  1. Weeks/Gillespie/BNelson/ + 1 more Brevard Co. OF for Cain and Durham (to leadoff and play 2b) and I am in...
  2. not rational... wow...why stop there...why not add Clement and half of Tacoma for the rights to Antone Williamson??...Really..Ichiro and Felix? for Prince and players we are kind of phasing out (scraps)...wow. Someone please come up with the typical deal to add Washburn (or SF's Taschner).
  3. I tell you what...that is a gutsy proposition...but to take on a bad contract in Sexson you are going to have to give one over in exchange as well...Gagne, BHall (a bad contract at his current production level) or better yet, Suppan...Jeffress and PF is too much...even with Felix on board. Why is SEA wanting to ditch Sexson so badly...he is in the last 3 months of his contract and just won't come back...05:$4.5M, 06:$11.5M, 07:$14M, 08:$14M anyway...kudos to RockCoCougars for the start of this interesting idea
  4. Fuentes...what a great idea...I wish I'd of thought of that...oh wait.... http://forum.brewerfan.net/search.php?keywords=367179#reply-367179 What a difference (less than) a month makes... Having another great arm that happens to be a lefty moves the GMotas of the world down a notch so they are not having to be pivotal 6 months after being given away for Estrada...the draft picks are gravy and it would make another exciting year of 6 picks in the top 70something if/when Sheets goes.
  5. Making the playoffs is a HUGE boost the team's bottom line and significantly changes what a team can do and cannot do in the offseason...
  6. Put him in a Giants jersey and get 2 pitchers in a Brewers jersey...that is how we get the most from him...
  7. Is this a violation...or are we talking about Donovan?
  8. WhooYah! Shoutout to the hometown canary carpet, The Salisbury Post...AL Brown boys are corn-fed hosses and I hope that this kid continues his Cape success in Big Sky country...
  9. Are we implying that it is time to trade up?
  10. "My mechanics have always been fine, it's just mentally, a mindset of just really not trying to overthrow that's gotten me where I am right now" Maybe a tired arm is good for better movement, better control, realization of pacing oneself and doing what Derrick could not... as a #5 pitcher i have seen worse...I don't know if kudos go to GM DM or Yost cause they had no choice really....but so far, so good.
  11. As much as I have beaten McClung's name like a rented mule...I have to go with Seth and not add another name to the 40 man roster...maybe later if he fades into expectations then Carlos can take over starting again...maybe or Dillard...but not Weaver... FTJoey, only seasons 5 or earlier on "The Simpsons"
  12. Good... Brantley's newfound power Escobar Aguilar Nelson as maybe a prospect again Bad... Brewer The fact that the Brevard Co. outfielders are still at Brevard Co.
  13. Two things make sense to me...1) trading two or three guys that are not making this team anyway (or play significantly anytime soon) for 2 high 2009 draft picks (ala Linebrink or Cordero) think of it as an investment...2) Finding a better Guillermo Mota... Fuentes is merely a way to make both those things happen. As much as I love what Dillard is doing and what Stetter and to some extent ZachJack did, I feel that come crunch time I just want someone better on the hill. I hope that Gagne comes back to his long lost form and Riske pitches lights out for the rest of the year...but I'd still want to move Errecart, Fermaint, and Katin for 2 stud draft picks like an Odorizzi and a Dykstra... Just a thought...the Inman, Garrison, Thatcher trade seemed to make sense to me in that way...this is a great! forum for such banter... Conversely, I do not feel compelled to move Sheets even if he doesn't look to re-sign and we are out of contention...the offer would have to be better than 2 high picks...6 draft picks out of the top 62 for two years in a row is not such a bad thing...
  14. Given that a lot of JackZ's press conference includes how much work is done by the scouts and the team tracking players that they truly like even if they are the BPA at the Brewers' pick, I wonder what it means when he DOESN'T talk about a player or all the hard work that goes into a player. Was the player MIL wanted at #53 gone in the #45-52 range and Jack reached for the BPA sheet and pulled Lintz' name off a sheet...?
  15. I would still be tempted to take him and not worry about catching for 7+ years if I was a top 4 team...BJ went 1-1 in '85 and there was SICK talent on that board...it will be interesting to see how it plays out...thanks battlekow
  16. An ACC shortstop turned into a catcher...good stick, great athlete...and a chance to be the number one pick overall...is Buster Posey the second coming of BJ Surhoff? How do they compare? Does Posey have a higher ceiling?
  17. Well I am not here to doubt Colby or GM DM but 50 some odd kids drafted for 1 nugget of gold seems like a lot of picks for a maybe...especially when you cannot trade out of the 1st round and are all but guaranteed a top 30 player at a relatively high level of play.
  18. I guess what I was asking was if anyone could come up with 2 or maybe 3 kids that A) they would be willing to part with B) COL would take in return for a player possibly leaving at the end of the season C) would make 2 high end draft picks worthwhile... As in Errecart/Iribarren/Gillespie for Fuentes (or 2 picks next year)...for example...
  19. ColbyJack...I think one solid MLBer per draft (40-50 kids) kinda sets the bar low...I know all sports come at their drafts at a different angle but I'd be upset if my hockey, basketball, or football team only got ONE starter per draft...and MLB has soooo many rounds...and only 25 guys on the active roster... Is it because of the massive talent dropoff after say round 10 or so? It just seems to sell the process short and other teams have done better than that historically.
  20. Grrrr...Gopher's got claws...(yawn)... anyway back the the thread at hand... Does this conversation change at all now that KC is talking about making Soria a starter (and trading Greinke for bats)? Surely his value increases somewhat based on that...if you wait to see if his conversion is successful then the price goes up...so as long as we are on this topic...Soria the starter for LaPorta? A little more interesting...also Greinke is on trade map too but that is a different topic for another day...Weeks for Greinke blahblahblah...
  21. This is a guy who will most likely be on the trading block very soon if not even now... Fuentes is in the last year of his contract and he is a nice reliever (2.78 ERA .229 BAA 1.19 WHIP as of 6/2) for a team that is going nowhere and already talking about shipping some guys out... He has closing experience, you know, in case our guy gets shaky or hurt or something and is a lefty to boot...Much like the Scott Linebrink trade we can send some kids, and if Fuentes walks after the year, then we get to enjoy another two draft picks for Jack Z... For all of you that hated the Linebrink trade this may not be your cup of tea...but if you liked getting the two extra picks then I ask you...what 2 or maybe 3 kids do you send to Denver for Brian Fuentes...and the subsequent draft picks to follow?
  22. Nobody is going to take our trash*(one was demoted to AAA, one was demoted to a platoon) without giving us trash* back...Boston will unload Lugo on us etc...
  23. We could package him in with prospects (Gamel and Suppan to SF for Lincecum and others blahblahblah), but good points about his steadiness and salary set in a rising tide of what pitchers are getting paid were also made above...
  24. Top 50 prospects from a few years ago include the immortal Ryan Costello, Dave Krynzel, Josh Baker, John VandeBerg, and Grant Richardson...clearly not all of the top 50 will have the careers that Banks and Unroe had...and that is sad. When Hart signs an extension, and I truly think it is a when not if, and then LaPorta comes up to play RF then our OF is done for 5+ years... putting the two thoughts together and adding cheap relief pitching (hoping the best for JTavarez) for this year's run comes up to a serious post... I apologize for not adding a trade proposal that will blow up the brewers, add a Brandon Webb type player, or Brandon Webb himself...I made some calls, but apparently Josh Byrnes wants to keep him.
  25. Good stuff...but no way that a draft where you get the #7 overall correct and then totally whiff on the next 10 rounds get a B+.
