  1. It seems like the new development/hotel in West Allis is essentially taking the place of this. It probably makes more economic sense to be closer to year-round residents. Even cities with 'downtown' stadiums don't always have hotels next to the stadium. It's easier to take transit or an uber.
  2. The 2018 Mariners were a complete fluke. They had no business being anywhere near 89 wins with a negative run differential. They regressed back to a .500 team in the second half. Lightning isn't going to strike in the same place again in 2019. Felix is washed up, Cruz is a FA, and Cano is owed a fortune. On top of that, the fan interest for this middling roster is essentially zero. They are going to be stuck as a perpetual third place team behind Houston and Oakland. If they don't sell now they will probably have to sell in July and they probably think they can get more for their assets by selling now.
  3. I have no idea how that roster won 89 games, but good for them for finally realizing they need a change. Paxton (free agent in 2021) is the juiciest target but won't come cheaply. I would love to have Segura as well. He seems like the most likely target if the Mariners are in salary dump mode. Zunino is intriguing as a backup C/bench power bat but only if he costs next to nothing. He might be a good fit for Miller Park, although the size of the ballpark doesn't matter on the rare occasion he makes contact. Not interested in Dee Gordon at all.
  4. Yep--and it sounds like the Brewers would have needed to beat the Reds' offer to keep him, not just match. It is what it is.
  5. Good riddance to the Dodgers and especially you-know-who.
  6. I think the conservative play is due to Chryst's assessment of the talent level on offense. He has a history of being much more aggressive.
  7. If MLB is going to commit to this low offense, high strikeout style of game, they HAVE to institute a pitch clock. With the amount of runs scored this game should have taken 4-5 hours at most.
  8. I guess I'm the person here who hasn't even remotely thought about it yet (early 30s). I still have a considerable student loan bill to pay off. I've spent some money on travel that could have gone toward paying down debt, but I feel like I would regret not traveling while young. And I definitely don't regret getting the extra education.
  9. Robinhood makes money by routing orders to high frequency trading firms so the idea is to make it as easy as possible to do trades since that's how they make money. The amount that gets skimmed off of each trade is minuscule, so as long as you aren't trading constantly every day it probably is a small price to pay for having 'free' transactions.
  10. We parked on the street for the NLCS. I'm surprised more people don't do it, there is plenty of space and if you are at the back of the general lots you have a long walk anyway. I believe the closest street with no restrictions is 52nd or 53rd (south of National). If you cut through the VA it's approximately 3/4 of a mile to the RF entrance, which has the further advantage of never having a line for security. Plus you can spend your parking money on a drink at 4th Base on the way in. Easy out after the game in any direction.
  11. Eventually there will be an adjustment, but it will take time for it to work up to the major leagues. We have the children of the steroid era playing right now, but as defensive shifts work their way down to the minors/college/high school, hitters will evolve. Wait 10 years.
  12. I wasn't sure if I was even going to care, but it turns out I'm still hungry for more baseball and I want the Red Sox to sweep.
  13. The past month was really special watching this team evolve from a borderline playoff team into a legitimate World Series contender. I was so lucky to be able to come home this past weekend and see the games with my dad and brother. Games 6 was incredible and it was set up so perfectly for the moment we've been waiting for...and the second that ball left Puig's bat it was taken away. I'm over all the other years but I don't know when, or if, I'll be over this one. Being there made it too visceral, the exuberance of the day before gave me too close of a taste of what it would feel like to finally make it. The noise of the crowd still reverberates in my head. My voice still isn't entirely back. I'll remember this year fondly. We overcame both of our rivals. We won 12 in a row at the best possible time. The camaraderie and personality of this team was my favorite of all time. I hope that can eventually be the lasting memory of this team. But for now, it almost would have been better if they didn't get this close. I'm left wanting more. And it's not easy. The playoffs are a crapshoot and our strategy is out in the open now. Competitors like the Braves are only going to get better. Hopefully next time we can get one game farther.
  14. I won't comment on Machado himself, but the "You still suck!" chant in Game 7 was epic.
  15. Eventually fell asleep around 2:30 Today's the day we've been waiting for, no matter what happens it's going to be a memorable night. Going to cheer like the World Series is on the line. But first, off to Madison for the Badgers game.
  16. I can't sleep
  17. I lost my voice in the first inning, got it back in the 7th, and lost it again. That was so much fun. Can’t wait for tomorrow
  18. Something which he has definitely earned. He's a Punk. Absolutely. In the unlikely event of a blowout I wouldn't be surprised to see us try and settle the score. It would be fun to see if any Dodgers would actually try and defend him in a brawl.
  19. Just reading this thread made me nervous, I'm going to be a mess at the ballpark tonight. The boos for Machado might be the loudest boos in Miller Park history.
  20. I wouldn't have wanted to be at NLCS game 4, or the Dodgers-Cubs NL wild card game. The fans looked really fatigued. Both those games had very little action but dragged on and on. In game 4 I was laying in bed half-dead at the end (and it wasn't even that late here). I can't imagine going to all of these playoff games. I can't even watch them all. If there is a game 7 there is a good chance it goes until past midnight. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has the Badgers game planned for the morning/early-afternoon as well
  21. Game 7 tickets on brewers.com--act fast! Just got 3 loge bleachers. I'm very happy now, was afraid I would be stuck with standing room if the game happens.
  22. Yeah I'm not surprised. Game 7 with the pennant on the line...nobody is going to give up that opportunity.
