  1. Do you think the A's are firing Melvin over their collapse? There melt down is even worse than the Brewers. The meltdown occurred because suddenly no on the team could hit, field, or pitch. If you want to blame the coach for the players not playing up to their abilities that's fine; I just don't. This is a team that was projected to finish perhaps around .500 and given our talent level that probably was a reasonable expectation. Now we are almost surely going to finish above .500 and we are still fighting for a playoff spot with 10 days to go; that just doesn't scream a firing to me. If the Brewers had never had that 20-7 run and instead gradually built up their wins to where they are now there would be no complaining; but because the Brewers had a great hot streak in the early part of the year perhaps we as fans ended up overestimating how good this team really was. This team had ended up about where it should have and perhaps a bit better.
  2. Segura, Gomez, and Herrera all basically suck. If starting one over the other is considered a last straw then I don't really know what to say. RR had 3 options and none of them are any good. People loved that he has been starting Clark, a supposed hot hand, yet he gets criticized for starting Gomez after he had a game winning hit earlier in the series? Something doesn't make sense there. The bigger problem is that the Brewers star offensive players have basically done jack squat for the last 4 weeks. We aren't scoring runs and when you can throw a lineup out there including Gomez, Braun, Lucroy, and Ramirez not to mention the likes of Gennet, Davis, Parra, etc we should be scoring runs. The Brewers had so many chances to score that winning run last night and they choked every single time.
  3. Well we probably need to sweep the Pirates now. At least we don't have to go through Liriano and Cole.
  4. It wouldn't hurt to try to take a pitch from Miller. He can get pretty wild at times. Make him throw strikes. We better not count on a Pirates loss tonight. 1-9 Brandon Workman is taking on Gerrit Cole.
  5. Evaluating the power of players looks like it will get a lot more difficult. Brevard depressing power pretty substantially, Huntsville I think is fairly neutral, and I can only imagine Co Spring is no different than Coors. I guess evaluators will need to look at AA more than anything now.
  6. Hopefully the other major sports leagues learn from the NFL's mistakes and get good domestic violence policies in the place. This very well could have happened to MLB or the NBA first. Its not surprising that this appears to be a problem in the NFL considering these mean are basically trained to be violent. Not to make excuses but perhaps its hard to turn that off for some guys? McDonald is the only guy left out there where nothing has been done; he also hasn't been charged though either.
  7. RR better have a plan if Fiers doesn't have his head in the game; get a reliever up earlier if there is even a hint of wildness. Nelson should get himself plenty warmed up in pregame just in case.
  8. Matt Clark should be a fall back for 2015; I would be disappointed if DM didn't make a roster move to get a better 1B in here. Clark might turn out to be a league average 1B; but if DM has the payroll ability I would rather have him bring in someone you can count on. Regardless he looks like he might be a decent bench bat. It would be nice if he could learn a corner OF spot so the bench could be a bit more versatile next year.
  9. If the Brewers can be within a game of a playoff spot heading into the last 6 games of the year against a struggling Cincy and beatable Cubs team I really like our chances. The Pirate series is going to be huge. The Red Sox better at least take one game.
  10. The governor of MN has also come out telling the Vikings to suspend AP. If he actually plays on Sunday I will be shocked; the Vikings are coming out looking awful. I think Goodell is giving the Vikings an opportunity to fix this themselves; but if he isn't satisfied he will step in. I don't think Goodell will let AP play on Sunday and for at least a couple more after that. AP has basically admitted to beating his kid and causing visible injuries twice. Now maybe he doesn't get convicted because it doesn't quite go as far as child abuse according to the letter of the law; but the public has seen these pictures so he is guilty already. Most likely he reaches some sort of plea agreement anyways; I doubt he spends any time in jail unless even more issues pop up. That message board shutting down is nuts. The strange thing is I did read through their AP thread on Saturday of last week or so and there was definitely 3 or 4 posters there that were defending AP and his right to whip his kids. I.E. the wussification of America is terrible.
  11. Not optimistic for the Cards series. Hopefully Pit loses a game or two against Boston so the inevitable 1-2 against STL doesn't put us too far behind. Those PIT matchups don't scare me at all and the only real tough pitcher after that is Cueto.
  12. I am sorry but the kid was 4 years old. Whether you believe in this type of punishment or not; 4 years old is way to young to be doing that to your kid.
  13. Who are we facing in the Cards series? Also anyway of knowing how the Pirates rotation will lineup later this week?
  14. I have an 8 year old flip phone. These things are too darn expensive for me. I got my wife a pretty basic smart phone on a prepaid plan and that is plenty good enough. I could never justify spending so much on a phone; but I understand it is a necessity for many people nowadays.
  15. 49ers and Panthers are also going to do the same thing. They all have good players that have the issues so they won't sit them unless they have to. Now if Guy #50 on the team has a domestic issue; the team will absolutely not tolerate that and his sorry butt will be cut on Day #1.
  16. Except that despite all those issues the NFL is still as popular as ever and raking in the owners a ridiculous amount of money. Goodell has generally been pretty aggressive on "protecting the shield" but he has done that because he can. The CBA was incredibly favorable to the NFL in that regard; he is basically judge, jury, and executioner. If the NFLPA didn't like that; then they shouldn't have agreed to it. No doubt that Roger probably has a huge ego and probably takes enjoyment in being God, but the results of his actions have still led to large increases in the bottom line to the owners and an incredibly popular sport.
  17. Without surgery is this something that will just be there forever or is there a chance it would simply cure itself with rest? No point to do surgery if it won't do anything but I would hate this to be a injury he has to deal with the rest of his career.
  18. The media took this to another level today. Profootballtalk is a pretty widely read online site and they took Goodell to task for being at the Masters the day the video apparently came in the mail. Are you freaking serious? Was Goodell just supposed to hole himself up in the office and not to do anything until he could get the video of an incident that happened two months prior? The media frenzy over this story is getting entirely out of control and personally I hope it bites them in the butt.
  19. I absolutely agree there; this has turned into a witch hunt at the NFL offices when in reality this is all happening because a guy knocked his wife out cold. The NFL has two offer domestic abuse cases as well. It is just amazing that this stuff doesn't come out more often in MLB and when it does there is no punishment at all. NFL takes "protecting the shield" extremely seriously.
  20. How many left handed hitters hit well against LOOGY's period? I mean those guys have only one job to do and that is get lefties out. It would seem unreasonable to expect Gennett to hit well against lefties. He is probably an above average talent not some superstar who can hit anyone you throw at him. I would be for giving him some starts here or there against lefties next year just to give him a shot.
  21. I understand the primary reason for the movement but I am still not sure why this is such a big deal. People simply want him fired because Rice's initial suspension wasn't long enough and therefore he doesn't take domestic violence seriously? Whether or not he saw that tape is irrelevant to me. I guess I am just not as outraged as everyone else. At least the NFL does something for domestic issues; MLB literally does nothing at all. Nothing for domestic violence, DUI's, or basically anything else. NFL seems ahead of the curve to me. Maybe people think Goodell is a jerk because he is basically God in the NFL; but I just don't see this as a fireable offense; I mean it did lead to immediate policy change for suspensions relating to domestic violence.
  22. I think there is little to no chance either RR or DM gets fired over this. I haven't read anything that RR has lost the team or anything like that. The Brewers just happen to be playing pathetically bad baseball for the last week. They can't hit and they can't pitch; I don't think the coaching has anything to do with the whole team deciding to slump at once. This stretch has been incredibly disappointing and even though we are right in the middle of a playoff race it sure as heck doesn't feel like it. I just hope some good comes out of this and the Brewers improve certain areas in 2015. They need more guys that will be patient at the plate consistently and can get on base. Too many free swingers that are prone to slumps. Plus Braun needs to figure his thing out; either get the thumb surgery or stop blaming his mediocre performance and his myriad of injuries. The Brewers are slumping badly just at the time the Packers season starts; most people probably don't even care about the Crew anymore.
  23. This UW team sure will be fun to watch and that Duke game should be fantastic. I will be curious to see who fills Brust's spot. Koenig should probably play the #1 which would push Jackson to the #2 in place of Brust. I like Jackson has a SG much more than a PG.
  24. Wang has been decent enough in MILB to pique my curiosity with him as a prospect next year; but he still should not be pitching in any game other than a blowout the rest of the year.
  25. Some recruiting magazine may say UW is one of the front runners for Stone but I guess I will still believe it when I see it. Stone is very likely to be a 1 or 2 year player and those types of players just don't go to Wisconsin. They go to UConn or Duke. Maybe Stone values academics a lot; who knows, but I will be very pleasantly surprised if he actually ends up at UW. No doubt Stone will be at the Duke/UW game at the Kohl Center this year; maybe that game and that atmosphere ends up being a deciding factor either way?
