  1. Word...Rottino should get dropped thanks to Looper...
  2. Well said! I think that Bush should be the #4 and Yo be the #1 for the first week to get Bush a home start and Yo a chance to feel like the ace. After that, I would not be opposed to resting Yo early as a #5 starter is not really needed for a while. Just my thoughts.
  3. Ennder you are almost right...Bowden and WSN cannot sign Dunn because the big guy doesn't want to play there. PFielder, if traded, will go to DC. Iribarren has little value to us but more to WSN and their situation at second base considering they just traded their most available/gifted talent at 2B as part of the Olsen trade. Belliard could play well all year, but maybe HI is worth a look to Bowden. For MLW it frees up a 40 man roster spot for another pitcher. PF will be traded before he hits the market...this year we need some players to fill the gaps, that is why this was floated...
  4. It might not be enough return for the Brewers but GMs have rationalized trades that freed up cash for FA's before...you could also add Dunn in as part of this trade as well...and if Sheets followed then he would be figured in there too. Suppan, Salome, Iribarren, Fielder for JZimm, Ryan Zimm, and OConnor + Dunn and Sheets...not too shabby. WSN would take on Supp's salary and need a starter as Redding will most likely go elsewhere. It makes sense for them if they get Fielder in the process. Ryan Zimm is a really good 3B and if AEscobar moves in at SS next year then that side of the infield will be pretty slick with the leather. For MLW this deal brings in a young kid that might be an ace, Jordan Zimmerman...so it keeps MLW in the race and also helps with young pitching...
  5. This is not necessarily for more pitching. It has salary dump elements, avoiding Fielder's arbitration for Zimmerman's, and adding a Wisconsin boy in the process. Sign Dunn to a 2 year deal...Trade Salome/Suppan/PFielder/Iribarren to WSN for Ryan Zimm, Jordan Zimm, and MO'Connor. Plenty of reasons that it will never happen, but it would benefit both squads. Signing Sheets to a incentive laden deal would not be so bad after that...
  6. Kris Benson is still available and, according to his agent, "is as flexible as he has ever been". He must be somewhat happy that someone threw 1.5 at Pavano.
  7. I would trade Hardy and Cameron for Ellsbury, Lowrie (who would move to 2b next year), and Bard...and I really like JJ...but I'd do it and then go out and sign Looper AND Sheets...as Ben has proven he needs to be handcuffed. Rouse
  8. Bring on Brenly Trade Suppan for Lowell Sign Randy Johnson then add Schilling at midseason Then we are sure to win the 2001 NL Pennant...I cannot wait!!
  9. I would rather have a Dwayne Wise-like career fringe guy than a Juan Pierre and his bloated contract...even if you are moving Suppan... Gagne was bad enough and he was just a one year deal... find some kids, take a chance on players making less than 500K before you lock into the long term.
  10. This may sound premature as he is not even arbitration eligible but ink Yo to an extension that starts in 2011...and make it basically the same deal Soria got from the Royals... (http://mlbcontracts.blogs...ansas-city-royals_28.html change 09 to '11 and so on...) 11:$1M, 12:$3M, 13:$4M, 14:$6M club option, 15:$8M club option, 16:$8.75M club option ($0.75M buyout for each option) I would offer reasonable contracts to PFielder (again), Hardy, try to get Shouse back even if he wants a 2 year deal. If Fielder continues to refuse then Gamel should break out a new glove.
  11. I thought that Bedard was a free agent after having avoided arbitration in '06, '07, and '08...? http://mlbcontracts.blogs.../01/seattle-mariners.html
  12. His Huntsville OBP vs. lefties is nice but vs. the righties lags behind...he has speed enough to steal a few bases...being a rookie is a factor too... Does he lead off if he is the starting Brewer SS in 2009?
  13. One could say that the 3-2, 4-3, 4-2 games of this world did not become unglued because he was pitching...remember some Mota and Gagne games that got outta hand in a hurry...yeah, the opposite of that. Baseball is not played in the lab or in a fishbowl. Stats are great up to a point, but I would no sooner make those points about a game then I would about a jazz concert. Too, too many confounding variables from at bat to at bat let alone a series or a season. Do you overpay or do you take the picks and move on...?
  14. There are confounding variables with a pitcher's win in baseball...this isn't bowling or golf... Is a Jamie Moyer win the same as a CC Sabathia win? If so or if not what is the price tag on that victory and what percentage of payroll is it worth to you? Please operationally define "Replacement level pitcher". I am consfused...Sheets didn't get replaced when CC came on...the whole point of taking on an ace midseason is to get your #5 outta there and your 4, 3, 2, 1 pitchers all move down a step...CC is more than 4 wins better than Seth McClung as a starter and if he is not then A) what did I see this year? B) Why are we even talking about big money for CC?
  15. You know for all this "CC big money" talk, it is pretty interesting that he was viewed as someone only worth 2 additional victories (if you enjoy fancy schmancy stats then you know who you are...) when the trade was being initially debated... Was that a bunch of baloney OR are those 2 additional victories really worth 15-20+million a year spread out over the course of the whole season...something stinks to high heaven...so boys...what is it...?
  16. If CC pitched like CC, played first on his off days like Fielder, and kicked like Gus the mule then...yes, 20+ million on a roster of 80mil would be reasonable. One line of thinking is that once Sheets and CC walk it will be easier to resign oneself to the idea of rebuilding and starting more rooks than just Escobar...this means trading for starting pitching. Do you really want Bush, Suppan, Yo, Parra, and the 3 headed monster of Capuano/CVilla/McC as your opening day rotation?
  17. Then we are out of the conversation in the first ten minutes...sorry for not knowing that specific rule, I didn't follow the Cubs/ARod talk.
  18. CC stays if Mark A gives him a percentage of the ownership--think Lemieux--otherwise the Brewers will be outta the conversation in the first 10 minutes...
  19. Weeks gone, JJ gone, Pena and Escobar 2009, Aguilar and Jeffress 2010 if all goes well...I would like to see Gamel moved and then fast-tracked along with TGreen and Lucroy. Salome I would like to trade for pitching...the sooner the better. I don't believe in his D and I would rather keep some other guys than trade them (right away) for pitching. Gillespie...I just don't feel it...a poor man's CHart for me right now...Cain, not even in my discussion...Some tools but not on the radar.
  20. According to MLBTradeRumors.com this is in the air... Brian Roberts, George Sherrill, and Melvin Mora would add depth for the Brewers, and Roberts gets you two draft picks if he leaves after the season. I personally don't like trading Prince for something that does not involve a top 25 prospect coming back in return...or even trading him this year at all... If Billy Hall was added then that would be something...RWeeks could then pack his bags for Chicago (White Sox). Thoughts?
  21. He gets arby'd and more than likely signs a one year deal for 12 million plus 3 more tied to IP...he might not get 15mil annually elsewhere but might after 2009...
  22. Gallardo/CC/Bush then Yo and CC again... If Sheets can throw an inning at all then it needs to be out of the pen...
  23. Suppan/BHall/Fielder for BMills/Tallet/Cecil PFielder/Suppan for Hughes JJ/Salome for Porcello......fast track Lucroy and Fryer and make Fryer a full time C.
