  1. It looks like the Brewers' hapless offense finally met its match. Thanks Padres! Edit: shouldn't have posted this
  2. This is a surprise. I honestly thought they already DFA'd him last year.
  3. You can't teach plate discipline. Even Bautista doesn't break that rule. His OBP was 114 points above his batting average the year before he hit 54 HR. Coaching helped him tinker his swing, but it didn't teach him where the strike zone is. I've seen subtle improvements from talented players like Braun and Fielder, but the rule seems to hold the majority of the time. Certainly by the time a player reaches the big leagues, the window to see significant improvement in OBP has already closed. Geoff Jenkins bit at pitches in the dirt his entire career, despite the revolving door of hitting coaches.
  4. I agree, but I guess my disagreement is with the term "Defining Moment". I think the next few weeks are the "easy part" and June has the potential to be the "Defining Moment". But no matter how you look at it, it's May 9th and they still have to find a way to win another 75+ games, so they better get going fast.
  5. I agree that is important to beat up on the weaker teams, but nobody is going to remember in September how the Brewers do in the next few weeks. The "defining moment" will come when they play the really good teams in June. Everyone will be paying attention then, when they go to New York and Boston. As for the next 10 games, even 5-5 or 4-6 doesn't doom them. They just need to get back to playing consistent baseball. It's a long season. It would be great if they go 7-3, but there is really no evidence to suggest that the offense is suddenly going to wake up, unless they are really bipolar.
  6. More aimless running into outs, instead of giving Weeks a chance with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Edit: on second thought, Gomez would have been out at 2nd.
  7. I'm not a big Gomez fan but he had a huge game today. We need him to stay that way if we want to get back in the race.
  8. Wow, these fans boo quite a bit for being the classiest in baseball. A rare, rare infield hit for McGehee.
  9. Jays broadcast just showed Verlander no-hitting the Brewers in 2007. That was another one of those "low points" like the Brewers are in now.
  10. Oh wow, what a play! I think Yo earned himself a chance to pitch the 8th. Now maybe the offense can sustain a rally and get him some rest?
  11. Verlander has a perfect game through 6 for the Tigers today.
  12. That's what my heart says, but there's way, way, way too much at risk. He will have more opportunities for a no-hitter in his career if he stays healthy, but if he winds up ineffective or on the DL from this, it is a huge loss. Plus, throwing a tired pitcher out there risks losing the game since it is only 1-0, and the Brewers really need to win this one.
  13. He's on pace for 135 pitches. He isn't going to make it if the Cardinals are patient. He needs quick outs and the Brewers need to win this game regardless of any individual accomplishments.
  14. Too many pitches to make it all the way. Gallardo needs to be pulled after 110-115 regardless of the situation.
  15. Now there is an example where sacrificing an out for a run is well worth it.
  16. I disagree. The shifts are the only thing preventing this defense from being completely abysmal. But you can't have a defense this terrible with so many contact pitchers in the rotation.
  17. Not Sveum's fault at all. But firing someone who has been with the franchise for so long and has said repeatedly how much he loves being in Milwaukee would really "shake things up". And not in a good way. Ultimately, the 2010 Brewers are failing because they had too many guys miss Spring Training, there are too many "bad" hitters in the lineup, and the defense is terrible. They gave away too many games when they were play well, and now they can't even get close to a win when they are slumping. I surely hope for the sake of the franchise that things get better soon. Specifically, they absolutely have to win a game either today or Sunday, otherwise the Greinke home debut is setting up to be one of the most embarrassing home games in franchise history considering the hype for it back in March.
  18. RRR will get his 2 years. Melvin might not even be around to trade Prince in July.
  19. At this point, they would be better off calling up the Nashville Sounds to play out the remainder of the series and give the Brewers hitters a few days off.
  20. Go to the Canadian side. There are plenty of tourist traps but the area directly adjacent to the river is a park. So you should just be able to find a place along the river to park, take your pictures, and then move on. But if you want to see a wax museum or a house of glass, it's only a block away.
