  1. Record 68-94 Team MVP: Santana Home Runs: Carter (37) Wins: Nelson (13) Bold Predictions: One of Chris Carter or Domingo Santana makes the All Star team. Gennet ends up being not uber-terrible against lefties, Aaron Hill is released before July
  2. I don't really care if the Brewers are expected to suck; opening day and baseball season are awesome. Hoping for some surprises at the big league level and continued improvement in the minors. I am really looking forward to the seasons for Lucroy and Santana. Lucroy is obvious, the better season he has the better the team will be in the long run from a trade. As for Santana I hope he can become a borderline star that can make an All Star game or two. Based on Spring Training the pitching is going to be a trainwreck but I'll hope for the best. It will be a nice cold tailgate this morning
  3. I was thinking about asking some of the same questions. We bought a new house and would love to start a garden but a combination of rabbits, deer, chipmunks, and squirrels has me wondering if anything I plant has a chance of surviving. Keeping rabbits and deer out is a lot easier than squirrels and chipmunks. No fencing will do there. Good idea on the mesh at ground level to keep the borrowing critters out.
  4. Syracuse and UNC can both suck it if you ask me. Boeheim is a turd who cheated and UNC is a sham school where there athletes took classes that weren't really classes. Got nothing against Villanova except that they play Oklahoma and my wallet very much wants Oklahoma to win the NC.
  5. Clark has the potential to be a lot higher on that list in about 3 months; I am hoping he can at least show some decent power even if it isn't HR power. Coulter I am not sure about, maybe getting out of Brevard will help him.
  6. 1 or 2 of this year's freshman should probably redshirt next year if Pritzl and Van Vliet are as advertised. It seems to me that one of Illikainen and Thomas should redshirt for sure. Illikainen seems like the most logical one; he really only played out of necessity this year and for the most part was very overmatched. Thomas at least has the body already and use his strength down low.
  7. 1. Orlando Arcia 2. Jorge Lopez 3. Brett Phillips 4. Trent Clark 5. Josh Hader 6. Gilbert Lara 7. Jacob Nottinhgam 8. Kodi Medeiros 9. Clint Coulter 10. Isan Diaz 11. Cody Ponce 12. Devin Williams 13.Monte Harrison 14. Demi O 15 Zach davies 16. Marcos Diplan 17. Nathan Kirby 18. Tyrone Taylor 19. Jacob Gatewood 20. Adrian Houser 21. Wei Chung Wang 22. Troy Stokes 23. Javier Betancourt 24. Damien Magnifico 25. Victor Roache
  8. I am over it already. Tough loss but they will come back strong next year. Its not like the team would have had a prayer against UNC anyways. The thing that bugs me the most is immediately after the Brown 3 UW just let ND waltz down and get an uncontested layup. If they can get one lousy stop there the game is probably over. Do anything other than just give up an easy 2. Anyways I have Oklahoma over Villanova and UNC over Syracuse. Virginia and Tony Bennett really crapped the bed the last 10 minutes; far worse than Bucky. It was a 1 vs 10 and the 1 completely blew it and tightened up. Brogdon had a horrible game. Not sure who I would take between UNC and Oklahoma. If Heild and Oklahoma shoots like they have been I don't think anyone can beat them but they are playing in a football stadium which may make outside shooting harder. If that ends up being the case it is a big advantage to UNC.
  9. The refs didn't decided that game. They had a ridiculous amount of turnovers plus a bunch of other stuff. 1. Immediately after the Brown 3 they let ND score. What maybe 4 seconds 2. In bounds play Nigel could have just held the ball if he wanted. We had timeouts and possession. Instead he tried stepping through basically a triple team and really started losing the ball before a potential foul happened. Plus Koenig was open on the inbounds and I feel better about him making FT's then Nigel. 3. Koenig missed what should have been a go ahead lay up. It was contested but he should have made it 4. Even though ND was trying to foul Koenig before the last shot, I found that Koenig was pretty lackadaisical bring it up the court anyways. Plus it wasn't a guarantee that with 1.5 seconds left or whatever that we would have tied it up. They certainly wouldn't have let Koenig take the last 3. All in all it was a good season. They progressed a ton and made it farther than most people could have hoped. They should be even better next year with improvement from everybody plus Pritzl and Van Vliet. Maybe Hayes wants to get paid in Europe, that is his prerogative. But I think the team could still be really good without him.
  10. Real smart FDL School District. Slushy & icy roads plus continuing snow, ice, and rain all day. Lets have a bunch of 16-18 year olds drive in this. Brilliant.
  11. Lucroy was hurt at the end of the year. It is completely reasonable to expect other teams offers to be pretty weak at this point. They might not want to give up the farm for a guy who had what would be considered a major concussion (Morneau anyone). I would absolutely expect the offers to improve considerably by the all star break if Lucroy is putting up a good year. Plus all it takes is one major catcher injury for a contending team for the package to improve as well. I am fine hanging onto Lucroy until he proves he is healthy to the world.
  12. I am right on the cutoff of 6-8 and 8-12 so I am just gong to go with 8. Heavy wet stuff too which will be just a joy to clear off the driveway. My snow blower doesn't have the most horsepower in the world. It will take some time to clear 8 inches of wet snow.
  13. FDL is squarely in that 6-12 inch range. Hoping for closer to 6 but at least the crap will melt pretty quickly.
  14. UW is the only team to make 5 Sweet Sixteen's in the last 6 years. Even with the tourney still going on its really hard not to get excited about how awesome they could be next year. All the freshman have another offseason to get better plus they add Pritzl and Van Vliet who have more offensive ability than any other bench player right now. It will be a senior heavy team next year too which is always a positive.
  15. Hell of a game by UW last night. I thought for sure they were done when they got down by 9 with 6 minutes or so to go. Koenig and Happ just willed the team to get back in it and of course Koenig had the ice in his veins for the last 2 shots. Notre Dame is a very winnable game if you ask me; of course they could lose though. I feel better going into that game than going into Xavier. Amazing they are in the Sweet 16 after where they started this year. Also amazing they were able to beat a good team like Xavier with Hayes continuing to struggle mightily. He put up a good effort on defense and on the boards but his shot is really broke right now. Happ is already really good; I can't even really think how good he could be 3 years from now. Hopefully he continues to improve.
  16. Got Oklahoma, Wichita St, West Virginia, and Texas Tech at my auction last night. Go Big 12!!!!
  17. I think you are pretty nuts taking AZ to the Elite 8. They just haven't looked good whenever I watch them. I agree that Villanova is going nowhere fast but I would rather take Miami or Wichita St / Vandy to the Elite 8 than Arizona.
  18. I am pretty sure one of Kansas and MSU is not going to make it; something crazy will happen. Unfortunately for me I am not sure which one that is. MSU playing in Chicago is such a monumental advantage. They will basically have home court. But Virginia and Purdue could both beat them and maybe Utah could. Kansas will run into Maryland or Cal which are both very talented. If they get by that game I don't see anyone on the bottom 1/2 of that bracket beating them. I think OK will make the Final 4. I think they have a relatively easy road to the Elite 8; I don't buy Texas A&M at all. I have WV out of the East but that is the death bracket were about 5 different teams could potentially make it out.
  19. Just look at WV's schedule. They have played a lot of really good teams and won a lot of them. They gave Kansas all they could handle. If they run into a team that has an incredible backcourt they could have trouble but I don't see that in the East. They certainly count on the press a lot but I think their half court offense is a lot better this year than it has been in the past. Very balanced. UW would really struggle with that press. They don't have the ball handlers or the really strong shooters or finishers on the break. If they did break the press they wouldn't have much time to run the swing either.
  20. I thin UW got a reasonable draw. They are better than Pitt and they have a fighting chance against Xavier. Out of all the 2 seeds they are the weakest IMO. Everybody and their mom is picking Michigan St. IDK maybe it just seem to obvious. Virginia did get screwed over having to play in the Chicago regional against primarily Midwest competition including MSU and Purdue. My very preliminary picks are Kansas (Region just looks easy), Oklahoma (IMO toss up between OK, Oregon, and A&M. I will probably flip), Virginia, and West Virginia.
  21. The Shedd aquarium was a pretty big disappointment for us. For as much as that place is hyped it was kind of a let down; my kids were bored. Plus it was a pain in the butt to get too. Kids absolutely loved the Brookfield Zoo though; awesome.
  22. NBC Sports has them as an 8 with Kansas in Round #2. Ouch CBS Sports has them as an 8 with Kansas in Round #2. Ouch ESPN has them as a 7 with Oregon in Round 2. I'll take that Yahoo has them as a 7 seed. I think UW could do anything from being knocked out in the 1st Round Ala Ole Miss a few years back to maybe an Elite 8. A Final 4 run would be incredibly unexpected. Truthfully I expect them to win the opening round and then get beat. That really isn't all that disappointing given all the question marks going into this season.
  23. Harper made some good comments. It is weird that celebrating is frowned upon in only baseball. In every other sport you are really free to show as much emotion as you want and no one really gives a crap. Baseball is kind of weird that way and I don't understand why that is. Not all baseball since everything I have seen or heard from the Latin American leagues makes me believe it is more accepted outside of this country.
