  1. you are kidding, right? I think he mixed them up. Actually, I think he's in at this point. Sheets, Suppan, Capuano, Bush, Vargas. When Gallardo comes back, Vargas gets axed, traded, or DLed. Parra in AAA, Villanueva likely in the pen. My comments: 1) This is being overblown a bit. Its just posturing. If anything, the thing to take away from this is that despite Gallardo's knee problem, we are still shopping pitching. 2) Like Ennder has pointed out, Villanueva is a bit overrated around here. Scouts and secondary stats both have always suggested he's a mid-4's ERA pitcher, just like Bush and Capuano. It makes more sense to give the starting spots to the vets in that case, I would think. 3) Don't worry, Carlos will get his starts next season, no question about it. Even if he does start in AAA, it'll be partially to keep him stretched out to assume a starting role at the first trade/injury.
  2. Just because we discuss the flaw doesn't mean we ignore the things he brings to the table. Of course people will gravitate toward the flaw, because that's the discussion point. If the Brewers are rumored to be acquiring a .420 OBPer who goes 20 for 40 in SB every year, the OBP will be noticed (and loved) but the SB rate will be the discussion. What else can you say about the good characteristics except that you like them? What is your basis for the value you place on statistics? If you base it on linear weights or analysis that actually place a value on them, there really isn't that much wiggle room on what is actually the most valuable, and even by how much. (still some though) I think partially educated stat users can't sometimes create the perception you have. And I don't consider myself fully educated either.
  3. Did I wake up in 2004? A Russell Branyan thread and pitching wins thread on the same day!?
  4. To be picky, I think Ryan is a bad example. He really wasn't that great overall. My quick calculation has him ~220 runs above average over his career, and about 22 wins over .500. For his career, he was actually 32 wins over .500.

  8. ERA is the same way. But at least ERA takes out the offense component of pitching wins, which should have just about zero value in determining a pitchers worth. I don't buy that a pitcher pitches differently depending on the score. The goal in any situation is to get the batter out.

  12. Ha, this is awesome! We could use that 3rd IF option.
  13. He must have drew teams out of a hat. Its not just the Brewers. Twins #5, Rangers #9, Royals #11... Its gotta be a joke.

  15. "Hi-dy-ho Tim!" Naaailed it!
  16. Its not riveting, but its good for a sports movie. Not usually a fan of sports non-comedies.
  17. Wow, you described much of my weekend, sans about an hour and a half last night. I played Madden '06 for regular XBox for a while, watched Bagger Vance, and am now hitting refresh here at BF.net.
  18. Oh, no, MST3K is definitely the awesome one. We need a caption on that too though.
  19. What's up with that black part on the bottom? It instantly reminded me of the Band of Brothers photo... http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d175/sbrylski06/yostbob.png
  20. The atmosphere there is amazing!
  21. I'll vote National Tour. "Snows in October" is a great slogan too, but a little cocky for not playing in the postseason since '82. How about once we do make the postseason, release a shirt with that design along with "2008 NL Central Champs".
  22. OOTP8 actually does, players and team names, as I understand. Its more fun for me to use ficitional players though, and a fictional environment. But OOTP is versitile, you can do whatever you want with it.
  23. Exercise extreme caution! Sheets - Suppan - Capuano - Bush - Villanueva to start the season then? Actually, I would not be shocked at all to see Vargas in there for two starts or so, if they want to start Villy in the pen.
