  1. It seems to take Prince 2 weeks to get going every year. Not a good year for that, but I'm not expecting much from him for a few weeks.
  2. With a small market team (and any team really) you have to balance and can only sign so many big names. The Brewers have a great rotation but they are dependent on some borderline guys to fill in the gaps in the bullpen and at the bottom of the order. There's time to get it right. Guys can come out of nowhere and make a big contribution. Help is coming from the DL. You just don't want to fall too far behind early--and it hurts to lose winnable games like Friday and possibly today.
  3. I just think it's time to recognize that you don't score many runs when you are 0-7 with RISP.
  4. That was a tough play for Betancourt but still one that more than 2/3 of MLB shortstops will make.
  5. Nyjer's speed really helped there, Freeman was trying to rush to turn the DP.
  6. I would still not bunt here, but there is an argument both ways.
  7. They said the scoreboard was broken for 1/2 inning so maybe the discussions were related to that?
  8. I agree with Bill. It was not a bunt for a base hit, just a plain old sacrifice in front of the #8 and #9 hitters. Pointless.
  9. This is my first year using MLB.tv. The picture quality is better than my TV. I'll miss my frequent trips to Miller Park but it is nice to still have the broadcast for all 162 games.
  10. It seems like every time I go to Opening Day there are awesome memories. I've only been to five and four of them were very memorable. -Glendon Rusch's 2-run HR on Opening Night 2002 (the highlight of the year since they lost the next 7) -3TO's 2 bombs in 2005 (won 3rd row tickets that year) -Bill Hall's 2 bombs in 2008 -Rickie's huge game-tying double in 2009 vs the Cubs -2010: finally a bad game but great weather
  11. Watching on MLB.tv in my office. Same plan for Monday.
  12. I second Aaron Rodgers, but Hank Aaron is a definite possibility.
  13. I was surprised at the number of picks for Tulowitzki as NL MVP. Phillies/Red Sox is and should be the consensus pick, but it never seems to work out that way.
  14. Apparently iWork is completely compatible with MS Office so the problem isn't as bad as I thought it was. It doesn't change that iWork is inferior to Office but it isn't that big of a deal now.
  15. My wife needs a new computer and I am seriously considering an iPad 2 for her instead of a new laptop. The iPad can do almost everything that a PC can do for the average user. Surf the internet/use email. Watch streaming Netflix. Listen to iTunes. That is about 90% of her usage. It does not do MS Office which accounts for most of the other 10%. However I feel like she can buy Apple's productivity software for $30 which will suffice for most cases. If she really needs office she can use my computer, which she does anyway to use Adobe CS. It would be nice for video chatting also since we live 1,500 miles from home. The Kindle app will also be cool. The external keyboard is about $50. The 32 GB iPad 2 is $650 with tax, so the total cost of device+accessories+apps is only about $750. That is about the same as I would pay for a basic laptop with MS Office and far less than the cheapest MacBook. We have no 3G data plan of any kind and do not plan on paying the extra $120 for a 3G iPad. The main problem with this idea is that the iPad is designed like a big iPhone. File transfer requires syncing with iTunes on a PC. Apple has not (probably intentionally) taken the steps to allow the iPad as a stand alone device. I want to be able to sync an iPod to an iPad and as far as I can tell you can not do it. The obvious solution is to just use her old laptop as the syncing device, but it is in serious disrepair and may stop working altogether at some point. The ideal goal is to completely remove the laptop from the equation and that is not possible yet. I would never consider an Android tablet at this point. I do not care about the processor/resolution/cameras/tech specs. Android's app market is way behind in terms of numbers and especially in terms of quality--and it only really matters when you buy the device, not 2-3 years from now.
  16. I'm not going to change my view of Morgan because of some quotes, but nevertheless I am still happy to read this:
  17. It will likely be very breezy on Monday. A low pressure system is expected to move right through Wisconsin. Most of the precip will be confined to northern WI but I still think there is a chance of heavier rain showers on Monday morning if the forecast track and/or timing of the low change.
  18. Still looking good although a system that was originally expected to move up the east cost will make a closer pass on Thursday. It could bring some clouds and possibly a shower but nothing that would affect the game. As for the home opener, it's hard to believe that the roof was open last year because this year it will be in the 40s with a chance of rain. Too early to tell if it will be a washout or just a few passing showers.
  19. Fielder will get at least $150 million even if it is a down year. Even more if he has an MVP-caliber year like many are expecting.
  20. Part of the fun of an online Brewers message board is to obsess about every little move that gets made. Even better when there are two or even three or four different perspectives about how moves should be made. It would be nice if every roster move was like the Greinke trade--almost universally heralded by Brewers fans as a significant improvement to the club. Unfortunately, most moves, especially with the last few guys on the roster, are just asking for significant debate. There are good arguments in both directions. The Nyjer Morgan vs. Gomez argument will probably be going on throughout the season and there will be plenty of "evidence" to support both sides once the season starts. What do you do when you have several replacement-level outfielders suddenly hit .350 in ST? They can't all stay on the team and the "losers" can't just be sent to the minors to wait for their turn. I've never seen any of these guys play in person and 50 AB is not enough to judge, so you kind of have to default to management and assume they can determine if Boggs and Cruz are worth keeping or not. Keep in mind that every player on the 25-man roster gets used--and by July there will be at least 30-35 players used and quite possibly more. When players have options it is easy to mix things up, but it makes it harder when you either keep or lose guys like Luis Cruz. The Brewers depth is an advantage in this case and major league-caliber players are getting released. That is bound to stir up debate even if this is a very good Brewers team. It is a very good Brewers team with one of the worst defenses in MLB, and teams with poor defense rarely make the playoffs. There will be harsh repercussions if things go badly in 2011. Depth is always going to be a concern as well. Or maybe we are all sick of Spring Training and really looking forward to Thursday?
  21. A new team wins the World Series every year, so it's only logical that this year is our turn. AL East: Boston AL Central: Minnesota AL West: LA Angels AL Wild Card: NY NL East: Philly NL Central: Milwaukee NL West: Colorado NL Wild Card: Atlanta Playoffs: Milwaukee vs. Philadelphia, Boston vs. Minnesota Milwaukee over Boston AL MVP: Mauer NL MVP: Fielder AL Cy Young: Price NL Cy Young: Halladay AL Rookie of the Year: Jennings I guess...who really knows NL Rookie of the Year: Chapman AL Manager of the Year: Francona NL Manager of the Year: Roenicke
