  1. r.a. dickey signed a minor league contract with the twins and has been invited to spring training as a non-roster player. if the brewers would not have had injuries at catcher in september (prompting the promotion of mike rivera), i'm confident dickey would have had his contract purchased instead.
  2. luther hackman gets a 50-game suspension for a drug violation: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20071030&content_id=2288279&vkey=pr_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  3. brewers.com shows brad nelson on the 40-man roster . . . did they add him? http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/team/roster_40man.jsp?c_id=mil
  4. the padres have released brady clark per foxsports.com.
  5. estrada likely finishes the season with 10 homers and 12 walks (oh so close in winning that "race"). mench has become an on-base machine, with his 16 walks and 8 homers.
  6. there was a headline on jsonline today: "wandering eyes" it made me think of chris capuano and his role in "the young and the restless". taking ned yost's comments about scoreboard watching out of context:
  7. robin yount's wife was due during the 1982 magic. if i recall correctly, she was at the games with an ambulance waiting there in the event she went into labor. there's a funny story about 1982 and my misunderstandings about the facts of life (at age 8). i didn't fully understand the gestation period and thought that robin yount was required to fertilize right before she gave birth (pm me if you want my actual words . . . while lacking slang, they're not necessarily appropriate for this public forum . . . but they're pretty funny). in a nutshell, i was worried that robin yount would have to leave the game to impregnate his wife.
  8. players' wives may tend to give birth during the season, but players' mistresses tend to give birth during the off-season. do the math. for a moment, i thought this topic was about seth mcclung and his experience being a teammate of elijah dukes.
  9. estrada has nine home runs to his twelve walks. mench has seven home runs to his fifteen walks.
  10. i love how the edited subject line of this thread is still appropriate after vargas' activation.
  11. nice . . . real nice. 30 homers from a spring training non-roster player.
  12. i really want a mosquito tag on this thread.
  13. worth bringing forward. from jsonline today:
  14. i'm trying to find the story online to confirm it, but on his first day as a brewer, did not ray king end up helping stranded motorists en route to miller park?
  15. as i posted yesterday, the transaction involving dennis sarfate is confirmed here: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/transactions and here: http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070904&content_id=2188345&vkey=news_mil&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil
  16. with dennis sarfate designated for assignment yesterday, and assuming another team doesn't claim him, what's the earliest he could be available to pitch for the sounds in the playoffs?
  17. currently at 27, ryan braun is likely to hit 30 by regular season's end. is rob deer's 33 a club record for a non-roster player? it'd be wonderful for braun to beat that.
  18. dennis sarfate has been designated for assignment according to foxsports.com to make room for ray king.
  19. it should be noted that if ray king obtains polyjuice potion and a hair from greg aquino, he is eligible (and much preferred) to be on the postseason roster for the brewers.
  20. Are you sure? I thought a DL'd player can only be replaced with a someone a part of the organization on August 31. preface that with, "to be eligible for postseason play," and you're correct. however, a roster spot still needs to be cleared for ray king. transferring a player to the 60-day disabled list is one way to achieve that. another way is for to complete the trade with washington by sending a player currently on the brewers' 40-man roster. another is to outright or release a player currently on the 40-man roster. the brewers have just over 24 hours to make that decision.
  21. it was hinted by doug melvin that r.a. dickey would have his contract purchased after the sounds finished the pacific coast league playoffs . . . now that seems less likely.
  22. one of the two players (king or rivera) are easily added to the 40-man roster by transferring tony graffanino to the 60-day disabled list . . . which has been done, according to brewers.com. (they claim mike rivera's spot is made available by graffanino's removal from the roster.) what are viable options to get a spot for ray king on the roster? could mike jones be put on the 60-day disabled list? could the player to be named be someone off the brewers' 40-man roster? would the brewers try to outright a player or release him unconditionally?
  23. kevin mench has been an on-base machine with his 13 walks to his 7 homers. johnny estrada has 10 walks to his 8 homers. too bad mench can't have more homers than strikeouts (21).
  24. the cardinals acquire the man whose name is often misspelled . . . http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7176474
