  1. I don't see what the benefit is to going with an RSN, especially Sinclair. The revenue numbers are ugly, the demographics are ugly, and the potential audience continues to shrink. Plus Sinclair is going to rebrand FSWisconsin as a casino/gambling channel to compensate for it bleeding cash? Mark A should stay as far away from that mess as possible. From a business perspective it seems kind of nuts that money would be much of a factor at all in these TV deals. Audience is the only metric that should matter, which means no exclusive contracts. License the broadcast to as many providers as possible.
  2. Indiana has a .000000000000000000000000001% chance to beat OSU. It can happen, like Purdue in 2018, but that was a night game with a home crowd.
  3. It sure feels like the Bucks are on the precipice of getting completely screwed over.
  4. And eat $48 million? Ouch. I didn’t realize it was 2 additional years. Yikes.
  5. The Mets' luck has really turned around, huh? $24 million they no longer have to pay to a 38-year-old. For Cano, I'm guessing this dooms his chance to reach 3,000 hits. I wonder if the Mets will just cut the cord and release him.
  6. I agree, for actual bench contributors the Bucks can do better than a scrap heap of Euro guys and 2nd round rookies. Kaminsky makes a lot of sense but he's a better player than the role he would get with the Bucks. I think they will have no shortage of options willing to come on board. Markus does intrigue me because he appears to be good at basketball (albeit sloppy) with some upside but he should be in the G league in 2021, not filling a spot deep on the bench.
  7. Will Gorman19 be welcome on BF.net in 2021? Anyway, locking this topic, I just hope it’s trolling.
  8. It's much harder to find 10 than it was a couple of years ago, but I managed to do it. Four easy ones (I'm in the 'let them in' camp except for Sosa) Bonds Clemens Schilling Rolen Next tier (probably should get in but fine if they don't): A. Jones Manny Ramirez Helton Third tier (probably shouldn't get in but would like to keep on the ballot): Buehrle Tim Hudson Bobby Abreu
  9. That's what worries me, along with the hunting opener next weekend. I've seen several posts and memes going around Facebook in the last few days indicating ideas like "you don't know how much time you have left with your loved ones, so don't sacrifice your holidays with them". It makes me want to slap those people upside the head. I mean, I get that family time and tradition is important, but if there was one time where it's prudent to break with tradition, this is the year to do it. In your opinion it's prudent. Politicians say it's prudent- for everyone else but them. Slap me in the face, because it's not prudent for my family. I haven't see my siblings all year. More importantly, my parent haven't seen my siblings all year. Two of them have a few days off around Thanksgiving, and they are traveling back to WI. We are having everyone over at our house. Oh no!!! You tell my parents who are 89 and 88 that they need to wait two years for the virus to pass to see their children and grandchildren. Yes, there's a chance one of us pass on the virus to them. Odds of that happening AND dying from it are way less than one of them dying from lots of other causes at their age over a two year period. They've seen over 24 people now test positive in their senior living community, between staff and residents. Not one has been hospitalized. So they want to see everyone, not knowing when they'll get that opportunity again. Weighing the risk, this is an easy call to make. We won't even sing, just to be sure. This type of comment is pretty common in my field, generally it is what [predominately] older residents say to officials when they refuse to comply with mandatory evacuations prior to hurricanes. "I've been though blah blah storm in the past and was just fine etc etc." I feel bad for the first responders who have to fish out their drowned bodies after the fact.
  10. I'm not positive a ND team that loses to Clemson gets in. Might depend on the pac 10 being bad and Oklahoma St losing another game. Even then I wouldn't be shocked at a second sec team, even 2 loss (loses to bama) Florida getting in ahead of ND. ESPN's playoff predictor seems to think Wisconsin has the best chance to emerge from these scenarios. I assume the model is thinking one-loss Wisconsin (to OSU) is the most likely scenario and it is probably giving Alabama an ~80% chance to win the SEC championship game. It helps that Florida lost a game. Undefeated Oregon would also be a problem. I don't know what to think about BYU. Team -- make playoff -- win championship Alabama (6-0) -- 88.8% -- 37.7% Ohio State (3-0) -- 61.4% -- 21.2% Wisconsin (2-0) -- 54.9% -- 17.5% Notre Dame (8-0) -- 48.7% -- 5.4% Clemson (7-1) -- 42.8% -- 9.6% Oregon (2-0) --29.8% -- 2.7% BYU (8-0) 25.1% -- 1.5% Florida (5-1) --17.9% -- 2.7% Cincinnati (7-0) 12.0% 0.7%
  11. Running the table and a non-embarrassing loss to OSU should be enough to get Wisconsin in the playoff. I would love to get a shot at Notre Dame this year after all.
  12. The rest of this game is just a formality. No need to empty any more of the playbook on Toledo State or whoever this is.
  13. Michigan is trash but this is quite enjoyable.
  14. It's hard to make sense of the Big Ten this year. Ohio State must be laughing at all the mediocrity. We'll see if Wisconsin joins them after today.
  15. The funniest part about this hire is that Aubrey Huff is now the #1 trend on Twitter and he hasn't even said anything today.
  16. Given her resume, if she was a man she would have been made a GM at least 10 years ago and her first GM job would have been with a much higher profile franchise than the Marlins. But still, kudos to the Marlins for this move.
  17. In my experience adjunct instructors are some of the most mistreated employees in any field that I know of. I really appreciate that you're trying to make things better, wallus, and it's unfortunate that the students are not engaged. I knew some adjuncts who were responsible for many hundreds of students because they would split time between multiple employers, maxing out the number of classes they were allowed to teach at each. Anyway, at the elementary school level what I've been hearing anecdotally is that approximately a third of online students are completely failing this year and the school's response has been to get rid of grades. We're going to be feeling the repercussions of this for the rest of our lives.
  18. One of the Twitter replies to Hardicourt is that Burnes' total must be the most points a Brewers pitcher has received in 25 years. That seemed crazy to me, so I looked up some years that I figured we would have contending pitchers. 2004: Sheets 1 pt (with a 2.70 ERA/237 IP) 2008: Sabathia 9 pts 2011: Yo 5 pts 2012: Nothing 2018: Hader 4 pts 2019: Corbin 10 pts, Williams 3 I don't know why that is so shocking to me. I feel like we had a number of top of the rotation starters over the years garnered a lot of national attention, but I guess not. 2004 Sheets was such a crime, although the field was crowded that year. At least only one voter was dumb enough to pick 20-game winner Roy Oswalt. It looks like Randy Johnson got badly robbed because the D-backs lost 111 games. If he hadn't thrown a perfect game that year he might have been down with Sheets below the relief pitchers.
  19. I'm most of the way through Schitt's Creek now. I didn't love it as much as some people but there are a couple episodes that are absolute perfection. Several of my friends are constantly quoting Letterkenny so while I'm on Canadian shows that may be the next one...
  20. I never knew that! I grew up in Greenfield which has the most absurd footprint of any city I have ever seen--and is responsible for the weird border of the city of Milwaukee on the SW side.
  21. I'm craving baseball and want to go to in-person games, but it really depends on the rules, enforcement of the rules, and how many fans they let in. There were a lot of pictures from the World Series suggesting that 10,000 was too many. The knowledge that they are desperate to make money makes me suspicious that they can pull it off. I also expect higher ticket prices but I expect that money to be invested in safety measures.
  22. Where can I buy a "I'm a hall of famer baseball person" t-shirt?
  23. Nearly unheard of to see a college basketball team start 5 seniors these days. Should be fun to watch.
  24. And Manfred was shocked when he was loudly booed in Texas. LOL.
  25. Like most people raised in Wisconsin I have plenty of Midwestern frugalness in me, but I'm definitely not the kind of person who tries to extract value out of things I want to get rid of. If I'm in a purge mood it's going straight to the garbage or goodwill. Funny you mention Pokemon cards because just last week my mother just asked me if I wanted a box of Magic the Gathering cards that have been gathering dust for a couple of decades. I told her to throw them out. I'm pretty sure they were worthless though, I had near zero interest in that game and had little more than a starter pack.
