  1. I think the ballpark experience for the fans is going to be enhanced by the Autozone. The big scoreboards in MLB parks will likely turn into a gameday-like interface with live pitch f/x data. The ump will signal the ball/strike call and then fans will look to the scoreboard for the "replay". Even casual baseball fans will gain a quick appreciation for pitch types and locations. Nuances that are sometimes hard to appreciate in person (like fouling off a tough pitch) will become obvious to everyone.
  2. I realized I OK boomered the wrong comment. LOL. Apologies to OldSchoolSnapper.
  3. While getting off the bus I heard the phrase "See you on tik tok!" the other day. So that's how Gen Zers say goodbye to each other I guess.
  4. I can't really tell the difference unless I look closely and really think about it. Then I go back and look at the old one and it looks weird with the baseball not centered.
  5. On the west coast we already passed state bills to go to permanent DST. Just waiting on California and then they will go to Congress...so maybe it will happen eventually if we’re lucky. It’s only day 3 of 4:45 sunsets and I’m already sick of it.
  6. I think it's kind of exciting that management has thrown us a bit of a curveball. Trying to repeat the 2019 approach in 2020 (similar roster with a couple of short-term contracts) was unlikely to work out. This move seems to suggest a more significant retooling of the roster than we expected. Hard to figure out the exact intentions until we see who they bring in.
  7. That is a shock. I wonder what they are planning to do with the extra cash...or are they planning on 2020 being a rebuilding year?
  8. That might be the best bet. Get a regular starter in Iglesias who is by no means a world beater, but can provide some consistency. Keep Orlando as a sub that can come in and provide late game defense (with Iglesias shifting to 2B for Hiura), and play when you can capitalize off Arcia's hot streaks. I'm just not comfortable giving up on Orlando completely. I could see it. It would not get the Brewers to league average SS production but at least it would (most likely) get them out of last place. The Brewers do not have the luxury of acting like a "contending team" in this situation...a "contending team" might trade minor leaguers for a better SS but we do not have much in the system to trade. It might be different if the FA market was better, but .800+ OPS shortstops with plus defense are a rare commodity. That's why Arcia will probably be the opening day SS in 2020. And there is a decent chance he will be there in 2021 and 2022 as well.
  9. Really? That's a pretty big deal to me. I'd like to improve the areas of weakness on the club and shortstop has been the biggest weakness on the team for the better part of 4 years now. If he was 29 like Travis Shaw then I would definitely care that he sucked. I agree about wanting to improve SS, I just don't think the external options are more likely to succeed than just going with Arcia again and hoping he gets better. Which I will admit is a less-than-ideal solution. And having some cheap alternatives around is a good idea.
  10. Early Christmas...UGH. Fall is barely half over. Give me all the fall things! Thanksgiving is a FALL holiday. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year and Christmas is encroaching on it big time. All because of companies are trying to make more money while the quarter of the population that LOVES Christmas gladly eats it up. If Halloween wasn't so popular I'm sure Christmas would take over October as well.
  11. I'm glad I'm not the only one on the Arcia 2020 bandwagon. At this moment the guy is a textbook example of the kind of player the Brewers like to pursue in signings/trades...young, 3 years of team control, underachieving, etc. I do not care at all that he has sucked for 2 years in a row. He already has one year of not sucking under his belt and the odds a 25 year old with that much big league experience will eventually figure it out are better than 50/50. And given the potential replacements being thrown around it's clear that the odds of Arcia breaking out are far higher than any of these other guys coming in and doing a better job. Is Arcia a future star? No. But he would hardly be the first meh baseball player to put up a couple good years in his prime, and his prime comes at a very low price to the Brewers. The Brewers who are going to need a lot to go right to get back to the playoffs in 2020 and do not have the resources to do anything about shortstop. Arcia 2020!!!
  12. This is nothing like the NFL...the NFL randomly implements new rules with no testing. MLB carefully tests most new rules before implementing in the big leagues. The 20-second pitch clock has been under development for years. When pitch f/x was developed it was first used to give feedback to umpires to try and make them better. That was largely successful--ball/strike calling got better and the zone is more standard now than it ever was before. But some of those calls in the World Series from the 'best' umpires were simply unacceptable. The only lesson about the AFL testing is that it's not quite ready for showtime yet. The kinks will get worked out and when it comes to MLB everyone will already know what to expect. I still think in the long run the hitters will benefit more than the pitchers. Most MLB hitters have very, very good eyes at the plate and to have 100% confidence that the zone will not randomly expand will result in far less swings on pitches out of the zone. The likely reduction in strikeouts is exactly what MLB needs.
  13. Since he was on the Mariners I assume he isn't as bad as the numbers. If the price is right I would support taking a shot. More upside than Encarnacion.
  14. I can also get behind AJAY's comments. Well said.

    Deadspin

Management didn't know the audience, the writers did. Online writers are largely evaluated by page views and loyalty to their readers is more valuable than loyalty to any given company or site. The writers were never going to go along with management and it seems like they protected the site from the higher-up for some time. In the end both sides win--the writers leave as heroes and management can now hire whoever they want for Deadspin and maybe a different group of readers will sweep in and start reading it. But it will never truly be "Deadspin" again, hence the obituaries. I do see bit of a brewerfan analogy here..we do have our own set of values on this site and the steering committee/moderators believe in the mission and volunteer their time to uphold those values. If (hypothetically) somebody had the power to impose a different set of values, I'm sure a similar revolt would happen.
  16. Wisconsin is like the rest of the country now...2 inches of snow and we're not going anywhere!!! (but on a serious note...more kids get killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, so it's probably a good call)
  17. I also tend to think there is something behind the scenes that Cole is very unhappy about. I'm sure we will find out. That was a planned protest and it makes me wonder what he would have done if they won???

    Deadspin

Deadspin was highbrow? Did I have the correct URL? Deadspin was hilarious. And their BS detector was on point. So I guess it is only appropriate that a bunch of suits killed it off. That's how the Internet goes.
  19. Personally I would have made them beat Greinke.

    Deadspin

I'm sure there are others on here who are lamenting the loss of Deadspin today. So sad to see an amazing site be destroyed in such a stupid way. RIP. https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/deadspin-writers-quitting-g-o-media-controversy-01drf9syxbdp
  22. I do not want the Brewers to ever have a "timeless" look, we are not the Yankees and never will be. We do not have 20-some championships to remember. Each uniform theme in Brewers history is associated with a specific era. The 80s are the classic look, the 90s are forgettable (both the look and the players wearing the jerseys), the 2000s-2010s are the Miller Park/Ryan Braun era. Even with the leak I still think there is no way they bring back uniforms that resemble the 80s. Even if they do pinstripes/block lettering I still expect solid navy blue home alternatives with cursive. Fans like options and not everyone likes the 80s look. But most do like the ball/glove. The Brewers know this. So I would be shocked to see an 80s-heavy redesign except for the ball/glove.
  23. Nothing like a little controversy on an otherwise boring sports night!
  24. Wait is that a new Bernie Brewer? I thought that was just an old pic from a previous retro night.
