    Stats

Not sure if you guys would be interested, but there is a website where you can enter all of your team stats. www.slowpitchstats.com It looks like it will keep track of both season and career, but have not looked into it too much.
  2. By that thinking, Ortiz, et al, should have time to fully prepare to play the field. Also, pitchers have plenty of time to learn how to hit. They only pitch one in five days. They have four days to work on hitting.
  3. Good point, Danzig. When are we going to get to the point where there are 9 different guys on defense and offense, just like football. If a guy is good enough to hit 95+ mph fastballs, then he should be good enough to play one of the 9 positions available in the field. You have the pros/cons of good hitting/bad defense, etc. I say good riddance to the DH.
  4. 3-up, 3 down and 9 pitches in his first inning sounds like a breeze to me. The 2nd inning he definitely had trouble, but still only gave up one run. I don't consider 6 batters and 1 run to be a grueling inning, but that may just be me.
  5. I guess our definitions of grueling is different then. If his 2nd inning was grueling, then what was Stetter's performance in the 9th?
  6. Grueling innings?? They were up 8-1. That is about as far from grueling as you can get.
  7. Pierre driving one into the gap? I guess Kendall could hit 2 homers today too. It was HIGHLY unlikely considering the outfield was probably playing a bit deeper to prevent extra bases. Also, did LA have any righties left on the bench? I would rather have Gagne face Pierre than have Shouse face any righty.
  8. Agreed. I loved the squeeze call (did we ever hear who missed the sign?). Between the GIDP's, Kendall's lack of power in general, and no chance that La Russa would call a pitchout after 2 BB's, it was a perfect call.
  9. How many has he grounded into this year? Zero. Maybe that's because Yost put him in a situation where he wouldn't hit into DP's...after the pitcher.
  10. Hurdle hadn't won anything in 6 years either, until he was handed a gift last year. He has a career .462 winning percentage. One AB by TGJ may have saved his job. Can be a funny game sometimes.
  11. Guess you don't watch the games. The Brewers won 3 of those 5 blown saves.
  12. And what was the negative of keeping him in there?
  13. He was not in pain yesterday. My guess is that there is a lot of pain (and swelling) today. Would he be able to pitch with a brace? Maybe, but I'm not a doctor. If I were the manager, I'd do what the trainers and doctors tell me in regards to injuries. My guess is that the doctors told the Brewers that he can't pitch anymore with the torn ACL.
  14. If Sheets gets hit by a pitch, should Ned yank him from the game? It may be sore and bruised, and he might altar his pitching motion and hurt his arm. As long as the player and trainer say they are fine, you keep them out there. Then, the manager, pitching coach, and others keep a close eye on them to make sure that their motion isn't being altared/hindered. Exactly what they did yesterday. Same thing 99% of the managers in MLB would do.
  15. I agree with mikerollins. If the trainer says the guy is okay, then he is okay. Imagine if Ned had taken Yo out, the relievers got rocked, and after the game we found out Yo was okay, and the trainer said he could continue, but Ned overruled. This board would be going ballistic. The facts are: 1. It was a fully torn ACL. 2. He did no further damage by pitching on.
  16. Too much stock in pinch-hitting stats? That's all he'd do the rest of the year once Cameron comes back.
  17. So, which pitcher is going to take his spot on the 25 man roster?
  18. I am a Gross hater, but have to give him his props today. He played well. Also, have to give props to Yost for managing the short bench. He did not have to put guys out of position like LaRussa did. It can't be easy to play extra innings in the NL with only three bench players, especially when the SP barely goes 5 innings.
  19. My guess is that he would have done something crazy, like putting Rivera at catcher. Man, that would have been funny.
  20. Really wish Suppan would have gotten the bunt down. With a catcher playing 1B, and a 1B playing 2B, you want to get them in motion as much as possible.
  21. Not just this situation, but anytime the other team gets a couple runners. Everyone on here starts yelling to go to the pen right away. The starters need to get farther into the game than the 5th inning, or they need new starters. Also, I wouldn't call it a real pivotal out when a single would only tie the game in the 5th inning.
  22. Good luck winning games with no Riske, Torres, Mota, or Gagne in the pen in September. They would all be worn out by July. The season is a marathon, not a sprint.
  23. Ned's main concern should be winning over the long haul, not the individual game. We all want to treat each game like Game 7 of the World Series. A game in late April should be managed a whole lot different than a game in late September/October. Also, that extra 1/3 of an inning can add up. If each starter goes an extra 1/3 of an inning that would save the bullpen 54 innings on the year, which can be a significant amount.
