  1. I like the platoon thing too but I don't like having the arbitration $$$ racking up year in/year out for what really is two halves of a player that would be limited if either half went down. Another question is with LSchafer and Aoki...shouldn't we sell high on Nyjer...especially when the Tony Plush stuff wears thin on a .500 team that misses Braun and Fielder for the start of 2012?
  2. Out for 50 options... Aoki-lf Morgan/CGomez-cf Weeks ARam Hart Gamel Lucroy AGonz after the 50. Weeks Aoki-cf Braun ARam Hart Gamel Lucroy AGonz
  3. Doesn't Saito have a clause in his contract saying he can't be offered arbitration? Yes this is true... KRod's arby is seriously in doubt as other closers are on the market and may diminish his ability to get the big money this year....he could take the arbitration money from MLW and go at it next year. PF will net two picks in the top couple of rounds and add that to our own picks means we can expect something similar but not as wonderful as last year's first round draft picks.
  4. Yeah I'd love to re-sign ZGreinke too, but I wanted Sabathia and it is going to break down like that as well...THAT would be three straight years of 2 #1s...that is a trend. Haudircourt has already written about KRod being the 3rd best closer on the market next year and might take a one year deal if offered arby....JSOnline article said he didn't think Melvin was going to offer.
  5. In light of the Brewers decision to not trade Prince and take the two draft picks...I think we could see a trend moving forward. 2011 draft two first round draft picks thanks to Covey not signing. 2012 draft two first round draft picks thanks to Prince walking. 2013 draft two first round draft picks thanks to Greinke walking. (I fully expect Marcum to re-sign, but not Zack Greinke) 2014 draft two first round draft picks thanks to Corey Hart becoming too expensive for what he brings and walking. 2015 draft two first round draft picks thanks to Gallardo going to the Yankees/Red Sox and not re-signing. Yes, I really think they will try really hard to sign Greinke to a Sabathia type deal. Corey Hart could maybe be had for more years at 10mil per...or he could be thrown a Werth deal. Gallardo could be a lifer, but his stats under 30 will be nearly impossible to keep in MLW. Thoughts?
  6. I think there is something here...LMorrison and Nunez/Oviedo (you choose the name moving forward) for Gamel and Braddock would be welcomed in Miami...at least as a starting place. Winning and a budding tradition would keep him in line...that is why Weeks, Gallardo, Braun are signed longterm and the Kapler/Edmonds/Kotsays are brought in yearly. Nyjer was a misfit too...until now. It is not a bad idea...
  7. Saito had a do not offer arbitration clause attached.
  8. The Brewers are a whole lot closer to picking up Antonelli from WSH than Hardy from BAL...period.
  9. Manzanillo and one of our 1st basemen of the future (Halton, HMorris, CDennis, CHawn, JRogers) and I bet the farm on it...
  10. Sounds like he is shooting to be the next Lyle Overbay at best.
  11. I think I would rather have Kotsay at shortstop at this point...that is how down I am on YB.
  12. Basically, and forgive me if this was stated on the previous five pages, this trade is Cutter Dykstra for SMitre as Morgan and Dickerson kinda wash each other out. I make that trade every time.
  13. If Cleveland had taken TGreen instead of MBrantley then some things would be different around here... Brantley would be on the 40 man roster and someone now on the MIL 40 man would not be...any idea who? Maybe that person could have been packaged with JJ to get more pitching and not pick up CGomez in CF...or maybe Gomez would platoon with Brantley. Would you assume that Brantley is player enough in 2010 to start in CF at that young age?..it would be interesting to see how the team might be different...and the lineup would be different too...Brantley could hit 2nd, but I don't think Gomez is up to that. Just thinking out loud and hope this is the right forum for it...thanks.
  14. Mulder, Pavano, and even Smoltzy at this point have to receive some incentive based deals...I would like the Brewers to be one of those teams...decent base and escalators.
  15. Gomez, Gamel, and a PTBNL for JJohnson and Paulino/JBaker (I know they have Maybin but they already moved Hermida and are looking at moving CRoss soon...Gomez would bring a lot of value to that South Florida payroll) I think we spend on this...prospects and cash...
  16. I am surprised I have not read the answer yet...here it is...Gamel stays in the infield because CMG can play 3b and 2b. So when Rickie gets hurt...again...in 2010 Gamel will be much more polished at 3b. Some truth to the arguements of him eventually sliding over to 1B when Fielder moves on and value of 3B over RF...but he stays in one place to get ready to play 3B in 2010.
  17. Bryan LaHair crushes RHP...CHart over his career fairs better vs the LHP though not last year. Prince may get hurt. A team could always use an extra lefty thumper...he gets my vote. I like bargain basement shopping and wouldn't mind finding a reserve INF to pair with Heether if CC goes away...
  18. Over the course of this year and next, I anticipate the Brewers putting together some trades like Gamel/Anundsen/Baron for one real player and bring down the 45+ players vying to make the 40 man roster to a number much closer to the actual 40...
  19. Since I don't think we will be in the game later for Lackey, EdJackson may continue his 2nd half fall, Hamels will most likely not be moved...and we still need throwers... Any idea what else would have to be thrown in on a DLowe for Suppan trade... DLowe for Riske, Suppan, Taylor Green, another prospect... Before you say it...sure JVasquez would be better...ATL will think so too...so nevermind that... add Mulder and keep Gamel so he could be moved later (all star break for pitching) if needed. Apologies if this is posted elsewhere...thoughts?
  20. First off, another trade has to be made...this time for pitching. Gamel or someone with a nice trail of low minors players behind him need to be moved for an inning eating player with some upside (Chris Young type, but not him specifically). After that is done we can consentrate on the rest of the staff....and a catcher. But I cannot believe that people are actually considering Washburn as an option after living through the Jeff Suppan era. Lowe's current contract and Looper's current stats will be what you get a diet of for 3 or 4 years. WOW! He is from Wisconsin...who cares. This team cannot eat the contracts of Suppan and Bill Hall only to turn around and throw it away on a flyball pitcher that benefitted from having 3 CFs behind him in Safeco. Gagne was a mistake...but he was a one year mistake. I would rather re-up Looper and get the Scarpetta/Rogers/Anundsen/Peralta/Rivas/Periard/Butlers of the world a shot in a year. Pocket the money now...take on another pitcher around the break if we are close and not cram money we don't have into the pockets of a pitcher we will grow to loathe.
  21. If they took their seats in the 4th and left in the 7th then we are not talking about fanatics. Fanatics know where Gamel when to school and from which country AEscobar hails.
  22. 3) Dealt Cameron for Melky (saving 8-9 million) if that was needed to get a better/more expensive starter Yes Igawa was coming along in this trade too... Without Cameron do we get Hoffman???? JK talked to him a lot, but I thought Mike's calls were the critical mass in the decision making process... Something to think about.
  23. Thanks BTM, bando I think you are on to something (first time I have said that...ever.) I like the idea of Baker and his contract http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p4ew-fwu2XT0fPSMO1L7JQw I think Mijares might be too much, but maybe Delaney (same age, good whip numbers again this year) and a A+ kid could do it. This would be help the 'pen too, add another low contract and depth, and be decent return for JJ. I could not see straight up, so I would want GM DM to get some gravy for the long haul outta this deal.
  24. BTM...Please note that the initial post or first trade idea came before the KC/SEA trade and that we can agree now that JJHardy is definitely on the block and BBannister is definitely in talks...but a idea of a direct path was cut off by the Betancourt trade. I like BBannister as a national league pitcher, but I'd also like some youth to come back as well in any trade.
