  1. He probably couldn't be as bad as he was against LH in 2014 if he tried; but you are absolutely right his AB's against lefties should be few and far between. Maybe you let him go against medicore lefties every once in a while but he probably has not shot against the good starters or loogies.
  2. This seems like a solid first step towards improving the team next year. Estrada probably wasn't in the plans and Lind looks like a pretty solid get even if you need a platoon mate for the tougher lefties. You need a good right handed platoon that can also provide some good defense late in games if need be. I think this is a good first step but probably shouldn't be the last if they really want to compete. Obviously 3rd needs to get resolved and they also need a good utility player or two and some bullpen help.
  3. I would pay $10 to $12 a year for LaRoche if he is going to OPS 900 against righties (What maybe about 75% of 1B ab's would be against righties?). Rogers would probably be a fine platoon mate.
  4. LaRoche has got to be the odds on favorite at this point. He is a nice lefty bat that will take a walk and coming off a pretty darn good year. If LaRoche will take a 2 year contract DM better make a really hard push.
  5. It has got to be Headley or Ramirez right? I don't really see many other good options out there unless there is a trade. hardballtalk said a contract of 3/36 would be reasonable for Headley and 2/25 for Ramirez. If I had to pick between those two contracts I probably would take Headley although Ramirez is probably the better player (And also much more likely to miss significant time)
  6. Hardballtalk still seems to think their is a team out there willing to give a full time job to Rickie at 2nd. I will believe that when I see it. The only real memory of Weeks that stands out to me is the HR he hit into Big Mac land.
  7. I got groceries once at Wal-Mart and never again. While of course the dry goods and frozen foods are basically the same everywhere; I thought their produce was atrocious and buying meat from Wal-Mart just doesn't appeal to me. The grapes I got from their tasted nothing like grapes; more like pesticides. It was really gross. I usually go to Festival Foods; I don't think it is a bargain store or anything but it is reasonably prices. I like Woodmans as well but I have to travel 30-40 minutes just to get to one so I don't do it often.
  8. Its too bad the PG crop in next year's draft is going to be so weak. Knight is probably better long term than anyone we could pick up in the top 10 next year. I like Knight more than Jennings but it still seems that when it comes to crunch time in the 4Q he tends to turn into an impatient chucker. If anyone should have taken that shot on Tuesday it should have been Mayo with the way he was shooting it. The problem is that he would have been coming off of the bench cold.
  9. The difference between the top 5 and the next 7 is really pretty small on the team. I just hope Giannis can consistently get 20-25 minutes or so a game; he needs at least that much to develop. He played a pretty solid game last night I thought. I think you could put him in the starting lineup for Dudley. Dudley played almost 30 minutes last night and basically had no stat line; he was more or less invisible. I wish they would have gotten Parker involved in the offense a bit more. I thought Knight was having a good game then I saw this morning he was only 5-17. Yikes. The Bucks starting 5 might not be in the upper tier of the NBA but it does appear their bench will be just as good as anyone's.
  10. Bumgarner by himself is a frickin dynasty; I don't know about the rest of the team. Giants rode a hot pitcher to a World Series title; its happened before and it will happen again. I don't know if that makes them a dynasty or not but I would rather be them then the Brewers
  11. That 4th Quarter was basically the Brewers 2nd half crammed into 24 minute of basketball. For as good as they played early they played bad at the end. They had a ton of turnovers and bad shots, especially in the 4th Q. It seems like Middleton or Knight took every shot in the 4th and no one was passing anymore. I thought Kidd could have shaken up that lineup a bit and put Mayo in there; he played really well.
  12. I think Ramirez as a #6 hitter would be pretty solid Gomez/Gennett/Braun/Lucroy/LaRoche/Ramirez/Davis/Segura seems like a really good lineup.
  13. If all the pieces fall in place they could contend for a playoff spot since the Eastern Conference is still pretty terrible after the top 3 or 4 teams. If they get anything out of Mayo or Ersan that would be a positive. I think Sanders does have a good year. He will never be much more than a defensive stopper and rebounder but that is really all you need from that spot. I will stick with my 32 win projection for now but I could see them getting up to 40 or so if things go right. I just can't imagine them being anywhere near their win total from last year.
  14. I would love to hear them. Really the only teams that I think are on a downward slide in the Central are the Reds and us. Brewers - Fairly obvious what could lead to downfall. Players getting older and next good crop of youngsters is probably a couple years away Reds - If Votto, Bruce, Phillips don't rebound or continue to decline they are in trouble Pirates - Maybe I am reaching here but how much longer can they keep the group together. Liriano & Martin were great but are FA; can they afford to keep everyone? Cards - Molina and Wainright aren't getting any younger; offense was pretty questionable this year and their young pitching is perhaps not as good as we all thought (That might be stretching it a bit; but they are relying pretty heavily on those young guys) I am not saying all of those are likely but I could see it happening. If the Pirates lose both Martin and Liriano this offseason that is definitely weakening the team. Cards will probably be good no matter what simply because that is what they do. Reds might be teetering even more so than the Brewers but they do have a good farm system. In my opinion if Taylor, Coulter, and Arcia specifically continue on the track they have been on; perhaps our farm system catches up to these other teams sooner rather than later. That is not even considering the excitement we should all have for the 2014 class.
  15. While the Cubs will almost certainly be getting better in the near future; you can bet that another team or two in the central will drop off as well. I could come up with reasons that each of the Cardinals, Reds, Pirates, and Brewers could all fall off going forward. However knowing the kind of talent these teams have in the minors perhaps it does make sense to go for it once last time in 2015; because if you don't we might be waiting another long frickin time before they get another chance.
  16. I doubt this really has any impact on Ramirez at all; more of a direct competitor to Bianchi and the like. I would say it is probably very far fetched that he could match Ramirez' production next year; at least I sure as heck wouldn't count on it. This guy is probably a 24th/25th man type player.
  17. Any guess for this upcoming season? Mine are: 32-50 Parker wins Rookie of the Year Parker leads the team in scoring 2 or 3 of OJ Mayo, Brandon Knight, John Henson, Ersan traded at the deadline Giannis ends up being a bit of a disappointment; doesn't progress as fast as we all hoped No all stars but Parker obviously makes rookie/sophomore challenge; Giannis perhaps as well Middleton is a breakout player Shortly after elections; the arena discussions become more in focus and a site is picked by year end; financing in place by the end of the league year
  18. I think you are really stretching things there. You don't think perhaps that one extra player in 2011 would have put us over the top? We were awfully close as it was and if we had an extra bullpen arm or an OF other than Kotsay it could have made the difference? I would like to think if DM was dealing with the Giants payroll he would have found a way to improve that team in a couple areas. Granted extra money in the budget doesn't mean you always make wise decisions but at least you have some more flexibility and you can take more chances.
  19. Just horrible horrible news. Way to young; little details available yet but it doesn't really matter. Just devastating for the family. And purely from a baseball standpoint this is the equivalent of losing Braun or Fielder right after they came up. You don't wish this kind of tragedy on anyone.
  20. Why on earth would Madden leave the Rays to go to the Twins let alone the Brewers. Unless someone is backing up the truck those two moves would be lateral at best. there is someone else out there other than the Twins or Brewers I imagine. I still wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in LA.
  21. I really didn't have anyone in mind at 1st. My point just was that unless you substantially improve the production at 1st I wouldn't want to go from Aram to Rogers at 3rd. Would improvement from the Reynolds/Overbay platoon of 2013 to Adam LaRoche in 2014 offset the probable decline from Aram to Rogers? Could Rogers be worse than the 2013 platoon?
  22. What are the odds that Jason Rogers can come in and be a good enough 3rd basemen on a hopefully contending team? I don't think DM, MA, or RR are even going to consider giving the 3rd base job to an unproven guy like Rogers if they have plans on competing. It will either be Ramirez or a veteran not on the team right now. Maybe Headley or maybe MA goes nuts and signs Sandoval who knows. MA and DM saw what can happen when you don't have an effective replacement with the trainwreck at 1st; they are not going to risk that happening at 3rd by going with an unproven inexperienced player. The only way I would consider going with someone like Rogers at 3rd is if they find a way to substantially improve at 1st. I am not talking about just adding LaRoche; someone younger and better then that.
  23. Every fan in existence seems to like their prior or future managers better than the current one. 5 years from now if we have a new manager everyone will fondly remember RR and wish we had him back. I sort of liked Yost back in the day but I wasn't in love with him either; I think RR is definitely a step up. I still love Phil Garner but I have no idea why. Its just one of those things. Jerry Royster might be the only fairly recent Brewers manager that every fan can agree basically was horrible; everyone else there are varied opinions.
  24. We already have one guy everyone in MLB hates why not add another and just take Arod off their hands? I think I am only half joking. I really don't think the Yankees want Arod playing for them next year so I don't know they will be trying to unload Prado. Trading Arod is probably next to impossible though. Yankees do no need some starting pitching for sure; but I would think more teams would be interested in Garza than Gallardo given the extra year on the contract. I would be torn on a Gallardo for Prado swap. I like Prado but would everyone be comfortable having both Fiers and Nelson in the rotation to start the year? I am not sure.
  25. Could we really expect to do any better than say Aram at 3rd and LaRoche at 1st without having to trade any of our big prospects or sign anyone to a large deal? I would guess probably not. If Headley would cost $50 Million + I want no part of that. I would be perfectly happy going into next year with Aram and LaRoche as our corner infielders; so long as Melvin can find a good utility guy for the inevitable Aram DL stint. Sandoval is too expensive and Hadley is too mediocre for this likely price tag; I would just assume stick with the guy who has been pretty good for us; poor 2nd half notwithstanding.
