  1. Outside of one game, he's been pretty bad, even lately. Refusing to give Gamel and Green any playing time is going to be a decision that effects the team beyond this year. Now next year, while we still have Greinke and Marcum, we will have to break two rookies into everyday starting roles (assuming McGehee isn't the longterm plan at 3B which I certainly hope he's not). But if you are going to break a rookie in doesn't it makes more sense to give them the job out of Spring Training instead in a pennant race? I would have been OK if Gamel & Green started getting MLB ab's a couple months ago but I don't know how much sense it makes anymore. Things are goimg good right now; Melvin and RR are not going to want to mess with that. I am assume they will both be September call ups and I doubt they get 5 starts combined for the whole month unless the Brewers clinch early with a near zero chance of making a postseason roster (They have to be in MLB on 8/31 to be eligible right? I agree with everyone else that I hope McGehee is not in the long term plans. Best case scenario is that he has a hot last 7 weeks and we can sell high on him. It seems pretty likely that we will have new starters at 3 of the 4 IF positions next year; it should be interesting to see how it gets sorted out
  2. It looks like there is a good chance of this reaching 38 tonight.
  3. RR is a genius http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif The guy is pulling a lot of good strings right now though. I just figured out something really freaky. These are four of the head coaches for major sports teams in WI Ron Roenicke Mike McCarthy Brett Bielema Scott Skiles Weird
  4. It seems everything the Brewers touch turns to gold right now. Great performance by Estrada and the bullpen. I guess going with Estrada instead of De La Cruz paid off!!!
  5. Yeah that won't hold up; too much money to lose that way. I wish Jeff Suppan would have retired in the middle of his contract because he sucked so bad
  6. Is it really that hard to run 90 feet and step on a base without hurting yourself? Sounds like it is only minor but I am sure RR will try to get him a couple days off
  7. You could even trade Narveson for a useful SS and plug in Peralta there too.
  8. Grienke is trying real hard to make sure that bullpen is fresh for tomorrow
  9. Manny Parra is basically the current version of JDLR. Parra has all the potential in the world but hasn't put it together and lprobably isn't in the Brewers plans going forward. IMO Melvin has earned a reputation of being a very good trading GM; but when it comes to FA and extensions he has made a number of mistakes. The amount of talent he has brought in via trade has been tremendous and he has done an awesome job of finding diamonds in the rough but his free agency signing have left a lot to be desired outside of a couple signing. But back to Lawrie, I think he will be a very good player; probably not a perennial all star but will get there every once in a while. He'll get to hit in quite a few hitter friendly ball parks too. Who knows where he will end up defensively. It is cool to dream about Lawrie on the Brewers next year though. Still happy we got Marcum.
  10. Nope. And I feel the same way about Betancourt, Kotsay, and Counsell too. Phillies - No Way; don't like our stars in that match up either Atlanta - Maybe; the ATL starters aren't as dominant and have had some injury issues of late; who knows what their rotation will look like in the playoffs The playoffs is a whole different ballgame; it is probably pretty unlikely that Kotsay would get even one start in the playoffs unless someone was hurt. McGehee and Yuni probably will be out there every day. If Weeks comes back Counsell will strictly be a pinch hitter and/or defensive replacement. The role of the role players usually get reduced in the playoffs I think.
  11. When was the last time the Brewers traded a prospect who turned out to be a star? By my count Melvin has traded a prospect who turned out to be a star exactly once (Nelson Cruz) since he took over and I don't think it would be fair to criticize Melvin for trading Cruz given the state of the farm system & team at that time. The Sabathia guys have been Ok big leaguers to the point, the Linebrink guys have amounted to almost nothing, the verdict is still out on Grienke but the way things are going I am not sure there is a star in the group. Melvin seems to do a good job of selling high on prospects. I think Melvin has gotten burned exactly once in his history as a GM in Milwaukee; McClung for Balfour. You could maybe argue the Lee/Cruz trade for Cordero and company could be added to that list as well. Even then he picked up Cruz for next to nothing from OAK if I recall.
  12. Can we stop with the DPR? No one even knows what it means. The Brewers are very good but I what I consider a special team is something the Brewers just can't become. Not that they can't go on a run and win the World Series but The Red Sox and Philles are "Special Teams". Brewers aren't at that level
  13. Weren't going to keep Pujols down forever; Gallardo doesn't have it tonight
  14. Don't you think you are going a little over the top in your criticisms of everything? I don't want to sounds rude but you have had it in for the guy from Day #1 and find any excuse to rail on him.
  15. Nothing is ever good enough is it? RR & Melvin have put together a team that has the 5th best record in baseball behind NYY, BOS, PHI, and ATL and we are still complaining about minor leaguers who may or may not be good major leaguers not getting called up? You really think if we would be starting Green at 3rd since June and somehow find a place to play Gamel that that would result in a 5 win improvement? I like De La Cruz but he is maybe marginally better than Estrada at this point. RR thinks Estrada can go 4 or 5 innings, our bullpen got a break yesterday; Gallardo will probably be good for 6-7 tonight; our bullpen should be find for tomorrow especially with De La Cruz in the bullpen. I thought it made sense to start De La Cruz; but a good argument can be made for Estrada as well.
  16. RR is not sitting his best player two games after an off day against our chief competition in the division just for the heck of it. There is something else behind it. RR never just sits Prince, he very rarely gave Weeks any days off. He is definitely covering something. RR has done an incredible job of keeping the team playing at a very high leve for a long timel, I trust him at this point to sit the guys when they need to be sat.
  17. The way Braun has looked the last couple days I don't mind that RR is sitting him. He certainly hasn't been his usual self. You could argue the lineup order is messed up but I guess it isn't that big of a deal to me. Hart seems to like batting 3rd and there just aren't that many viable options for the #3 spot. The way things are rolling right now just leaving the lineup the same except subbing Kotsay for Braun seems like an OK idea to me.
  18. Narveson is going to have a competition for that #5 spot next year. Might also make him expendable via trade. Brewers pitching prospects don't look to bad if Peralta continues to progress for a 2012 callup and Thornburg for 2013. Neither are probably #1 starters but both could be very useful and could compliment Gallardo and possible Marcum and/or Grienke quite well
  19. Lawrie looked like a crazy person in that highlight. Obviously he is off to a great start but he is going to give himself a heart attack
  20. How about that Jeffrey Hammonds bobblehead doll as a reminder of how far the lineup has come!! That Counsell bobblehead is still coming up. Haven't quite escaped the crappy bobblehead player days
  21. That was a pretty lifeless game by the Cards. I am happy about a 5 game lead but I jeez I still am not all that comfortable. I guess the no division titles in 30 years thing will do that to you.
  22. I think you are being a little over dramatic here. The bullpen has been in great shape for a long time now. Both Ax and Krod can go 3 days in a row and 70% effort bullpen tosses don't affect Axford's availability at all
  23. Yeah we have to take advantage of that lineup now. I am confident we will get runs off of Westbrook but Wolf just scares me (Really for no logical reason)
