  1. If they win at OSU they will be playoff favorites which would be unprecedented for this program. Some of the other contenders will drop games. Plus if it is close the committee politics favor the Big Ten getting a team in this year. And Wisconsin has much more respect nationally now than they did a few years ago so even a close loss is allowable. It will be interesting to see how Penn State does against Michigan this weekend. I think the gap between those two teams is closer than many think. We just need one of them to beat OSU. I agree with everyone that a rematch with OSU in the title game is the worst case scenario.
  2. I’m kind of glad the Cards won that game 5 now, this is the most enjoyable way they could have exited.
  3. TBS seems to have cut their MLB broadcasting budget. Just not a good production. This has to be the most pathetic the Cards have ever looked in the postseason.
  4. Noon kickoff for the UW-OSU game.
  5. It's going to really suck if this team pulls off the road win at OSU and then misses the playoff by losing the rematch.
  6. Or ... counterpoint ... the Cardinals suck. That post did not age well.
  7. That was a nice sendoff for Wainwright. Thanks Nats!
  8. Bring on OSU. (edit...forgot they have to play another warm-up game next week)
  9. Looking like I was wrong after last night...
  10. That's the path to victory for the Nats. And ultimately they beat both the Brewers and Dodgers by winning games in the late innings. But I think the Cardinals are smart and talented enough to get these games to the bullpen where they will have an edge.
  11. In the NL the Cardinals are the clear favorites. The Nationals will need near-perfection from their starters to have a chance. I think the Nats will take 2 games where the starting pitching wins it for them but that's it. Yankees-Astros should be more entertaining and could go either way. I see it as a tossup but will go with the Yankees--they are rested while Verlander and Greinke looked vulnerable in Tampa. Cardinals in 6 Yankees in 7
  12. FSU reached out and got official approval. The Braves have not. The Braves have ignored the issues with the chop rather than facing them. So it shouldn’t be a surprise when they get into the playoffs, play the chop song after every single pitch, and then get questions from the media about it which leads to controversy. These traditions were initially appropriated without permission. Doesn’t really matter if they are “racist” or not, what matters is that it was disrespectful and if you are going to continue using them you better be going above and beyond to reach out to a large number of tribal communities and get overwhelming approval. Or better yet recognize that it was stolen and just stop without having to be forced to do so after public outcry. Zero sympathy for the Braves.
  13. I feel like you need to be the favorite to have these kind of moments and the Brewers have been underdogs in all 4 of their recent playoff exits (except 2011 maybe? but it felt like we were underdogs). They had the Wild Card game in hand and badly botched it, so that has to be the winner.
  14. One corporate restaurant replacing another...still not going to be a destination on non-game days.
  15. If the Nats make the NLCS they are going to test whether the 2001 Diamondbacks model can be replicated. RE: the Twins. I'm not arguing that they are far less-talented than the Yankees, but if you watched the games you could see them clearly start pressing with RISP, missing very hittable pitches, plus the visible frustration on their faces. You don't want to be the underdog in the series AND feel the most pressure. Strongly disagree about the postseason not being interesting...the divisional round is really good this year. So many different strategies being employed to various degrees of success.
  16. They undoubtedly benefited from the SOS but that alone doesn’t explain a dominating sweep.
  17. After the win today the Nats might have the upper hand in the series with Strasburg slated for game 5. Lots of really entertaining baseball so far this postseason. Except the Twins...yikes. Has to be all mental at this point. Reminds me of the pre-206 Cubs.
  18. I thought Busch Stadium was bad but the Nats have about 5,000 empty seats tonight. Yikes.
  19. Wow, those #bestfansinbaseball can't even sell out a playoff game. Not even close actually. Sad.
  20. Yep, it was inevitable that the Nats would need their bullpen and the result is about as expected.
  21. Over on the Pelicans, under on the Blazers.
  22. Arcia and Villar have quite a bit in common. The Brewers gave up on Villar at age 27. Arcia just turned 25. Can the Brewers afford to wait for Arcia’s breakout season?
  23. I'll write the Astros and Dodgers in to advance at this point.
  24. I did not have any fun watching the WC game which made me realize I need to stop taking this stuff so seriously. Attending Felix Hernandez' final start last week was way more fun. Ultimately I just want to be entertained...there are ways to do that other than chasing a championship which is nearly impossible. Even the Dodgers can't win a championship and their fans are probably bored of the postseason at this point...I'm sure there will be plenty of empty seats at Dodger Stadium tomorrow night. Meanwhile there are about 10 perennially bad teams whose fanbases go insane when they make the playoffs once a decade. 54,000 at the A's game tonight...and the Rays will certainly have huge crowds for their playoff games. The fans want more postseason baseball!!! Eventually American professional sports leagues are going to get smart and realize that there is entertainment value in making the bad teams compete for stuff...if not promotion/relegation then at least put the bad teams in a tournament for the #1 draft pick.
