  1. It has value in certain situations I believe, but overall it is used way too often.
  2. Or, you can buy a ticket and go to the games.
  3. To expand on that, if you use his larger sample verse RHP and adjust it based on the league average splits for RHB to get Braun's expected production verse LHP, it reduces his HR total by about 8. (I'm using fairly rough numbers) I think looking at his killer minor league splits we can assume he'll have a bit larger split, so we could be talking just a 4 or 5 HR adjustment of his last year HR totals. That would set him up for 40 HR in a full season (150 games) even if he doesn't get any better. So I guess even with a rough regression of his LHP splits to the mean, I'd still project 40-45 HR for Ryan.
  4. Likely. My point was that BABIP shouldn't effect HR totals, at least I can't imagine why it would.
  5. Braun's BABIP of 1.000 on balls hit over the fence is highly sustainable though, the subset we are looking at. I think Braun could average ~42 per season and Prince could average ~45 for the next 10 years. I give them both ~ a 5% max chance of hitting 60, which gives us about a 7.5% max chance of seeing one of them do it.
  6. Bush over Villanueva has been hinted, not over Capuano.
  7. Seconded, my only gripe as well. We should have gotten (if we could) a guy that could be our closer this season, like Otsuka if he didn't get injured.
  8. I'd love to see someone turn "Zduriencik" into a verb...
  9. 9. Newer Harley Davidson motorcycle - Robin Yount How did I not get that one?
  10. Did he work with the Beatles at all? For some reason that popped into my head when I looked at the photo.
  11. 1. Actually, the first was David Eckstein, so then followed the Brewers ~equivilant statistically (I wasn't around for his tenure), Jim Gantner 2. Geoff Jenkins, not sure why 3. Ben Sheets, my parents Taurus is always having problems 4. Yo Gallardo, maybe because Lumina is a Spanish word? 5. Bill Hall 6. J.J. Hardy 7. Jason Kendall 8. Mike Rivera 9. Eric Gagne 10. Corey Hart/Prince Fielder, depends on the color I guess only current Brewers are on the brain, though not suprising. I don't think the year of the car had any impact.
  12. He has a high GB rate. But yes, his HR/FB rate was also below average, likely due largely to the park.
  13. Well, after a few meetings, I've decided studying abroad is the way to go... curious, what country would you be studying abroad? That's my next decision. My options are somewhat limited by going through the Business School, and Australia is out because it costs close to 10k more than other programs. Ouch.
  14. Yeah, I've got to write my essay too. Coasties can be good looking, but they cancel that out with their ridiculus fashions and annoying speech.
  15. Reds with Blanton makes them a very legit darkhorse to take the division from the two frontrunners. He does a good job of keeping the ball out of the air and in the park too, so he would fit well in their stadium.
  16. Mark A and Doug M are shooting for the long term sustained success, rather than peaks and valleys.
  17. 1. How much gets paid for as a RA at Madison? Well its a private company, not affiliated with the university. Its a free room, free meals, and $200 a month. 2. Do you have to interview for the RA job or do you already have it? A) I have a bit of a connection, and B) they appear alittle thin on applicants. Its no sure thing, but I like my odds. 3. Do you know what you want to major in? I'm applying to the School of Business right now. Competitive, but I'm fairly confident in the resume they'll be looking at. And the School of Business offers their own study abroad program, so classes will line up pretty well. 4. Is money an issue at all? Always a concern, but I'm not too worried. I'll be able to get by on just FAFSA aid, in all likelihood.
  18. Thanks for the input, Rah Rah. Its always better to hear from both sides.
  19. I read an article about a year ago that scouts/publications were ranking kids all the way down to 4th or 5th grade. That's just nuts.
  20. When I played basketball up through out high school system, they started out teaching an extremely simple and structured offense. (Downscreen, pass and cut, screen across, pass and cut, downscreen...) Each year we would gradually get more freedom, and the area's middle school has/had some very good offensive teams running motion offenses. But I agree with Uecker9, its going to be tough to do much of anything without a solid point. In the meantime, maybe a high post game, maybe an extremely high post game. Just get one of those guards to get the ball over halfcourt, then have the forward cut up from the block all the way to the top of the key, and have the forward get him the ball right away. If this foward is tall, it shouldn't be too difficult to hit him, and then you can just have some of the guys cut to the basket and see if he can turn and hit them.\ Good luck. EDIT: Actually, my idea sounds very similar to TooLive's...
  21. Transportation thoroughfares do not count, i.e. highways and airports, nor do hotels. You can only claim to have "traveled through" the state. Once you leave the airport, highway, or hotel to eat, explore, sightsee, or seek entertainment, then you can claim to have "been to" the state.
  22. Best of the thread.
  23. I've been to England, I've been to Ireland, and I'm going to say I'm most likely going to end up in Europe again sometime. Hence I kind of would like to go somewhere else. I still have a little while to decide where, I may change my mind. As for RA, the private dorms I'd be in are very relaxed. There is no "policing" of the residents. The policy is that if you see someone drinking, assume they are 21. If they are doing something illegal, make sure they shut their doors. So I'm not to worried about getting on people's bad side due to my "authority." But yes, it sounds like Study Abroad would be the way to go.
  24. Where would you be studying abroad? My criteria is kind of: English speaking, non-Europe nation. Kind of narrows it down to Australia. But I definitely have time to change my mind. Which private dorm? University House
