitchers who could hit better at DH than Keston is right now. That's the reality after 100 PA this year.
  8. He doesn't really have any skills as a baseball player other than his bat speed and his weird timing thing seems to negate that. If we were in last place I would just play him every day and see if he can figure it out. As it is, our offense is so bad that we may as well do that anyway, but he brings so little else to the table that he makes Vogelbach look like Tony Gwynn. When you have no baseball talent other than hitting you need to OPS at .800 or better to be truly valuable. Can he do that??? If I were Stearns I'd be calling Miami every day until they trade us Aguilar for Hiura.
  9. While I certainly don’t disagree, I’m not sure baseball on the whole is a very good product right now. It’s sort of amazing that we’re going to go through this dead ball situation coming off a year of pandemic-ball, and then we’ll get to follow contentious labor negotiations next offseason that will include the players being locked out in December and probably worse come the spring. If you wanted to write a textbook on how to kill a sport I would recommend asking Rob Manfred to pen the foreword. This is excellent. Everything about state of my favorite sport is terrible right now. While the economics of big market vs small have always been terrible, the product on the field is simply not enjoyable anymore. The sport has become a dumbed down version of what it used to be (e.g. sports version of a strategic chess match). It is simply terrible these days. Agree with all of this. And the kicker is that the Brewers don't even have elite pitching. It just feels like we do but the reality is that almost every team has good pitching. Our FIP is league average and we're not even in the top 10 in ERA. It's going to be interesting to watch the next couple years unfold. If there's one positive from the current situation it's that the fans are going to be receptive to rule changes. I'm actually hoping that attendance and TV ratings plummet since it will help force change.
  10. It's kind of nice to watch a baseball game where at least one of the teams plays actual baseball.
  11. Vogelbach has to be one of the most frustrating hitters I've ever seen. The guy has talent, a good eye, and can crush the ball but someone needs to tell him about exit velocity. Quit trying to poke singles against the shift Dan. Swing the bat as hard as you can like everyone else!
  12. Given MLB's "punishment" of the Astros, I would hope the Brewers are trying every way they can to steal signs right now. It's the only way to hit the ball these days. Just look at the Red Sox this year -- #1 offense in MLB with Alex Cora back as manager. One wonders what "trick" he has come up with now...
  13. I don't care if his K rate is 50% if he can OPS anywhere near what he did at Nashville.
  14. Pitching changes are NOT the problem. It’s time between pitches. It’s been shown conclusively, there’s no debate. 5 minutes faster game for every 1 second you cut between pitches.
  15. Stole one, and probably will sweep from here.
  16. Agreed, but what about 2? What if the everyday player is strikeout prone and having an unproductive season. It's a complicated deal. Unproductive season? Adames has already put up 1.0 bWAR this year. That’s more value than the Brewers have gotten at SS in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 combined.
  17. And my oh my what a HUGE bat they acquired too. It’s a pretty nice upgrade.
  18. We all agree this team needs bats and practically it made the most sense to look for an upgrade at 3B/SS. The Grisham trade is a sunk cost. Gotta move on. We needed help on the left side of the infield and we got it. We sold high on relief pitching which is what many are constantly advocating that we do. And we made deal in May instead of July. I like it.
  19. MLB already had rules about where the defense can be positioned so it’s not an entirely new thing...
