  1. hernan perez needs to be added to this list, no?
  2. i'd rather see an optional assignment than an outright assignment . . . especially with the roster at 39.
  3. hernan perez has been designated for assignment. the brewers have seven days to trade, release or try to outright him to the minor leagues. perez has been outrighted before. if he is not claimed by another team, he reserves the right to refuse the minor league assignment and become a free agent. the roster is at 39.
  4. i don't believe it's been mentioned on this thread . . . the brewers have seven days from designating perez to trade, release, or outright him to the minors. it doesn't appear that he was designated for assignment yesterday . . . just probably given the professional courtesy of advance notice. however, the brewers have already outrighted perez to the minors (i had forgotten they did that in 2015, and then selected his contract in april 2016). thus, if he clears waivers, perez reserves the right to refuse the minor league assignment and declare free agency.
  5. to be fair to all teams, i think that the committee deciding the maximum number of pitchers than a club can carry next year on the 26-man roster should establish said maximum before this year's 31 july trading deadline. it sounds like it's going to be 13 pitchers from opening day through 31 august, and 14 pitchers from 1 september until the end of the regular season . . . but nothing has been formally announced.
  6. the way i see it, the brewers have only 54 more games where they are hampered by a 25-man roster. come 1 september, it can expand to 40. and come opening day 2020, it's 26. thus, the brewers really just have to be patient for the next 54 games with aguilar . . .
  7. that's asking for both to go. when would you want shaw to be optioned?
  8. nate orf was outrighted off the major league 40-man roster and is signed to a minor league contract. discussion about his merits in the major leagues should be discussed in the minor league forum.
  9. jhoulys chacin activated and starting tonight. jacob barnes optioned.
  10. rosters expand to 26 next year. most clubs would be willing to stash aguilar on their 25-man for the rest of the season just to get to 2020. if he's struggling like this in 2020 as the brewers' 26th man, then he gets cut.
  11. only two players can be added in september next year--not three. the roster will have already been at 26 for the season. and from all indications, it appears that mlb will cap september expansion at one additional pitcher. and for those who are speculating that clubs can rotate those additional players, one would assume that in order for another player to be recalled and made active, any player would be subject to being placed on optional assignment and meeting a 10 day minimum stay for position players and 15 days for pitchers.
  12. with that 26-man roster, mlb and the mlbpa will be capping the number of pitchers that a club can carry on its active roster from opening day until 31 august. it's been speculated that said limit will be 13 pitchers--which is what the brewers have been carrying for most of the season. thus, the 26th spot opens up in 2020 for an out-of-options position player like jesus aguilar, hernan perez, manny pina or tyler saladino.
  13. remember why jackson was outrighted off the 40-man after being optioned? the guy who replaced him is still on the 40-man and can easily be cut.
  14. i keep reminding myself of roster expansion next year when i question why the brewers continue to bury jesus aguilar on the active roster.
  15. You get 3 option years and they usually start after your 3rd year in the organization. Occasionally some players will get a 4th option year. Anytime a player is optioned to the minors they use one of their 3 options. Keep in mind once a player is optioned during a year they can bounce back and forth without using an additional options. Hiura should have 2 options left, the same as Shaw, as he was on a rehab assignment and wasn't optioned. to clarify, a player doesn't qualify for optional assignment until he's added to the 40-man roster. most players put in at least a few years of minor league service before a club chooses to add them to their 40-man roster. a player does not burn his option if he spends fewer than 20 days optioned to the minor leagues in a season. thus, when jimmy nelson is activated for tomorrow's game, it is possible that it may be for good and he'll finish out his season on the 25-man roster (or major league injured list). if that happens, nelson will not burn his option this year, despite having been optioned in 2019.
  16. aaron wilkerson continues to shine for san antonio. 7.0 innings of shutout, 1-hit ball last night. 0.46 era and opponents hitting just .135 against him.
  17. two strikeouts in four at-bats last night. and let's not forget that he had 25 strikeouts and zero walks in 52 spring training at-bats this year.
  18. two games in, and shaw has struck out three times in nine appearances at the plate. one hit. one of his strikeouts was yesterday with the bases loaded and one out.
  19. advantage to tuesday: he doesn't have to hit or run the bases in minneapolis. given that his injury occurred after putting the ball in play, the club should give him a bye on that aspect of the game and just allow him to focus on his pitching. also, allows the club to boost his confidence and give him a longer leash by not having to pull him for a pinch hitter because of a scoring opportunity.
  20. technically, gomez had his contract selected. only players on the major league roster on optional assignment can be recalled. gomez was on a minor league contract.
  21. cory spangenberg cleared waivers and was outrighted to san antonio.
  22. on saturday, cory spangenberg cleared waivers and was outrighted to san antonio.
  23. manny pina placed on the injured list with hamstring discomfort. the brewers have recalled jacob nottingham, choosing him over the better performing david freitas. it should be noted that nottingham has caught most of the brewers' pitchers before. freitas lacks that experience.
  24. keston hiura has his contract selected and has three minor league options intact. travis shaw to the 10-day injured list. cory spangenberg has been designated for assignment. the brewers have seven days to trade, release or outright spangenberg to the minors. spangenberg has not been outrighted to the minor leagues before, so if he clears waivers, he will be forced to accept the minor league assignment. the roster remains at capacity.
  25. the brewers have seven days to trade, release or outright spangenberg to the minors. spangenberg has not been outrighted to the minor leagues before, so if he clears waivers, he will be forced to accept the minor league assignment.
