  1. It's on Ohio State. They got what they wanted. But like I said, that's not going to happen. They will find another opponent. If the Big Ten and Pac-12 had stuck with their original plan, there could have been a slate of bowl games (which have all canceled now) and a Rose Bowl with fans in attendance in late spring. Kind of nuts how much revenue they threw away over desperation to play against all evidence and logic.
  2. I just saw this in my email inbox from Alaska Airlines... Meanwhile the news headline for California from the Guardian: Hmm...
  3. I'm sick of watching 3TO baseball and used to no baseball in the spring/summer, so if we have to sacrifice another season to get the needed changes, then so be it. It feels inevitable and I'd rather blow it up than suffer through the inevitable progression toward every offense in MLB looking like the 2020 Brewers.
  4. Kotsay was 1000x worse because we could have won that series. Counsell may as well have written himself into the lineup in LA.
  5. Hawaii: https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/05/business/hawaii-free-trip-remote-workers-trnd/index.html Ooof, I visited Hawaii once. Super cool, but definitely want nothing to do with living there! Haha I just threw Chicago to Kona in the search engine and it's bringing up ~$400 round trip for basically all of January and February. Millions of people are going to be vaccinated by February...just saying...
  6. I like to think that we helped accelerate Tom Allen's departure from the Big Ten. Or his appointment at Michigan. As for Bucky...hard to draw any conclusions about anything. Mertz looks like every other Wisconsin QB for 19 of the past 20 years, which is fine enough, but he has 3 years to get better.
  7. Nobody besides healthcare workers actually wants people to lockdown. It's all lip service. Whole industries are barely scraping by and are desperate for any business they can get. The marketing emails from all of the travel companies have been begging me to book a winter getaway. The safety protocols are emphasized. There are no domestic travel restrictions other than soft advisories and guidelines. And everything is absurdly cheap. Did my wife and I snap and book a vacation? Yep. Do we feel bad about it? Sort of...but not really.
  8. This is incredibly boring, I'm not going to bother with the 2nd half.
  9. This is almost as painful as watching the 2020 Brewers try to hit the ball.
  10. The reverse Harry Carey! The Cubs are really intent on a return to losing, huh? Edit: sounds like issues with Sinclair is the more likely reason
  11. I'd like to see some names of coaches who would be a realistic upgrade over Wojo. As a whole the program is in pretty good shape right now, recruiting is solid. Yes, Wojo is not a very good Xs and Os coach, but neither was Crean. I think it looks especially bad right now because (1) Buzz was the opposite and (2) Wisconsin is really good right now. Even if they get crushed by Wisconsin on Friday, which they probably will, it doesn't change the fact that Marquette has a fairly high ceiling this year.
  12. Wi-fi connected security cameras are great. I have 3 Nest cams. I have the subscription which keeps a full 30-day archive of all the cameras, you need unlimited gigabit Internet in order to do that. I put them in visible, prominent locations. I live in a location where property theft is fairly common so it is nice to be able to keep an eye on things, but I think they mostly serve as a deterrent. I never understood the purpose of a doorbell cam. You can't see anything from a doorbell, it isn't high enough and landscaping is in the way. One example of the usefulness...in bed late at night, hear a weird noise outside. Instead of getting up I just grab my phone and bring up the cams. Nothing looks unusual. Back to sleep.
  13. Marquette looks completely lost against OSU's zone defense. 22 turnovers and a whole lot of missed 3-pointers.
  14. I assume that number is global? There's no way the US is anywhere near 100 million. And those numbers are all region specific. There are plenty of big cities in the US that have seen very little community spread.
  15. Throwaway emails and social media accounts are the way to go. Keep all the junk separate from your primary accounts. Give fake information if companies ask for stuff that they don't need. I have a "smart" microwave which had to be set up with a microwave app. So dumb. The only useful feature is that the clock automatically resets itself after a power outage / daylight savings time. But if I really wanted to I could say "Alexa, microwave on high for 30 seconds." It's pretty obvious that the tech product teams almost universally prioritize information gathering and tracking over developing features that would actually be useful to the consumer. Microwaves could have thermal sensing and scales to figure out when something is cooked, but it will never get developed because they couldn't use those features to collect data on what people are cooking.
  16. The timing is interesting but does it really matter? We already knew that it would be impossible to contain an novel airborne virus like COVID-19.
  17. 1/3 seems high vs. some of the other estimates I've seen, which suggested closer to 1/5. Are there updated estimates/assumptions out there to suggest that higher number? There is a ton of geographic variability. Many cities are probably closer to 1 in 10 or 1 in 20, and that where most of the population is. Spots that locked down early like the big cities on the west coast have never really had that many cases, even when you account for the early unconfirmed ones in March.
  18. I just think that venues are going to want to get close to 100% capacity before enough people are vaccinated to knock the COVID case counts close to zero (~75% of the population, late 2021 maybe?). The only way to do that is to keep unvaccinated people out or require negative test results. Otherwise we're talking 10,000 people at most being allowed in the Brewers' indoor stadium in April/May. Most major airlines are already using apps like CommonPass for COVID test verification so it will be extremely easy for them or any other business like MLB or LiveNation to require vaccine and/or negative test verification through one of those third-party services. Yeah, 10-20% of the population will complain, but the other 80-90% will demand safety measures. I bet 50% would get the vaccine tomorrow and another 40% will get it once they see that nobody is getting really sick from it. The last 10% will never get vaccinated which is irritating but probably fine.
  19. I think that's a safe bet. Also a safe bet a lot of people freak out about that, not wanting anyone infringing on their privacy. I'm curious if this will extend to employers or restaurants, medical facilities, etc. I have a feeling this type of thing snowballs, and everyone will require it, or at least a lot of states will. It will be interesting what government entities like schools decide to do in terms of vaccine requirements. I have no doubt that industries that depend on large gatherings (air travel, cruise, sports, concerts) will implement vaccine requirements (or proof of a negative test result).
  20. This was done solely to placate Ohio State. Yep. Which is the same reason that Ohio State will be named the Big Ten champion. I don't know which rules they are going to change to make that happen, but you can bet they will find a way.
  21. I'm operating under the assumption that proof of vaccination is going to be required for air travel, international travel, and possibly sporting events and concerts. So I'll be first in line when it is available. Also hoping to book some cheap flights on the 737-Max while people are still afraid of it.
  22. The Big Ten made such a smart decision to delay the season until spring...until they reversed it because a couple of people complained. Now they will have a joke of a championship game that nobody is going to watch.
  23. The deal is for 15 years...so no, probably won't change in 5 years. Unless American Family decides to do a corporate rebrand or gets acquired by a competitor. Happens all the time. CenturyLink Field just got changed to Lumen Field the other day.
  24. An economist would probably argue that most people are acting rationally given the incentive system put in place by the restrictions. It's a situation where you need both a coherent national/continental) plan and near-100% compliance. If you are just asking everyone to voluntarily impose very strict restrictions on themselves, it's not going to work. Yeah, the US has somewhat of an individualism complex, but I suspect that is a second-order effect relative to national policy, geography, and weather.
  25. Who does the broadcasting and production for the YouTube MLB games? It can’t be that hard. ESPN just fired a bunch of production staff so now would be the time for the Brewers to take over their own production. Still not seeing why they need a TV network though, why not produce the games and sell them to any provider willing to pay? I find it hard to believe that one of the local channels in Wisconsin wouldn’t buy that programming. Not sure how they did it in the past? (like in the 90s when MSC games were on channel 18???) Not saying it would be easy but the Brewers are the ones getting screwed by MLB’s broadcasting rules more than any other team. So if any team is going to be the one to try and blow it up...
