  1. gio gonzalez making news. he's fired scott boras and his opt-out with the yankees is today. he's likely going to request a promotion to the major league roster or to be released. the yankees have 48 hours to respond.
  2. in 10 days, the brewers will have to make a decision on josh fields. they'll be five days into a 13-game stretch without a scheduled off day, so that may factor in their decision. even if the brewers opt to not select his contract, fields can opt to stay with the team until his next opt-out date of 25 june.
  3. the brewers still have seven more games after this one before an off day. now is not the time to try to insert a reliever like chase anderson into the rotation, who will likely be unable to give you a deep start, and end up burning through your bullpen. adrian houser has been stretched out as a starter in the minors for three starts, and he's pitching quite well there. given the scheduling, he should get the shot.
  4. with nine more games to play without an off day, i'm thinking this is more and more likely. i'd bring up aaron wilkerson (last pitched friday) and option freddy peralta. when it's peralta's turn in the rotation, wilkerson down for adrian houser for at least one start. peralta could be recalled to pitch 26 april in new york. swapping petricka for jeffress makes sense as well.
  5. he has not burned any of his options, so it gives the club roster flexibility if they opt to select his contract.
  6. his 2017 transactions listed on mlb.com are a bit puzzling. a player cannot be recalled unless his contract is selected first. there's nothing from 2017 that shows he was added to the 40-man roster prior to making the braves' 25-man roster on 30 august 2017. from what i can see on mlb.com, he should just be about to burn his second option in 2019.
  7. three starts in for houser, and he's been impressive. 18 strikeouts and just two walks in 16.1 innings . . . 1.10 era and 0.73 whip.
  8. david freitas acquired from seattle for a minor leaguer and optioned to san antonio. it appears that freitas will be burning his second option in just a matter of days if he remains optioned. corey knebel moved to the 60-day injured list. the 40-man remains at capacity.
  9. the brewers have acquired catcher david freitas from seattle for minor leaguer sal biasi. freitas has been optioned to san antonio. it appears that he will burn his second option in a matter of days. corey knebel has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.
  10. he's heading to milwaukee today.
  11. 6.1 innings of two-hit ball from wilkerson last night. 0.79 era and 0.62 whip through two starts.
  12. three games with the designated hitter starting tonight, an off-day thursday, and from all indications, the club will still be carrying a 13-man pitching staff.
  13. nice performance today from wilkerson. 10 strikeouts and one walk in 5.0 innings. i know he's probably at the bottom of the depth chart to replace a starting pitcher, but if the brewers are truly looking for ways to limit the innings of corbin burnes, freddy peralta and brandon woodruff to 2019, he might not be a bad option to consider from time to time--especially if jimmy nelson is unable to return to form.
  14. moustakas is getting the start at third tonight.
  15. i don't see any news of donnie hart having been designated for assignment by the dodgers, so presumably, up until today, he has been in oklahoma city prepping with the dodgers' affiliate--where the missions also happen to be right now. i would think he'd be in uniform for san antonio tonight.
  16. donnie hart claimed off waivers and optioned to san antonio. if hart spends more than 20 days optioned this year, he will burn his final option. bobby wahl transferred to the 60-day injured list. the 40-man remains at capacity.
  17. if hart spends 20 days optioned to the minor leagues, he will burn his final option.
  18. san antonio rotation has been set: adrian houser bubba derby zack brown aaron wilkerson burch smith houser and wilkerson are on the 40-man. i think it's wise to keep a few days between them as it assures that one of the two will likely be rested in the event of an injury at the major league level.
  19. starting next year, only position players can be placed on the 10-day injured list. pitchers will be required to spend a minimum of 15 days on the injured list (excluding concussions). hence, the 15-day injured list will be brought back.
  20. adrian houser gets the opening day start for aaa san antonio.
  21. jake petricka optioned to san antonio. if he spends more than 20 days down, he will burn his second option.
  22. insight on how the brewers view their utility depth? they brought spangenberg to montreal to close out the exhibition season and not tyler saladino.
  23. alex wilson major league deal is official. wilson appears to be out of minor league options. erik kratz is traded for a minor leaguer to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for wilson. the 40-man remains at capacity.
  24. erik kratz was told that he will not be traveling with the team to montreal.
  25. now that the deal is official, has a corresponding move on the 40-man been announced?
