  1. Didn't Mark Twain once say - "The coldest winter I ever spent, was a summer in San Francisco" Was just in Oakland last week...it's chilly in the evenings in the summer. Perfect daytime weather though--sunny and upper-70s every day.
  2. It happened when Arcia struggled again this year and the grass started looking greener on the other side.
  3. I'm puzzled why people are so down on Arcia. He's younger than Dubon (by a month...).
  4. I'm really happy with the moves today--I think we will be glad to have all these bullpen pieces the rest of the way. Plus we avoided getting into any 10-team bidding wars (so far).
  5. Yep. I do think Aguilar will produce with TB but this seems like a really smart way to add an arm without giving up any prospects. Aguilar has been below replacement level with us this year.
  6. Exciting! We did a trade! Edit: RHP Jacob Faria to MIL
  7. Yeah that seems to be the cause of the stalemate. We'll see if anyone caves tomorrow. But the clock is ticking on the possibility of multiple moves for the Brewers.
  8. That would be an incredible buzzkill if true. If they don't get another good starter, they are toast the rest of this year. Yeah it just seems like there are twice as many buyers as sellers, everyone is looking for pitching, and almost everyone can offer better prospects than we can.
  9. I generally agree. It does seem like Wisconsin has more to gain here. I'm so thankful the neutral site thing is starting to fall out of favor...there's nothing better than a college town on the day of a big game. And yes--the idea is clearly to get College Gameday and be the game of the week. Alabama has taken some criticism for not playing road games in Big Ten country so I wonder if that factor is in play here as well. Alabama gets the benefit of the doubt from the polls/committee so a September loss in a tough road environment would not hurt their playoff chances at all. And I'm sure their fans will find a way to occupy at least a quarter of the seats at Camp Randall.
  10. I would rather have Lyles in the rotation than Leake. Look at Leake's home/away splits. He is benefiting from pitcher-friendly conditions in Seattle.
  11. College football attendance is currently at a 22-year low. The number of empty seats at Camp Randall stadium has grown considerably in recent years. Fans cite poor opponents as a major reason for not attending games. There will not be any empty seats at a Wisconsin-Bama game.
  12. Every time I see Mike Leake on the mound I am amazed that the guy still has a job. Then I remember he is on the last place Mariners and he plays half his games in the Seattle marine layer. His 5.90 road ERA is probably a good estimate of what his ERA would be with the Brewers. And that might be generous. The only Mariner I would want is Marco Gonzales.
  13. People will complain no matter what, that's for sure. One only needs to look to Boston.
  14. Given the significance of this game I would be fine with letting Hader throw 45 pitches.
  15. I would like to see similar stats computed with negative points assigned to 100-loss and 90-loss seasons. While the Brewers have failed to sustain success, they have also generally succeeded at not being really awful (except for the early 2000s). My other comment is that the Brewers' success strategy in both 2008 and 2011 was generally to sacrifice the future in exchange for short-term success. So it isn't surprising that there was a drop-off in wins afterwards. As long as there are revenue imbalances this is kind of inevitable. Finally, this might be more controversial (and maybe shows my age), but I don't really care what happened prior to 2000 or so. It's ancient history. In the Attanasio era the Brewers have possibly the best ownership group out of any small-to-mid market team. They legitimately care about providing the best fan experience in baseball and delivering a winning product as much as possible given the constraints of being the smallest market in MLB in an unfair system. They haven't always succeeded but they have shown a willingness to adapt and learn from their mistakes. It's hard not to argue that the franchise is headed in the right direction.
  16. That is a cool idea, but WHOA SWARMING ANTS. I can handle a small number of ants but en masse it's gross. Could you enclose the camera in a ziploc bag, or would that distort the image too much? I did field work for a while and the standard operating procedure was to open outdoor boxes as quickly as possible and immediately turn/run away in case a swarm of wasps or yellow jackets came at you. Ants are especially tricky to keep out because they are attracted to electrical currents for some reason.
  17. There are smart people running the Rays, clearly they are trying to buy low. That said, if we can get pitching back there might be a chance for a deal.
  18. CLEAR is the exact same security as regular but you get to skip the line. It used to be free, not sure if it still is. The expensive version is for airports.
  19. The policy is completely reasonable. But MLB doesn’t care much about the fans, otherwise they would be concerned that attendance is down 6,000 fans/game in the Manfred era and over half the fans that do come are not invested enough to stay until the end of the game. So it is perfectly reasonable for there to be some distrust of any new policy.
