  1. So now we will have three Carlos Rodriguez; 2 pitchers and an outfielder. That will be fun to keep track of. Not sure how we will distinguish between two RHP with the same name.
  2. 1 G. Mitchell 2 A.Ashby 3 Turang 4 E. Small 5 S. Frelick 6 M.Feliciano 7 J.Gray Jr 8 Antoine Kelly 9 Hedbert Perez 10 J. Quero 11 Tyler Black 12 Eduardo Garcia 13 K. Howell 14 Z. Warren 15 Lutz 16 F. Valerio 17 Carlos Rodriguez 18 David Hamilton 19 D.File 20 P. Henry 21 Bettinger 22 R.Olson 23 J. Bullock 24 A.Uribe 25 Russell Smith 26 Ray 27 Ernesto Martinez Jr. 28 J. Cousins 29 F. Zamora 30 Thomas Dillard 31 Alex Binelas 32 M. Bello 33 Nick Bennett 34 H. Cantrelle 35 J. Topa 36 M.Sanchez 37 C. Hummell 38 W. Wilson 39 Max Lazar 40 Weigel
  3. Cooper would be an excellent 28th man in September. Can be your 3rd catcher, pinch hitter, and can play a little 1b and OF. Or Wes Wilson would be good too for his versatility
  4. FWIW, fangraphs is not a fan of Marcano. They had him listed at #11 with a future value of 40. They see a light hitting utility infielder with decent but not great defense. In comparison, a Brewer in AAA with a FV of 40 is Peyton Henry. They rate both Hamilton and Zamora slightly higher than Marcano (FV 40+). Marcano and two lottery tickets seems like light return for 1.5 years of Frazier. Interesting to note that while the Padres still have a number of premium prospects, they don't have the depth that the Brewers have (according to fangraphs). Padres 40 FV start at #10. The Brewers don't start their 40 FV prospects until #20.
  5. Non-drafted free agents can sign for $20k max. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2021-mlb-undrafted-free-agent-tracker-agreements-for-all-30-teams/ Surprised that Mendez has not signed yet. You would think a 28 year old would want to start his career as soon as possible as time is not on his side. When can we expect the draft picks who have signed to get assigned to a team? I assume they are in Arizona getting into playing shape.
  6. Who goes down when Cain comes off the DL? Taylor does not deserve to go down but he seems to be the obvious choice. Do they send down a pitcher? Maybe Tellez goes down and they use Yelich at 1b occasionally?
  7. Let's not get too excited yet. Let's see how this season plays out before we extend him. I'm glad we have Adames but his latest hot streak is unsustainable. At the end of June, he had an OPS of 756. Very respectable for a SS especially due to his slow start with Tampa. In 18 days in July he raised his season OPS to 832, driven partly by a 531 BAbip. He will cool off some. His highest OPS for a season, Majors or Minors, was last year with an 813 OPS. In the minors, his best OPS was an 802.
  8. A 6'6" 229lb who can play CF (normally 1b/DH), is 20-22 in SB, and has an 857 OPS. What do we have here? This is what Fangraphs had to say in the mid season update: Sounds intriguing and disappointing at the same time.
  9. These are the Pitchers that I would like to see promoted: AAA to majors E.Small (if the recent injury is not too serious) Ashby should get another look as well as the already revolving rotation of pitchers. Barker or Alvarez could follow suit with Cousins/sanchez but I would rather see the Brewers make a trade. AA to AAA Otero (next in the line of Independent lg to AA to AAA to majors relief pitchers) - Promoted, 7/21 Strzelecki and Hardy are both rule 5 eligible and have done ok, but they need to dominate more. Both are giving up too many baserunners. A+ to AA Luna (Free Carlos!) - Promoted T. Floyd (a nice surprise this year) - Promoted Bullock Promoted and Castaneda are rule 5 eligible, so may get a look. A to A+ Matulovich - Promoted Belzer C.Robinson - Promoted Matulovich and Belzer are both old for the league and need to get challenged. Cam has pitched well and has already see a brief callup to AA. Edit: Actual Promotions listed in blue
  10. With the new draft class likely to start pushing prospects up the minor leagues, here is my wish list of who I want to see get promoted. I based it on statistics, age, roster availability, and Rule 5 draft eligibility (to evaluate these players if they are at risk of getting drafted). I'll start with the hitters first: AAA to majors Free Cooper Hummel (Clancy, I'll join the bandwagon) Well, he's free but not the way I hoped Wes Wilson Both of these guys are deserving of a utility role should one open up in the Majors, though unlikely with Reyes and Lopes already on the 40 man roster. Both Hummel and Wilson are Rule 5 eligible (and were the last 2 years) AA to AAA None. Palma and Longo are older and could get promoted if an OF is needed. Maybe Fry but C seems deep enough at AAA. Turang and Mitchell should stay at AA for the rest of the year. No need to rush them. Turang Promoted anyways A+ to AA K. Howell (Great stats so far. He's rule 5 eligible and very likely to be protected) Promoted T. Dillard (Good power and little blocking him) Promoted Hamilton has been good but is blocked by Turang Both promoted. I love Cantrelle's nearly 400 OBP, but I cant see him being promoted with a below 200 BA. Promoted anyways A to A+ Warren (Great numbers) Promoted Campbell and/or McGee (Utility types that have done really well and are a touch old for low A) I could see Holt and his 400 OBP or Valerio get promoted but I'll stick with the above. Valerio is a little young and could use more time Both Promoted. Valerio dominated/color]. Martinez is rule 5 eligible but is likely safe this far away for the majors. Wiemer is intriguing but I'd like to see game power emerge first Power emerged and Promoted. Edit: Actual promotions shown in blue. They were very aggressive with promotions this year, but it sure helps that they had many players with excellent performances. Lots to be excited about.
  11. Its pretty unusual to trade for a player with the intention of then packaging him for another player. Not saying it does not happen, just that its rare and I cannot think of an example. More common (well, still rare) is a 3 team trade to get all the pieces you need.
  12. I guess Hummel's inactivity the last couple of days was so he was fully rested to play CF
  13. Lobstein claims the 40th spot on the roster from Weber. He will be DFA'd whenever we need an open spot. All joking aside, I don't think we really need another LOOGY. He's pitched well at AAA this year but for his career in the majors he has extreme splits (OPS against: 576 vs LH, 860 vs RH). Not exactly a multi-inning reliever. With Hader, Suter, Perdomo, and Milner we seem set with LH relievers (and Ashby if he gets another shot this year).
  14. It was fun to go back through this thread. Peralta was not considered the headliner, and if anything was the least known player. He threw the hardest but was too short. Can't possibly be a starter if he is too short, right.
  15. Add Gustave officially to the RP mix. He was added to the 40 man roster and was available in game 2 as the 27 man. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/brewers-select-jandel-gustave.html
  16. They needed a spot on the 26 man roster for Anderson, but it does indeed opens up a spot on the 40 man roster. 40 man roster is at 39.
  17. With Richards now gone, we will need to go deeper into AAA if we need help. A few that are pitching well are Jandel Gustave, Luke Barker, and RJ Alvarez. All 28 and older so these guys are longshots but Cousins and M.Sanchez have worked out well so far. Lindblom is also really pitching well but it seems like we tried that already. All of these options would require a 40 man roster spot but it would not be hard to make room (e.g. Weber, Yardley, Milner)
  18. Wow. And we give up Bowden Francis... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/blue-jays-trade-rowdy-tellez-brewers.html#comments Put me solidly in the column of not liking this trade. I hope it works out, but boy this looks bad on paper.
  19. I hope we are getting another player back in return. A straight up 1-1 trade does not make sense. Richards is a decent bullpen piece that can spot start. That's got to be worth more than a AAAA 1B/DH with some upside potential. Ron Robinson hit it on its head. Stat wise, this is Vogelbach's clone.
  20. A guy named "Rowdy" playing for a team called Brewers. Sounds like something from Animal house.
  21. He's been on Carolina's IL since mid-May. I don't believe they have identified what ails him.
  22. Same for Kramer. They were both drafted in 2015, so both are 6 year minor league free agents. Makes the trade less important.
  23. Don't be surprised to see Kirby in the majors this year, though I don't expect much from him. If I did the math correctly, Kirby is a 6 year minor league free agent, so the Pirates have to add him to the 40 man roster or risk losing him. I think Kramer is in the same situation. I remember being upset when we traded Ponce to the Pirates a couple years ago, and that seems to have turned out well for us
