  1. Up 17 on the Knicks after less than 5 minutes. Next opponent please.

  3. That is a lot of money for a guy who can only be counted on for 4-5 innings max.

  5. This team is going to own the 26-man roster like no other!
  6. We have no idea if this move will turn out to be good or bad. But the key is that for $4.5 million we better get something out of Sogard, unlike the first time we gave him $2.4 million to do nothing. If Hernan Perez ends up contributing to the Cubs and Sogard flames out there will be some justified frustration around here.
  7. Can't wait for them to sign Felix Hernandez tomorrow.
  8. I think there is still some Melvin-era thinking going on here. They are playing for 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, etc. The Stearns era will never be defined by targeting certain years. It is unwise to do that anyway, as we can not control what anyone else in baseball is doing. Stearns could not control this year's crazy FA market and there was no he was ever going to risk being stuck with a bad contract in 2023-2024 to help the 2020 team. They have repeatedly proven they will spend money when the time is right, but they will be very reluctant to sacrifice future flexibility to do so. So I highly doubt they will ever sacrifice 2023 for 2021-2022. They were never going to pay $18 million to a 34-year-old Moustakas or Grandal in 2023. The Cain contract was a one-off, not a trend.
  9. To be fair, he only played 47 games last year. I most appreciate his nearly 5:1 career K/BB ratio. He'll fit right in on the Brewers.
  10. Briggs called it!
  11. "Introducing your 2018 Seattle Mariners...I mean 2020 Milwaukee Brewers!"
  12. It is the RB of MLB. Yes for aging power hitters who are mediocre defensively it sees like the standard progression is: original position -> 1B -> DH. And the final stage usually means they get sent to the AL.
  13. Just saw this today, going right at what I said: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/951515?adults=3&check_in=2019-12-29&check_out=2020-01-01&source_impression_id=p3_1576594535_7ME0u%2Fuo3gDt%2BhxS Going to the Rose Bowl???
  14. I would be curious to see how our 1B numbers ranked in the league over that time period. Some years we have gotten decent production from 1B while others years have been a disaster.
  15. There are very few recent precedents for a losing franchise turning things around by spending a ton of money. Almost all of them have been failures, including large markets like the Phillies and Mariners. I'm skeptical that the Reds have done enough to do much better than a .500 finish. That said, if there was ever a year for them to get a top-3 finish this is it. And maybe they will go shopping at the deadline if they get off to a good start.
  16. In the words of the Dude...that's just like, your opinion, man.
  17. How many games do we realistically think Cain will be able to start in 2020? Is anyone else besides Gamel really going to man CF when that happens? I guess Yelich can play CF in a pinch, but I doubt they want Braun or Garcia out there. I assume that's where Gamel fits in as the 5th OF. But I'm guessing they see Garcia as insurance for CF as well.

  19. One can only hope it doesn’t take a labor stoppage to get Manfred removed. For all the faults of Selig there was never any doubt that he was trying to do what was right for the game. With Manfred I sometimes question if he even likes baseball. But he certainly likes making money, there’s no doubt about that. The funny thing is that with politicians paying attention they have now lost all negotiating leverage and the underpaying of minor league players will likely receive further scrutiny. I don’t doubt that MiLB needs reforms but Manfred seems to completely incapable of doing anything without making a ton of people angry. Most MLB fans want reforms and rule changes but we don’t trust Manfred to do them properly or even tell us the truth about what they are doing.
  20. People outside of the Midwest do not always realize that "you guys" is gender neutral. So I find "y'all" useful for that reason.
  21. At some point you have to think they will get bored and lose 2 out of 5 or something like that.
  22. Will Moustakas be worth anything by the 4th year of that contract? If you are thinking about how to cover 2020 and 2021 then Seager could potentially be a significant cost savings for a comparable player.
  23. This would be a "win while Yelich is still around" type of acquisition and I would be open to it. I'm guessing the Mariners would rather eat some of the contract and keep their prospects. But we have money to spend. And his numbers will get a bump from escaping Seattle.
  24. That sounds incredibly complicated.
  25. I think I’m cool taking a pass on the 2020 season. We can shop next year when everyone else is out of money.
