  1. The way the ACC has looked in the NCAA and NIT tourneys makes me think that entire league isn't very good this year. Miami nearly lost to a very average Illinois team, Virginia lost to Iowa at home, NC State lost to Temple, North Carolina looked awful against Kansas. I am starting to like my Michigan State Final 4 pick more and more. I think they beat Duke but Louisville is awfully tough.
  2. I think they are pretty much locked into the 8th seed now. Will they win one game against the Heat or better yet will the games even be competitive. Was giving up on Harris really worth this? This offseason will be a very important one for the Bucks; they can spend tons of money on Redick, Ellis, and/or Jennings and stay mediocre or they can just let them go and rebuild. I think everyone knows which way they are going to go.
  3. Go Wichita St baby; I want them to beat up the Craft's so bad. I won't be suprised at all if both Michigan St and Michigan pull the upsets tonight. Neither are huge underdogs though. Marquette played great last night; that had be one of if not the worst performance for Miami all year. They were pathetic and acted like they didn't want to be there.
  4. I wouldn't consider a 4.5% Profit Margin all that good. There are a multitude of industries that will double and triple that. I am sure there is a boatload of depreciation, amortization, and interest deducted from that net profit; there operating margin is probably closer to 10-15% probably. Still not all that impressive. But I don't think MA is necessarily in this to turn a big profit; his other businesses are making him his money.
  5. Thursday and Friday I like Louisville, Michigan State, Wichita State, Arizona, Michigan, Florida, Syracuse, and Miami. And I will take a Michigan State, Arizona, Florida, and Miami Final 4. I really want to pick Wichita State to beat Arizona but can't bring myself to do it. Marquette is really lucky to still be playing; I just have a hard time seeing them beating Miami. Not that they can't but I certainly wouldn't put money on them if I were a betting man.
  6. Talk to me again in 3 months. If Morris is tearing it up in AAA then I would not extend Hart. If Morris takes a step back and no other firstbasemen in the system steps up then maybe I consider it. It always comes down to the benjamins. Even if Morris flops I have to imagine that K Davis would be given a great opportunity over there. So at this point I would bet against it. If I had to choose I would rather extend Weeks when his contract is up than Harts.
  7. Just when I was starting to get over the Lohse signing the pull this on me? You are killing me smalls. He better be the 25th damn guy on the roster and he better get like .5 starts every stupid week. I swear on all that is holy if he takes away starts for Segura other than occasional rest I am going to be so pissed. It seems like Melvin is just going out of his way to make internet message boards go ballistic
  8. Offense is still one of the best in the league and adding Segura and a whole year of Aoki should only help. Plus Rickie probably won't hit 150 again for 2 months. It would be almost impossible for the bullpen to blow as many games this year as they did last year. The rotation, while clearly the biggest question mark, is not without talent and not without numerous options down in AAA and AA if somebody doesn't perform. Gallardo and Lohse is a pretty strong 1/2 and if Peralta and Estrada both have the potential to be above average. The best you can hope for out of Narveson is average probably. We don't have Krod, Manny, or Loe this year. The Cards rotation and lineup just doesn't scare me on paper. The Reds were way to healthy last year; that will even out this year. The Pirates still don't have enough talent and the Cubs are still a couple years away. Even if they suck is there really anything better than tailgaiting and putting back a few with friends?
  9. Just because we got Lohse doesn't mean that Burgos and Thornburg might not get a chance. They will still get ample opportunity if Estrada, Narveson, or Peralta struggle. I am not a huge fan of the signing but I am willing to give it a chance. I certainly don't think Lohse is going to block anybody. If Thornburg, Burgos, Jungmann, etc pitch will enough in MILB they will fine there way up here. Odds are probably pretty good that at least one of Peralta, Narveson, and Estrada completely flame out.
  10. I don't know about there; there was a whole lot of garbage out there this year. I probably would rather have Lohse than Dempster and it isn't like we were going to get Grienke. It was slim pickings this year.
  11. Wolf was an OK signing; Suppan was horrendous. Aren't we basically paying Lohse the same contract that we gave Wolf? My money is on Lohse outperforming Wolf. I hated this deal at first but it is warming on me. I am still not convinced we are a playoff team though. I don't think we have the most talent in the division but it seems rare that the talented team wins out. If the Brewers remain healthy for the most part they probably will be in the hunt for the playoffs.
  12. 3/33 I guess isn't all that bad but why always with the 3rd year? We all know he is going to be a flaming pile of Suppan by that time. I am not as mad as I would have been if the young guys hadn't sucked all spring. We were facing an atricious starting rotation they way those guys were pitching. So at least that part of it makes sense. I don't know that Lohse is really blocking anybody either. There are three spots for everyone not named Gallardo or Lohse so the younger guys should still get ample opportunity unless Narveson, Peralta, etc don't let go of those spots
  13. What an awful charge call in the OSU/Iowa St game. Craft slid under him while he was in the air; OSU is very very lucky to still be playing.
  14. I still really like the Ole Miss match up for UW. But they can still lose if they play like they did against Purdue. Either way I am almost guaranteed to swear at Henderson at least 3 times today. So far the Pac 12 looks underrated and the MWC very much over rated. The B10's more competitive games are today; lets see how they do (UW vs. Ole Miss, Ill vs. Colorado, MN vs UCLA)
  15. Aren't they opening themselves up to some liability in the future by openly disregarding the rules of the drug program? Offering immunity seems to be opening up a monster can of worms. Some lawyer in the future could challenge the program and the players union sure as hell can't be OK with this. If there really is evidence that Braun used PED's then I want to see it and if he gets suspended then so be it. But if MLB comes out of this with nothing but hearsay and still tries to suspend Braun than I hope Braun and his lawyers sue the pants off of MLB.
  16. So yeah I had NM in the Final 4. Also what the heck Akron and Montana? Are you kidding me? The way that region is shaking out; I am also really liking UW's chances. Gonzaga did not look like a 1 seed yesterday. A UW/OSU Elite 8 match up would be pretty sweet. Pretty even match up but to lose that game would be pretty heartbreaking
  17. My first bracket has Michigan St, New Mexico, Florida, and Miami in the Final 4. I have New Mexico beating UW in the Elite 8. Michigan State beats Florida in a rematch of the 2000 Championship. Really tough bracket to fill out; I am sure I will change my mind a couple more times before Thursday
  18. About as good of a draw for UW as one could have hoped. They are going to make Henderson at Ole Miss go bonkers. K State will be a tough 2nd round game but I really like there chances of making a deep run. Maybe a rematch with Ohio State in the Elite 8
  19. So they score 17 points in the first half and 50 in the 2nd half. That makes total sense. They were just lucky Michigan was broke in that 1st half as well
  20. Not that Lunardi is known to be great at this but he has UW at a 5 and if they beat Michigan today they should be solidly locked into a 5 with a chance at a 4 if they beat Indiana tomorrow
  21. For the vast majority of Melvin's tenure; the Brewers have not been in a position to "sell high". They have been serious contendors or at least on the borderline of contending going back for a while now. Selling your good players at the height of there success isn't a great model to keep the team in contention and also keep 3 million paying customers. If the Brewers had stars waiting in the wings in the minors it might be a little different but we haven't had a difference maker like Fielder, Weeks, or Braun that could be reasonably expected to perform well enough to allow Melvin to trade a star player.
  22. Roache strikes me as a guy that could sky rocket up the lists this year. He is a little bit of an unknown due to missing all of last year but he has as much potential as anyone. Same could be said of Coulter although to a lesser extent. It is unlikely that all of a sudden the Brewers will have a bunch of top 30 guys; but they certainly could have 4-5 guys in the top 100 by the end of the year.
  23. Both Marquette and UW are very likely to end up as 4-5 seeds. In my opinion there is a very clear Top 10 and then after that it get really murky. If UW had just avoided those losses to Virginia and Purdue they are probably sitting pretty at a 3. Regardless of where both Marq and UW end up; I have a feeling they will be sexy picks to be upset in the first round. UW is routinely that sexy pick despite there strong history of making it to the 2nd weekend and Marq lacks the star power to make the media fall in love with them.
