  1. Based on recent trades (e.g. Goldschmidt) it seems unlikely that the Brewers could net large enough of a return to not only offset Yelich's value but also offset the negative PR that would come from trading the new face of the franchise. But as you say, who knows where the team will be in a couple years. I'm hoping for an Astros-like run of sustained success.
  2. I really wish the DH was already in the NL. We could have kept Domingo Santana around. Looking at Braun's career, the Brewers have paid him about $2 million per 1 offensive WAR so I think they've gotten a pretty good deal overall. Braun has also remained productive and shows no signs of a steep decline. If Yelich showed interest in extending you bet the Brewers will be at the table. But it doesn't seem like the best choice for either party right now given the unknowns in the CBA when any extension would kick in.
  3. The good news is that Manfred is out to fix this. I see of the 15 pitchers used, there was a total of 1 that did not face the three batter minimum. So if Manfred would have enacted those rules one year earlier, all those fans would have only had to watch a 6 hour, 2 minute ballgame instead of a 6 hour, 5 minute ballgame. Ha. About 2 games after a pitch clock gets implemented we will wonder how we ever watched baseball without it.
  4. The Dodgers and Diamondbacks managed to play a 6 hour game last night, 13 innings. In 1968, the Dodgers and Braves played a game at Dodger Stadium that went 17 innings, with 8 more PAs than in last night's game, and it was almost two hours shorter. Yikes.
  5. Finally. World Series or bust. Would be nice to start off with a W against the dirty birds.
  6. That was the proper call. Doesn't matter where the ball is hit, if the ball should have easily been caught by an infielder it is an infield fly. It's a stupid rule. They should just ban double plays on popups.
  7. Well done.
  8. Doubleheader! Watch the Brewers at 11, attend Mariners opening day at 4 Plus I have a stash of Usingers in the freezer so there will be some grilling involved.
  9. The blown infield fly call in the 2012 NL wild card game. Given the magnitude of the game, nothing else comes close to that in recent decades.
  10. Phoenix is fine to visit but in terms of livability it has to be near the bottom of big cities in the US, no wonder the housing prices are so cheap. Sprawl everywhere with an endless grid of unsightly/dangerous 6-lane roads, no way to get around except driving or Uber, possibly the worst city for pedestrians in the US. Old Scottsdale was the only area that I liked. On the plus side for tourists, there is some really, really good food in Phoenix and the Desert Botanical Garden was awesome. I would go back for Spring Training for sure.
  11. Win-Loss Record: 93-69 Playoffs (Yes, No): Yes, NL Central champs Highest Playoff Level Achieved: Win World Series (why not?) All-Star Game Representative(s): Yelich, Grandal, Hader, Arcia Offensive Player of the Year: Yelich Starting Pitcher of the Year: Woodruff Relief Pitcher of the Year: Hader Most Surprising Player: Not many choices, I think Hernan Perez will be a key piece this year. Most Disappointing Player: Jeffress
  12. Well that was just atrocious. They picked a bad day to shoot 33%, but somehow it's not surprising coming from this group.
  13. What an embarrassment for the Diamondbacks, good lord.
  14. That Morant guy is ridiculous, the real embarrassment was on the offensive end. One has to wonder if there is something going on off the court that we don't know about. It's rare for a good team to completely fall apart like this.
  15. One year deal only. $20 million with a bunch of incentives.
  16. Agree with the majority... Bucks Brewers Packers The Bucks could win it this year, they are statistically the best team in the NBA and have the best player in the NBA. They might win 2 or 3 championships before another Wisconsin team wins one. The Brewers are a solid playoff team but far from the best team on paper in MLB. But with the randomness of the MLB playoffs they will continue to be a championship threat in upcoming years. The Packers have a brief window with Aaron Rodgers still on the roster. But they are definitely the weakest of the 3 teams and could potentially be in for a long stretch of mediocrity or worse in the post-Rodgers era. In general it's much harder to win a championship in college so these would be below the above 3... Wisconsin BB/Marquette BB (tie...neither coach has any proven ability to go on a deep tournament run, but with the field of 68 you never know) Wisconsin FB (with Urban Meyer out of the picture they have a better chance to with the Big Ten and get into the playoff, but their odds of beating one of the top schools are essentially zero)
  17. I also like the draw, Oregon is going to be a popular upset pick but I see Wisconsin winning. Would love to see them get far enough to get a rematch with Virginia.
  18. Why does this point keep getting repeated. It's not true. The extra time is almost entirely from time between pitches and extra pitching changes. Commercial breaks haven't gotten longer.
  19. This is an incredible story and I'm so happy for Jimmy. Can't wait to see him pitch in the regular season this year.
  20. This is wrong. Hasn't changed since the '70s. When I was at spring training last week the minor league pitchers were only using 8-12 seconds of the 20 second pitch clock. It isn't 20 seconds between pitches, it's 20 seconds from when they get the ball to being set.
  21. Keep it up. More controversy please. If only MLB players had the personality of NBA stars...
  22. Disappointed to see the pitch clock and other pace of play measures put on hold. Seemed like a no-brainer, especially with how smoothly it has been working in spring training. Although at least this will improve the speed of September games.
  23. I used to prefer the new logo but after 20 years it is starting to feel dated. The ball & glove is my preference moving forward, with heavy use of alternatives to keep things interesting. I do not want to see a full-time return to 80s colors or uniforms...those should be for retro night only. The ball & glove looks great with navy and gold.
