  1. For me it's not underrating him as much as wondering if the difference between him and what we already had was worth trading 4 prospects for. I would have prefered not to have done this deal but not overly fussed about it either. One thing I do like about this is he is the type of hitter that we don't have a lot of. I'm a fan of having different types of hitters in the lineup and we were missing his type of hit tools. Completely 100% agree with you on this. Take away the aspects of the trade and I'm extremely happy that Yelich is a Brewer, he's the type of hitter I wish we had more of in the lineup. Trading 4 prospects for him is what I'm not extremely happy about.
  2. Braun, full no trade clause. Cain, full no trade clause at least for this year and even without one, it's not like we were going to sign him just to trade him in June. Yelich, see Cain. So unless they're actually serious about moving Braun to 1st full time, in which case Thames and/or Aguilar is on the chopping block, where is Santana going to play. And yeah, they can move them around but they're not going to be considered full time players, so how happy are they going to be with that? Sorry if I don't see rainbows and sunshine all the time but getting value for Santana got quite a bit harder than it was 24 hours ago and when reports came out earlier in the offseason about the market for Santana being cool to begin with, I'm not exactly optimistic that we're going to get good value for him. Santana RF. There's room for 25 - 35 games in LF for Braun with normal rest days from yelich santana cain. No injuries. Aguilar basically become a ph. Thames becomes a part time player. Im not concerned at all about the feelings of thames who can't hit lefties who had 1 monster month and a guy we scooped off waivers. I want abs going to great bats. Are we going with a 8 man pitching staff? no backup catcher? no backup middle infielders? there's only 25 spots on the roster....
  3. With the huge stockpile of OF we now have, it seems like there are so many different combinations of direction we can go at this point. I really liked the Thames/Aguilar platoon at 1B in 2017 in terms of production for the cost. It seems like Braun might end up being shifted to 1B this year to help clear the overflow of current OFs unless multiple moves are made. Also, Yelich has never played a MLB inning of RF in his career and by all reports he has a below average arm, so I really hope we don't have any inkling of trying him in RF which means I think Santana, Braun, or Phillips are the RF in 2018. 1) Keep Santana, move Braun to 1B, sign Walker to 2B, sign one of Yu, Arrieta, Lynn, or Cobb. In this case, I think you keep Phillips as the 4th OF, trade Broxton, Aguilar, Villar, and Thames - would be happy receiving prospects similar in range from Diaz to Yamamoto for each of these four. I think this is my preferred route they go. Could have an order of: Cain CF, Yelich LF, Braun 1B, Shaw 3B, Santana RF, Walker 2B, Pina C, Arcia SS, P. 2) Trade Santana to CLE for Triston McKenzie or BOS for Michael Chavis and Tanner Houck, sign one of the 4 SP FAs, Braun to RF. What if there's a trade for a 2B and/or 3B? Move Shaw to 1B. makes Thames, Aguilar, Villar, Santana, and Broxton all needed to be moved. So many different ways to go.
  4. That's fine if you believe that but why? There's questions marks with all four guys we gave up and potentially, none of them could pan out. Sure, there's a chance all of them pan out but how likely is that? The point is, if you're going to make a blanket statement like he got "taken to the cleaners", at least expand on why you think so. For me, I think both sides win. Not every trade needs to have a winner and a loser. Of course one side might "win" a little more but both sides can benefit. We sent a lot of talent out but also a lot of risk. If Yelich performs like he has without even improving, and one of the guys we sent reaches his potential, I think it's a win-win for both. Hardly being "taken to the cleaners." I will agree with Boomer here, and toss in my reason for agreeing. Prior to the trade we had an OF looking like: LF Braun, CF Broxton/Phillips RF Santana, with Brinson looking like he might be pushing for that CF starting job. Post-trade and signing our OF now looks like: LF Yelich CF Cain RF Braun? .... Santana most likely on the move? Phillips staying as the 4th OF? Broxton on the move? I just don't think the upgrade from the old OF to the newly constructed OF is worth Brinson, Harrison, Diaz, Yamamoto & a 5 yr/80M contract (I actually think it's a solid contract, I wouldn't call it a steal, but they didn't overpay). I'm hoping Stearns is still able to get value for Santana, Broxton, Braun, and/or Phillips, whichever combo of those guys he decides to deal, because all other 29 GMs now know he has to deal one of those guys at minimum. If he's able to acquire another helpful piece or two in this deal/these deals, then my tune on the Jan. 25th happenings might change, but I'll wait until I see what that is.
  5. I completely agree with you on this. I'd be extremely happy with a Santana for McKenzie deal. Gets an ace upside pitcher in the organization while creating playing time for Phillips and Brinson.
  6. I was pointing out that there are a lot of cupcakes in the B1G each year, and that your arguments of "well the B1G plays 9 conference games where the SEC plays 8" is not a good argument that B1G teams play a tougher schedule. When WI gets to play Illinois, Nebraska, and Minnesota Or OSU getting to play Rutgers, Indiana, and Maryland each year vs playing Ole Miss, Miss St, and Arkansas each year, that's night and day.
  7. There's nothing in the world you can say to me that: Rutgers, Indiana, Maryland, Illinois, Minnesota, and Nebraska even come close to Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Missouri. Or, let's even try this: Alabama > Ohio State Georgia > Wisconsin Auburn > Penn State LSU > Michigan State Mississippi State < Northwestern South Carolina < Michigan Florida > Purdue Texas A&M > Iowa Missouri > Nebraska Ole Miss > Minnesota Tennessee > Indiana Kentucky > Rutgers Arkansas > Maryland Vanderbilt > Illinois
  8. 2000: Oklahoma 2001: Miami (FL) 2002: Ohio State 2003: LSU 2004: USC 2005: Texas 2006: Florida 2007: LSU 2008: Florida 2009: Alabama 2010: Auburn 2011: Alabama 2012: Alabama 2013: Florida State 2014: Ohio State 2015: Alabama 2016: Clemson 2017: Alabama
  9. Wow, ********* B1G fan, much? You sound like my Iowa fan roommate who didn't want to watch the game last night because no B1G team made the playoff. The pre-season rankings don't mean anything when it comes down to who makes the playoff. In Week 13 the top 4 were Clemson, Auburn, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. Only 2 of those 4 made it. Throughout the season, they showed the previous 3 seasons and there was always a big flux towards the end of the season who actually made the playoff vs who the first 4 were at the release of the first football poll in week 9. If Wisconsin would have won, they would have made the playoff. If Ohio State wouldn't have been embarrassed by a mediocre Iowa team, they would have made the playoff. I HATE alabama, but the schedule they play in the SEC is so much more difficult than what Wisconsin or Ohio State plays. You're complaining about Alabama and Georgia's non-con schedules in 2018 when Wisconsin's 2017 non-con schedule was Utah St, BYU, and Florida Atlantic? After watching the three playoff games, I would say it was pretty clear Georgia and Alabama were the two best teams, Oklahoma a very close 3rd, and Clemson a distant fourth.
  10. I'm just hoping the GM and new DC can get on the same page and draft some guys who fit the new defensive scheme. There looks to be a lot of really good defensive talent at all levels available at 14. Christian Wilkins DT, Maurice Hurst DT, Vita Vea DT, Taven Bryan DE, Harold Landry, DE, Marcus Davenport DE, Ogbannia Okoronkwo OLB, Malik Jefferson LB, Roquan Smith LB, Tremaine Edmunds LB, Joshua Jackson DB, Minkah Fitzpatrick DB, Denzel Ward DB, Derwin James S. Would love the Pack to do what Buffalo did last year, and have a team with QB fever offer to move down 15ish spots and pick up a 3rd this year and a 2019 first rounder.
  11. As excited as I am to add Bledsoe, I'm bummed to see Monroe leave. Loved him coming in off the bench and bullying around guys down low for 20-25 minute a game and putting up 10-12 points. Thon / Henson / Telly need to step it up down low now.
  12. I think this loss falls squarely on MM. His offensive game plan was flat out awful. I second everything bjkrautk said, he set Hundley up for failure by only attempting 2 passes in the first quarter. Then, Hundley looks great on the drive that puts them up 14-7, then they go right back to the terrible play calling of run, run, pass, 3&out. No creativity at all, and seemed to have kiddy gloves on Hundley, not allowing him to do anything, when he showed in the TD drive that he could make solid quick throws and use his feet to make something happen. MM and Capers both need to go, this has been the case for 5+ years. To top it off, the decision to try a 59 yard field goal with 6 seconds left in the second quarter was such a buffoon choice, Crosby had a 0.001% of making that FG in those conditions, with a miss giving the Saints a Hail Mary chance. Why not just throw a Hail Mary yourself at that point? or a quick 5 yard 5 second play to give Crosby a better shot at a FG, or make it a shorter chuck on a last second play. That right there summarizes MM's coaching capabilities.

  14. Update: The NFL is officially dead to me for the remainder of this season. Nothing they can do now will change my feelings, so hopefully they can get their act together for next year. Recent events, as in the horrible officiating? Or the non-playing events?
  15. What's the deal with the no P.I. call on the Jordy play when he got tackled while the ball was still 5 yards away from him? Was that the correct call because a Seattle player got his hands on the ball, or should that have been P.I. anyway? Hmm..I have to agree to disagree with you on this. House was in good position, but Brice had his hands on Graham the whole time and Graham didn't make contact until he was trying to get free and the ball was coming down. I initially thought it was not catch able, but after rewinding a few times, that was just a really bad call. https://twitter.com/LosRealAli/status/907008777030737920/video/1 That's the only link I can find. I think it shows two things. The PI on Brice was pretty obvious and not needed as House and he were in perfect position with him hemmed in along the back of the endzone, but also...Mike Daniels just wrecks offenses.
  16. Pina!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow. Huge huge huge. hopefully that CS helps swing momentum the rest of the road trip.
  17. Like the Thornburg for Shaw, Dubon, Pennington, and Coca trade? Shaw hasn't help the team at all this year.
  18. Yeah, he's painful on TV, must get nervous or something. Augustine sounds like he was either grabbed off the set of Fargo or a bar stool in Cudahy. Is there a difference?!? Good ol' Kewaunee, Wisconsin. I'm truly amazed everytime I go back home, that everyone really does sound like Auggy there.
  19. I just think BA comes across as a smug ******. I don't find him all that insightful, and he acts like he knows everything.
  20. In 3 years the Cubs will stlll be dealing their prospects (which Theo will draft and sign and develop between now and then) for good major league players to fill their few holes, and be 15 games ahead of the Brewers who will still be telling us to be patient because even though the first and second wave of prospects were busts, that third wave is really something. Epstein and Hoyer are head and shoulders above Stearns and will still have the advantage of a budget twice the Brewers'. One franchise is trying to sell hope for some future that never seems to get here and the other is selling winning. Brewers have 2, count em 2 playoff appearances in 35 years. Pathetic. Then become a Cubs fan.
  21. Going to need the bullpen to come up big tonight. Can we get a couple innings out of Hader? or is he strictly being used as a 1-batter loogy by CC at this point?
