  1. Whether he is a coke head or not, he's getting tested with regularity now.
  2. I didn't realize that managers and personnel are also being drug tested after the Mitchell investigation. I don't think it's too big of a deal. There are two reasons this appears to be an isolated incident. 1. Washington called the commissioners office before the results even came in, meaning he was allowing for disciplinary action even if the test came back negative. Cocaine leaves the system in about 3-5 days. 2. He has taken many subsequent drug tests and passed them all. He's done all the right things to alleviate the situation.
  3. No matter how desperate my team is, I'd be very hesitant to pick up Dukes. He must really be a bad egg for a team like the Nationals to drop someone with that kind of talent, age and contract control.
  4. Here's what Macha had to say after Suppan gave up 4 HRs today and recorded 6 of his 10 outs on flyballs to the outfield, "He gave up four home runs and I thought maybe two of them were legit.” At the beginning of spring it sounded like there might actually be a competition for the last two rotation spots, but it seems like the number 4 spot was Suppan's all along. Maybe I'm reading too deep into that quote, but it sounds to me like Macha is starting with the excuses to keep Suppan in the rotation and the season hasn't even started yet. I gave Suppan a lot of support last year and would love to see him succeed, but if you're in a competition to be in the rotation there should be no good excuse for giving up 4 HRs.
  5. That was a fun listen. It sounded like we missed some good cough button material when Ueck started talking about 'getting excited' and 'rolling one'......
  6. Hall signed his contract in early February 2007, so it's reasonable that he might have been celebrating during spring training that year, but the hangover must have lasted over 3 years because Bill Hall has never really the same player that he was in 2006. My guess is that Bill Hall is a below average player who had one good year. Plus there are a lot of players who have partied notoriously hard and had great careers. David Wells was drunk while pitching and Dock Ellis was tripping. And everyone knows about Babe Ruth. Obviously you have to know your limits and maybe Bill Hall just didn't.
  7. Maybe they think that the voting process is a complete joke and think that Matt Kemp should have been a starter last year instead of Braun. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Uecker cracks me up, "Here's the 3-2 pitch by Parra to Lo Duca. It's a check swing and they appeal to first base. Ron Kulpa says that that Lo Duca held up. There's a guy who needs to get some spring training work in, Ron Kulpa." It sound like Parra has been keeping the ball down and in the zone. His breaking ball seems to be spot on.
  9. There is a nice article by McCalvy on MLB.comabout Narveson and his chances. If the Brewers don't use him as a starter, it would be nice to have him in the bullpen as a mid to late inning reliever until someone gets injured or Suppan starts to pitch poorly again. Although I don't see Chris beginning the season as a starter, it's nice to see him pitch well in ST and put pressure on the other 3 guys who have a more realistic chance. To quote Macha about Narveson, "We've got not only combinations and permutations, we've got conundrums, too."
  10. Braun's tight hamstring isn't having an effect on his swing. 2 run HR.
  11. Does anyone have any tips for getting the MLB.TV feed? I have a subscription, but I can't find a working link to the game.
  12. I went 9 for 10 with my Oscar picks with Hurt Locker beating Avatar for best picture. I just didn't think the Academy could ignore the highest grossing film of all time, especially when the competition was so weak. I find out tomorrow if I won that $100.
  13. Here is the video clip of Prince getting hit. The whole thing seems ridiculous to me. I can't believe that the Giants were so offended to use the first day of spring training to intentionally bean a guy. It certainly does add a little drama to spring baseball.
  14. I'm pretty sure you could scientifically prove that Bob Uecker's voice induces the need to hold a beer.
  15. I can't find any data to back me up, but in my experience, the mormon population in Boise is relatively low. Areas in eastern Idaho like Pocatello, Idaho Falls and Rexburg have much larger mormon populations. However, I think it's a fair assessment to say that overall Boise is more religious than Austin.
  16. Population Aged 20-34 Boise - 24.83% Austin - 33.75% Average Temperature (July/January/Yearly) Austin - (84.8/48.8/68.6) Boise - (74.0/29.0/50.9) Music Austin - ACL, SxSW, huge local music scene and always on tour schedules Boise - ummm, they get some big acts occasionally Outdoors Austin - accessible, if not crowded state parks, lots of bike trails, springs, pools, reservoirs Boise - elevation, national parks and forests, some of the best hunting in the lower 48, skiing, snowmobiling, backpacking For your preferences I would go with Austin easily. I've been to Austin once and had a great time. It's the place to be if you're single and enjoy music. That said, I've lived in Montana most of my life and been to Boise enough that it would be hard to pry me away from the outdoor activities. I know you've done Georgia to Maine, GAME and the backpacking opportunities in the northern Rockies are incredible. I've never been a big city person, and I love the mountains so the choice is easy for me.
  17. Mass Effect 2 is absolutely an amazing experience. The characters are really well developed and the story is very immersing. I played through it twice and I've been thinking about a third playthrough. It's only February, but Mass Effect 2 has my blessing for Game of the Year.
  18. Well the pretty women certainly don't hurt the sport. And you have a lot more free beer hands sitting in a dugout or a bullpen so I'm sure about that argument.
  19. And I'm guessing you haven't seen the Russian's women curling team..... I saw the Dutch speedskater, Sven Kramer, on the highlights and it was his coach that told Kramer to switch lanes when he wasn't supposed to. Kramer was actually skating the course correctly, but the coach messed up and told him to switch it up. Bob Costas made it sound like his coach will never be able to return to the Netherlands as serious as the Dutch are about skating.
  20. I can't believe that all this figure skating is better for NBC's ratings. I'd rather watch women's curling than figure skating.....come to to think of it I'd rather watch women's curling than NBA basketball so maybe that's not saying much.
  21. It's been frustrating watching the US play Denmark. They are taking way to many risks, instead of taking points where they can get them. If they lose this one, they go 0-4 and it's going to near impossible to get on the podium.
  22. I was listening to XM radio during an interview with a reliever who went to arbitration several years ago (I forget who it was). And he said that despite the fact that he won the case, he would have rather taken the club offer if it meant not having to listen to all of the negative points about himself. He said that the arbitration process created such a huge rift between himself and the front office that he requested to be traded that season. Even if this is an extreme outcome of the process, I still think Corey Hart is going to come out of it worse for the wear. I wish him luck and I hope it's worth it. Like others have said, I would like to see a great season out of Hart and I'll be cheering him on.
