  1. Hmm, I must have did it wrong. I ended up with a blank sheet. I'll have to try again later today.
  2. Thanks. But... I ran the first one earlier tonight (I hope I did it right) and I let it go for about two hours, and I got impatient. So now its running again, I'll run it overnight. Hopefully it works. (My cpu is decent, I wouldn't expect below average preformance.)
  3. Alright, screwing around with it myself, this is where I'm at: I have two tables, the "Master" table and the "Batting" table in which I removed all non-Milwaukee player lines. So, I want to filter out the players on the "Master" table that do not also appear on the "Batting" table. What I'm thinking is I need to run a query off the "Master" table and use the name field from the "Batting" table as my criteria for the name field on the query, if that makes sense. Does anyone know how to do this? EDIT: Or maybe actually apply a filter to the Master table?
  4. I think deleting the non-Milwaukee players off just the Master table would be sufficient enough for my purposes. And yeah, editing the birthdates shouldn't be difficult, I understand how to do that. So you can help though?
  5. I would say, in terms of improvement over last season's team, Mike Cameron is the biggest impact acquisition due to the defensive chain reaction as well as his solid offense. Eric Gagne should also be very important for this team, but at best he's replacing Cordero, so he's not really an improvement in that regard.
  6. I'll take the robot answer: One of the least important series of the year, for their is so much time to make up for losses. It is divisional though, so it gets a boost in importance. In order of importance: Divisional -> National League -> Interleague Game #162 -> Game 1
  7. Isn't the problem with Excel is that it can't handle the full "batting" and "pitching" files?
  8. I'd like to edit the Lahman database, and looking for help on how. I have two things I want to do: 1. Delete everybody who has not played for a Milwaukee based major league team. 2. Edit birthdates and debut years. It doesn't sound like it should be too complicated to do, however I have extremely limited exposure to Microsoft Access. I am, however, fairly computer handy, so I was wondering if anyone could walk me through the basics on how to accomplish what I want to do. Can anyone help me? (Or link me to an online reference that would help?) EDIT: Even just brief steps, you don't have to explain the terminology. I'll figure it out.
  9. Let me tell you how it will be; There's one for you, nineteen for me. 'Cause I'm the taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman. Should five per cent appear too small, Be thankful I don't take it all. 'Cause I'm the taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman. (if you drive a car, car;) - I'll tax the street; (if you try to sit, sit;) - I'll tax your seat; (if you get too cold, cold;) - I'll tax the heat; (if you take a walk, walk;) - I'll tax your feet. Taxman! 'Cause I'm the taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman. Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson) If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister heath) 'Cause I'm the taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman. Now my advice for those who die, (taxman) Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman) 'Cause I'm the taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman. And you're working for no one but me. Taxman!
  10. Guys, keep in mind his clothes are a lot bigger than ours.
  11. Villnueva at best, over the first 10 starts: ERA - 3.50 IP - 70 Runs Against - 27 Bush at worst, over the first 10 starts: ERA - 5.00 IP - 60 Runs Against - 33 At worst, its six runs and 10 bullpen innings over the first two months. And Villanueva's likely not a sub 4 ERA pitcher, at least not right now, based on peripherals. The difference between them would most likely be negligable.
  12. I disagree with you about the Dodgers. Pierre will be the worst LFer in the game next season, Jones had a horrible contract season, and Either/Kemp are still young and fairly unpredictable. I can't harp on this guy too much, though the Cubs at #2 is definitely too high. Brewers and Reds could probably both move ahead of the Astros, and I'd say both are at least equal with the Cubs. Really, 1-7 could be jumbled just about any way you want though, and I do think he got those 7 correct. I like the Nats OF potential this season too. They could have three beasts out there if they fufil their potentials.
  13. Apparently, my friend Weston, who writes for the GB Press Gazette, interviewed him. I've got Weston's blog linked in my sig, though he hasn't posted anything yet. Hopefully I can get the transcripts off him, or he posts it.
  14. For the record, as for what I would like to see, I would pretty much agree with Sheets-Yo-Soup-Villy-Cappy, and Bush as the long man and 6th option. Parra follows Gallardo's 2007. Shed Vargas this offseason, still have 6 options not counting Parra. If Sheets is gone after this season, it'll sure be nice to have both Capuano and Bush still around: Yo-Villy-Soup-Cappy-Parra, and 6th man Bush. Sheets stays, we can trade Soup, Capuano, or Bush for something decent. Formatted for reading: 2008 - Trade Vargas 1. Sheets 2. Gallardo 3. Suppan 4. Villanueva 5. Capuano 6. Bush 2009 - If we resign Sheets, we could deal someone, likely Suppan, Cappy, or Bush. 1. Gallardo 2. Villanueva 3. Suppan 4. Capuano 5. Parra 6. Bush
  15. I think BF.net's near consensus that Villanueva will be in the OD rotation is not shared by Melvin and Yost. I could definitely see Bush in there over Villnueva to start the year, rebuilding trade value. I'm not so sure Villanueva's the better pitcher, either.
  16. Mench was released a few weeks ago. And you mean you'd want him to hit against LHP. He definitely has value in that role, but I think his reputation as a poor defensive OFer hurt him a lot. He's viewed as a one trick guy.
  17. Yes, I occasionally call it the "Pabst Blue Ribbon League" in my spare time.
  18. I'm borderline on if I should post this here, but similar has been posted before... Lock if out-of-bounds... I'm in an OOTP 6.5 league called the Professional Baseball Replay League, and we have an opening. We replay history using fictional players, starting in 1901. We are currently in 1935. We sim 6 days a week and 15 game days a sim, so its rather fast-paced, but I find that more fun. Lastly, actual ratings are invisible - you have to use potential ratings and stats to evaluate players. Its a very active league with lots of civil talk (none of that AIM language or annoying constant trash talk). And full catobase and all that... A very professional, fun, fast-paced league. The team available is the Pittsburgh Pirates. (Don't worry, its not unfanly because there is no Milwaukee team right now. I'm the Cincinnati Reds.) The Pirates have a stellar pitching core, but their average offense has been holding them back for a while in the competitive NL. Let me know if you might be interested. We have no plans on changing game versions as we'd lose Cato, so you have to have v6.5. Links: Homepage Forum (Cato, file download, and other links are on top of forums) Reports
  19. The reports I've heard say he has a very clean, smooth stroke and hits the ball hard and square... So who knows, if he can become a .310 line drive hitter with top of the league defense, that'd be quite stellar. But obviously the results haven't quite been there, so it makes you wonder why they've pushed him so much. Just to keep him with Iribarren is a silly reason.
  20. Doug pimped Escobar on the Winter Warmup broadcast as well. By the way they talk about him, he seems to be what the organization thinks is hitting prospect #3, behind LaPorta and Gamel.
  21. absolutely love Holy Grail but not a giant fan of their other two movies. Life of Brian is almost just as good. Brian, to crowd: "I'm NOT the Messiah!" Lady in crowd: "Only the true Messiah denies his divinity!" Brian: "Alright, I am the Messiah..." Crowd: "He IS the Messiah!!!"
  22. Would Koskie make sense now? I'm sure by now his PCS has subsided enough for his speech and thought patterns to have returned back to normal.
