  1. NFL does that; the Packers received a big amount from NFL corporate to help finance the latest Lambeau Field renovation.
  2. $3 Million is not going to hurt you either way. It isn't such a large commitment that RR and DM will need to stick with him if he isn't that good. This has potential to be a pretty nice signing; even if it doesn't work out I think the Crew has quite a bit of depth they can go to. Getting his 2013 production for $3 Million would be pretty fantastic.
  3. $220 Million really isn't a lot of money either. Private sources contributing well over 50% of the project cost certainly should mean something when this is debated in the legislature. This new arena will very likely have no financial impact on anyone in the state and Milwaukee hopefully benefits substantially. I still have my doubts that's this arena will spur some kind of downtown renewal but its at least worth a shot. I haven't gone to a Bucks game in ages but I could have said the same thing about the Brewers when Miller Park was built. This could change that; obviously along with continued improvement on the court.
  4. Not to mention that our apparently terrible farm system has continually provided good talent that other teams have wanted when the Brewers have dabbled in the trade market. I am not going to be too worried about these preseason rankings; I have a feeling by the time July and August comes around; the system will magically start climbing pretty rapidly in these rankings. The quality of our low level prospects is about as high as it has ever been and we will have 3 fairly advanced prospects in Coulter, Taylor, and Arcia who could easily climb up ranking with strong seasons. Hopefully Arcia doesn't wear down in 2015 after a seemingly endless winter ball season.
  5. Its one thing to be interested in Moncada and believe he's worth paying $100 Million for; its quite another to actually have $100 Million to do it. I for one don't think the Brewers have anywhere near that amount of cash laying around. Mark A would be nuts to take money out of his other businesses to fund this too; talk about a very likely poor return on investment.
  6. I would be upset of Lopez were to be part of the deal. I would rather it be something like Roache and Reed. It sure looks likes Roache won't amount to anything; so try to trade him while someone still thinks he has value (Although that might have been last offseason).
  7. Watching all of this pre-Super Bowl stuff is painful. The Packers should be there.
  8. As long as its a 1 year deal bring back Krod is fine. Even if we suck we hopefully have 3 or 4 other guys that could close including Broxton, Jeffress, and Henderson. The HR rate is concerning; hopefully that doesn't get any worse next year. Everything else still looks pretty strong for Krod.
  9. Krod is a wife beater; Gallardo got a DUI, there are probably others that I can't think of. The point is that Papelbon may have an abrasive personality but he has done less to deserve the turd label than Krod or Gallardo.
  10. With the talent the Brewers have on the field; their offense should be one of the better ones in the National League. If we get Papelbon I would be pretty confident overall in the bullpen. The question mark is with the rotation obviously; while I wouldn't call it a bad rotation it is one with a fair amount of question marks. If we can build a lot of depth in the bullpen that would help cover up some deficiencies in the rotation.
  11. I still don't see a team willing to trade for him if we're out of the race unless we pick up even more money. I just don't see the reason to do this. It doesn't make us a contender. We won't get a lot back prospect wise if the team sucks and we decide to trade him, so why bother wasting the money and possible prospects now? If Papelbon is having a good year in 2015; you don't think there would be teams interested in 1.5 years of Papelbon for a market or even below market annual salary of $8-$10 Million? I think there would be a pretty good market actually.
  12. Trading a $8-$10 Million a year closer at the all star break who is under contract for 1.5 years is a pretty darn good fall back if for whatever reason the Brewers aren't competitive in 2015.
  13. I am guessing Philly will pitch in $4 Million a year. I would be willing to pay more of the salary if it means we have to give up a lesser prospect. End of the world it is still only a 2 year commitment and he was pretty damn good last year. Even some decline and he is still very good.
  14. Brewers are on his no trade list. Doesn't rule out a trade; but Papelbon will have to want to come here. I am guessing he would waive it since it appears he really just wants to get out of Philly.
  15. If you can get Papelbon's annual salary down to $8 Million or so this would seem like a really solid move; obviously depending on what kind of talent the Brewers would have to give up. I don't think it would be a ton; but Philly going to be looking for something decent. Papelbon, Broxton, Jeffress, Smith, Kintzler, Thornburg, and Henderson is a really good group of arms albeit right handed heavy. Melvin should just go nuts and try to get Hamels along with Papelbon. Only half joking.
  16. Guy on a Philly forum says he wants Harrison or Lopez for Papelbon. Lopez maybe but Harrison isn't going anywhere. I wouldn't even want to give up Lopez.
  17. Unless the Phillies give us about 10-12 million and we don't give up anything if real significance this doesn't make any sense. Papelbon on a 2/16 contract is actually pretty good. But if you give up substantial talent it would be horrible when guys like Krod and Soriano are still out there. Much like Krod he has lost some velocity but still managed to have a very strong year. I wouldn't be completely opposed but entirely depends on the deal. Philly needs to pick up salary and none of our top 10 prospects better be leaving.
  18. Orlando had a SLG of .392 last year and Sardinas has never matched that in the minors yet is power tools is considered average and Arcia well below average. Sardinas has a total of 73 extra base hits from 2010-2014 in the minors. Arcia in just 2013 and 2014 had 61. I understand the higher power ranking at the time was probably due to projectability; but Arcia has shown more power to date in the minors
  19. It boggles my mind that any team would be willing to essentially pay $100 Million for a 19 year old kid. Its not like he has a track record against really good competition like Dice K for example. Paying that kind of money for this kid would be a pretty huge gamble.
  20. January 2015 Weather >>>>>>>>>> January 2014 Weather. This winter has been really nice so far. There was only really a week of cold weather and we haven't gotten virtually any snow. No big snow storms at all. Knocks on Wood.
  21. Anchorman was one of my favorite movies once upon a time. I haven't thought to change it in a while; probably because I haven't seen a movie in the theatre since Anchorman. Kids will do that to you I guess.
  22. Baez was a strikeout machine last year and looked pretty terrible. He along with these other guys really need to prove it. However Bryant looks like a Ryan Braun can't miss type of guy right now. He was just nuts last year. The key for the Cubs is going to be the pitching. They have enough ammo in the lineup; but they are still a little short on arms I think even with Lester. Their starting rotation is entirely unimpressive right now. My guess is some of their more esteemed hitting prospects will get traded to get the pitching they need. They don't have any surefire pitching prospects breaking down the door.
  23. Dumb question here. What made Sardinas a consensus top 100 player going into 2014 and Arcia wasn't? By all accounts both are very good with the glove. Neither player did much with the bat in 2013; they are roughly the same age. What gives, is Sardinas strictly more projectable? Going into 2014 you would think Arcia would be the higher ranked of the two.
  24. Nelson I could see matching Gallardo but perhaps in 2016, not 2015. It was great he got some experience in last year but just watching him pitch he is going to need more time. But as a 5th starter he should be fine. He needs to get deeper into games. I really like our front 3 with Garza, Lohse, and Peralta. Both Fiers and Nelson at the 4/5 are a little more questionable but certainly have the ability to be pretty good. The bullpen has a ton of really good righties to choose from with Broxton, Jeffress, Kintzler, Knebel, Thornburg, and Henderson. Smith is the only lefty and I imagine DM will get a couple scrap heap loogies for spring training. The bullpen really doesn't look to bad but it would help a ton if Henderson and Thornburg can come in healthy.
  25. What's with the hesitancy with Jungmann? He was pretty darn good last year. His K/9 ratio was nearly 9; his H/9 was less than 9, and he cut down on his walks from the year before. I think we could do far worse for a 6th starter.
