  1. So RR is just supposed to say Yuni sucks in public? I am sure he and the coaching staff along with Melvin have discussed Yuni and his recent slump. They probably figure that until Weeks can come back they don't have any other option than to hope Yuni can hit himself out of his slump. Wilson is obviously not the answer; neither is Counsell. So long as Weeks is out; Hairston isn't an option either. Obviously it remains to be seen what they will do at SS when Weeks comes back and if they even view Hairston as a legitimate option at SS. With Gomez set to resume is portion of the CF platoon and Rickie to his full time duty at 2B; the only place Hairston could ever play is 3rd or SS; so I am hoping he will get time at SS. I don't know that RR has ever publicy criticized a player; that is just his thing. He isn't an idiot for talking up Yuni and his other players to the media. Fans have to be idiots to think the RR and Melvin don't know that he is struggling and they haven't explored other alternatives.
  2. One other thing to consider. If we do happen to catch Philly because they start losing a bit there is a decent chance that ATL could catch them as well. If ATL catches them then PHI is in the wild card spot. I would much rather host ATL in the 1st round than I would PHI. So if we catch PHI , ATL better lose as well.
  3. I would think a prerequisite for an endorsement deal is an ability to actually speak in public. I don't think Fielder is ever going to get much in the way of endorsements just for that reason. He has been a great player for 6 years in MIL and that has led to squat in the way of endorsements around here; I doubt that changes.
  4. I have my best tickets of the year for the last Sunday game against the Marlins. I am afraid that the lineup for that game is just going to be painful. Thankfully for the Phils they will be able to bring up some additional bullpen help in Sep; otherwise they might be fried by the time October gets here. Catching the Phils is still extremely unlikely; I think the goal should be to break the all time Brewers win record.
  5. Yeah this is all sorts of weird. I assume no one has actually asked Prince about it? If there was some sort of contract in place it seems increbily unlikley that someone in the Front Office didn't leak something. But then again no one knew about Braun's extension until they announced it either. Something weird is definitely going on. Prince has spoken multiple times about loving the team this year and it would seem very out of character to pull these shenanigans right now.
  6. I think team were smart enough to not waste their time on Berkman. STl would have asked for an outrageous return for only about 6 weeks of Berkman. Teams probably just decided to not waste their time. I really don't see what the big deal is here. Sure we could have blocked him from Philly; but every GM in the NL probably knew there was about a 1% chance of him leaving STL and didn't bother even trying.
  7. I don't get all the hype around this storm; its only a Category 1/2. The media is makling it sound like Katrina and NYC is going to fall into the ocean. I don't want underestimate the power of even a Category 1, but this storm seems be overblown only because of the region effected.
  8. Probably about a 0% chance of that happening. He will be a pinch hitter type and will probably gets some starts after the Brewers clinch. I am not expecting any more than that Yuni is the far bigger problem right now IMO and I don't know that they have an easily solution for that problem. I am skeptical that Hairston will shift to SS when Ricke comes back.
  9. I guess I freaked out over nothing then. My dehumidifer has run almost non stop for the last 2 months. For some reason I thought that hot stretch was earlier in July. I know it was hot but last summer I never came close to that figure. Whats bugging me today is that I have training for my job from October 9-11. This training goes into the night so I may be forced to miss the Brewers in the NLCS if they make it that far. And I don't have a DVR.
  10. I think it is asking an awful lot of Gamel to expect an .850 OPS in Year #1 as a full time starter. I was thinking more like .750 If he had Gamel starting all year this year with a .750 OPS would we be anywhere near the position we are right now? If the downgrade from Prince to Gamel is really only 4 games over the course of the year we would be sitting pretty.
  11. I honestly don't think any team would be stupid enough to offer Prince a 8-10 year deal. Not to say that it won't happen but I would be very suprised. I give it about a 1% chance that an NL team would sign Fielder for 8 years, an AL might be more willing to take that risk. I think a 6 year deal is more likely to happen than an 8. I think Fielder ends up signing for 6 or possibly 7 years at an AAV of $23-$25 Million. So that is a minimum of 6/138 and a maximum of 7/175 but probably somewhere in between. 6/138 would really be pushing MIL's budget; there would almost certainly have to be some deferred money involved
  12. Do you really need to ask? Big difference between your #5 hitter bunting with Yuni on deck than your #9 hitter bunting with Hart on deck. thanks ron, now get back to mis-managing the game Whats with the snarky condescension?
  13. Do you really need to ask? Big difference between your #5 hitter bunting with Yuni on deck than your #9 hitter bunting with Hart on deck.
  14. Well we got the guy on we need; can Prince turn around a 97 MPH fastball?
  15. Dodgers are pasting the Cards again. I think they hace packed it in. Is anyone gotten to the point yet where these games have been kind of "Blahhh" in anticipation of the playoffs? I mean we have a 99% chance of making the playoffs according to accuscore and it looks like we are pretty much locked into the #2 spot (Being 6+ games ahead of the ARI right now) against ATL, and we still have next to no chance of getting the #1 seed. The playoffs should just get here already. While these games aren't completely meaningless yet they might as well be. I am just not hanging on every win and loss now like I was 3 weeks ago.
  16. Brewers haven't been good in midweek day games all season. I look forward to following these games on Gameday at work and almost every time they lose.
  17. I had no problem with the bunt there. I'll take 2nd and 3rd with only one out and top of the order every day of the week if the worst case of alternative (Swinging away) being a DP with a run scoring and no one left on base. I think the odds of Marcum screwing up the bunt are far smaller than him screwing up swinging away.
  18. Today is going be one of those frustrating days; I can feel it.
  19. It sure seems like we strand runners on 3rd with less than 2 outs an awful lot.
  20. I am trying to figure out how I used 200 more Kilowatts of Electricty this past month than I have ever used since I bought my house. I only rarely have used the AC in the last 2 weeks; how the heck could I have used so much electricity? When was that super hot stretch? My bill goes back to July 20th. Even if the hot stretch was during this current bill; the huge increase in usage still doesn't make much sense to me given the lack of AC use in the last 2 weeks. If it is this high again next month I suppose I will have to call Alliant Energy to complain about a faulty meter. I am sure that conversation will go well.
  21. I am getting more optimistic by the day regarding Fielder. MLBTraderumors has a post up today saying the Nationals are not going to pursue Fielder and they had a post the other day listing the reasons there might not be a whole lot of teams involved. I know it is mostly speculation but there seems to be a perfect storm of circumstances building that would allow Fielder to stay in MIL. If Fielder does stay; it will set off a huge chain of events that would likely include the Brewers trying to shed salary in other areas (With Hart, Wolf, McGehee (before he gets expensive) being the obvious candidates to be traded. They would have to shed some salary if they wanted to keep Marcum and/or Grienke around. The good news is if Fielder does sign we have capable replacements for Hart (Schaefer/Gindl/Gamel/Etc), Wolf (Peralta), and McGehee (Green) if we wanted to get rid of them plus I would have to imagine we could get a decent return for those guys as well.
  22. The obvious major question marks going into next year are the bullpen and 1st base. If we do lose Prince could we make up for it with a league average 1st basemen and improved performances at 3rd and SS? How much is Mark A really willing to throw at Prince? Could we package Narveson & Hart for a SS or 1B, slide Green in at 3rd, Peralta as the 5th starter, and Gamel in RF (Assuming an entire spring training in RF would make him suitable to play out there) Could we trade Wolf to free up some room to resign Prince? We have to replace a large chunk of the bullpen; only Axford and Loe are locks to be back although I am sure Estrada has a leg up on the long man role again. A ton of questions going into next year; but the good news is we could have the entire rotation of a 2010 playoff team back and will likely be able to improve SS and 3rd almost by default.
  23. In all fairness, we did take 2 of 3 from Philly on the road in April and nearly swept them. We also played NYY and BOS on the road and we clearly aren't the same team on the road as we were in June. If we had to play those teams again right now I would be pretty confident we could split.
  24. I have a hard time believing the Red Sox or Yankees are going to go hard after fielder. They both have a good 1st basemen already and more than a couple aging veterans that are DH's now or will be shortly. Both the Yankees and Red Sox have far more pressing concerns than offense anyways. They both need pitching although NY much more so. I think it comes down to the Orioles, Nationals, Giants, Cubs, and Brewers with the Blue Jays being a darkhorse.
