  1. If any one of them is struggling you pull the plug and go with the next. Counsell will be doing the same with his weapons, expect Suter/Hader to cover at least half of the game.
  2. Don't they get about $50K in swag, anyway? Yes, because "amateur athletics". I'm sure they would prefer cash...
  3. Just pay the players and give us the 8-game playoff that we deserve. Give each of them $50,000 to be in the playoff.
  4. Unfortunately the Cardinals are good.
  5. Perhaps the most entertaining baseball of the night was Jhoulys Chacin serving up gopher balls to the Rays. I can't believe that guy was the anchor of our rotation a year ago!!!
  6. Derrick Turnbow and Eric Gagne are the two players that remind me most of Ned Yost. And not in a good way. I was at a couple games where I think the crowd was about to forcibly remove those pitchers from the game. Was it entirely Yost's fault that management kept those guys on the roster? No. But for months they got put in the game in high leverage situations and repeatedly failed. In a pennant race!!! But I will give Yost credit. In that 2003-2005 era he got entertaining baseball out of some garbage rosters. Maybe we had low expectations but to this day I have no idea how that 2004 team was over .500 at the all-star break...a team whose best 2 hitters were Lyle Overbay and Keith Ginter.
  7. The Nats are facing an uphill battle for sure. I agree with long ball, their best chance against the Brewers is to rest their starters this weekend and go with 2-3 of them in the WC game, no bullpen at all. The Brewers will almost certainly counter with a Suter-Hader combo in the later innings. It's not certain that they will have the luxury to do much resting. If they drop too many games to the Phillies they will almost certainly have the Cubs and/or Mets within striking distance again, plus the Indians will likely have must-win games against the Nats this weekend. The scariest thing for the Brewers is that the WC game is just one game. Last year's NLCS game 7 is a good example of what can go wrong...a hot starting pitcher and a 3-run bomb...game over.
  8. They can eventually have a single "wild card" flag with the years listed...it can be off to the side of the championship flags ;-)
  9. Surprised at lack of interest in WC game. I was originally like 'no way' to the WC game but a guaranteed elimination game with a known evening start time is appealing. Promises to be a fun atmosphere...
  10. If they do get past the WC game it looks like the home games would be on weekdays both in the NLDS and NLCS. So likely afternoon games. Ugh.
  11. It’s hard to be out of state when the team is on a playoff run and I would prefer to be at all of the home games. Zero regrets on leaving but nothing beats playoff baseball. I’ve decided that I will always try to come back for the playoffs but it takes a calculated risk to get the right games. In 2011 I waited for the World Series which never happened...missed a ton of fun moments. Last year I made it back for NLCS games 6-7, that was clearly the right call despite the result. This year it’s tempting to go to the Wild Card game because it’s an elimination game but I’ve decided to wait...
  12. I want that graph framed on the wall.
  13. I really, really want this team to have a stab at the Dodgers.
  14. Flacco is having no problem picking apart this defense
  15. [sarcasm]Embarrassing...couldn't even go 11 straight quarters without giving up a TD.[/sarcasm]
  16. Oh no we gave up points!
  17. Meh, QB was already going down, no need to even be involved in that tackle. Edit--missed the prior play
  18. Mostly watching for the shutout at this point.
  19. I've never seen a WI running back who can bounce to the outside like Taylor can.
  20. Taylor back to add to his Heisman resume.
  21. Is this another nonconference tune-up game?
  22. The Mets are the only team that worries me for WC2. Playing well and a very easy schedule the rest of the way (especially if Atlanta has nothing to play for next weekend). I'm glad we have a cushion.
  23. Woah we just threw down the field on 4th down. Love this!
  24. Michigan probably needed some luck to win this game and instead they are getting the opposite.
