  1. I'll go along with everyone else saying that this makes no sense for the Royal. This was a 72 win team last year; with this move maybe it at best gets them to around .500 or slightly above. This by no means makes them a championship contending team and they just traded two elite prospects with 6 years of control. It be one thing if the Royals were an 85 win team now and just needed to get over that hump (Similar to the Grienke & Marcum deals at MIL) but there team still doesn't look good enough to compete with Detroit let alone the rest of the AL.
  2. I think it is kind of funny that Alvarez had a potential replacement in for a talk not 5 minutes after Bieliema told him he was leaving. Part of that is coincidence but Alvarez obviously had some names in mind if Bret ever bolted. I would be curious to know who Barry called literally right after he heard the news? Quite a few interesting tidbits in the presser today. Doesn't have to be a WI guy but he will only be looking at guys with head coach experience at first. So that rules out Bevell unless he doesn't find anyone with experience first.
  3. Sounds like BA won't even interview Chryst as he would feel guilty about taking him back after only one year at Pitt. Peterson would be a great hire; I am pretty skeptical about us actually getting him though. With Chryst out of the picture I really have no idea who Option #1 is going to be; although BA did say he wants someone with head coaching experience. Peterson or Al Golden sound great to me.
  4. I would also take Tressel in a heart beat. Tressel vs. Meyer year in year out for the Division title would be great. It probably will end up being one of these 4 guys Paul Chryst Mel Tucker Al Golden Darell Bevell The money still has to be on Chryst but I wouldn't really object to any of the other guys. Al Golden is very intriguing to me. We will get the big horses no matter who we hire; I want someone that can recruit and develop the skill positions.
  5. This reminds me of a fairly recent Brewers signing. All Brewer fans scream in horror
  6. I am not a huge fan but he is cost controlled. ERA + of only 97 last year after 110 and 112 in 2010 and 2011. Seems like a league average starter to me. Peripherals seem to indicate there is some room for improvement; pretty good K/BB, WHIP, and H/9 figures. Depending on the position that Texas would want back; I would think we have the prospects to pull it off.
  7. They must have signed some 20 year contract around 2004; that is such a low low number. Brewers have had some of the best local rating in MLB in the last couple of years. I am sure there are some escalators built in to account for ratings but the starting point is just way to low. Other teams are getting 3x, 4x, 5x, the amount the Brewers are getting. With the attendance that MIL draws; just imagine what the payroll could be and what players we could go after if we were getting $40+ Million a year instead of $21?
  8. He wasn't on the hot seat; it probably would have taken another 5+ loss year to get to that point. But I can see the downward swing a bit. 5 losses this year and also could have easily lost to Northern Iowa and Utah State as well. Last year was great but we lucked into Russell Wilson; if we had to go with the QB's that Bieliema recruited and developed we would have had atleast a couple more losses last; possibly quite a few more. I don't think it is an alarming downward swing by any means but I can envision it coming. Thankfully the entire B10 has been crap for a couple years now so UW has looked great in comparison. UW will always get the offensive lineman and the top players in the state of WI; but Bret's recruitment and development of QB's and WR's have been awful at best. Good luck winning in the SEC without the skill position players.
  9. Or even a week earlier and we could have had Dave Doeren back.
  10. The problem is that he is a Big Ten guy though; basically all of his staff are B10 guys. How is he ever going to compete for recruits against Alabama, LSU, Florida, Etc? This just seems like a bad fit. I was never a huge BB fan but I thought he was a decent enough coach. This year made me rethink that a little; perhaps the success was due to his assistants. He will probably do fine; but I don't think there is anyway he somehow is going to compete for titles at Arkansas.
  11. Please explain to me how Arkansas is any kind of upgrade over WI? This is all about the money. He is getting $2.5 Million at UW and Arkansas is paying him $4 Million. So he is going to take the higher paying job to get his but kicked year in and year out in the SEC. Congratulations? Might as well see if Chryst would want to come back. Should be interesting to hear the names they are thinking about and what the heck they plan to do with the Rose Bowl less than a month away. Who the heck is going to coach, Matt Canada?
  12. Doug really has to get in touch with Tampa. I don't know if we have the A prospects to get Shields, Hellickson, etc but he at least has to give it a shot I like Grilli much more than Burnett. However there just isn't a whole lot of Left handed reliever talent out there to get. Probably better off going after elite RH pitchers who can actually get left handers out
  13. In all likelihood I think DM trades for a SP if he picks one up at all. It seems that he might have learned his lesson with Suppan and to a lesser extent Wolf. He has got some prospect chips to work with; I think he'll find someone he can control for at least 2 more years. Probably not a #1 type though.
  14. If we are limited to guys like Blanton we might as well just pass and put all of our eggs in our young starting pitchers. Blanton isn't any better than what we already have. I still would be OK with Dempster but if he turned duwn $13 AAV then I want no part of something higher than that. If you are going to overpay; go after the bullpen and just let it ride with Gallardo, Fiers, Estrada, Rogers, Peralta, Thornburg, Burgos.
  15. The guy had the most hittable fastball I have ever seen. That could be my imagination but his FB seemed straight as a string with little control. Offspeed stuff is good enough to be in MLB; but when your FB is that hittable it makes it hard to succeed unless you have a Hoffman change up.
  16. Yeah last night is why I always hesitate to get on the Bucks bandwagon. Perhaps they are still just a mediocre team that happens to being playing well to start the year.
  17. The entire division is just a joke. After tonight's game; the next 2 weeks will show a lot about this team. If they go and beat Chicago in the home and home; then you have to feel awfully good about this team. They would get home court in the first round against probably a very mediocre team. Of course they will aren't going to the Finals or anything like that but there is a dearth of quality teams in the East this year. Miami, New York, and ?. Milwaukee might be that third teams competing with Brooklyn & Boston. The Bucks are probably capable of beating anyone; however I don't want to get my hopes up because they are also capable of getting beat by anyone. They are a very hot & cold team.
  18. Braun will finish 3rd most likely. I am not going to be disappointed if he loses; I will be if Yadier freakin Molina and his OPS more than 100 points lower than Braun's somehow finishes ahead of him.
  19. Whats the point of having Stanton if you know you are going to be horrible for a minimum of 2 years? Plus they just pissed the guy off. I wouldn't be all that shocked if he does get traded. I also wouldn't be shocked if it took far less than people would think. I bet if we offered Hunter Morris, Wily Peralta, and Jimmy Nelson you might get them interested. Throw Aoki in there too since you don't really need him with Stanton in RF.
  20. Yeah but he gave up in about 3 months. Several of his players were obvously having down years last year; but to completely blow the thing up when it is very possible they could rebound in 2013. The down performance from these players in 2012 was a convenient excuse to cut payroll and make more money. If they would kept the team intact that they started with in 2012; they would be a contender in 2013 despite the down year.
  21. Florida is such a horrible franchise. Loria gets whats coming to him if he only get 5,000 a night next year. Not that he'll care because he will still make money
  22. I would increase his 2013 salary and give him a 2/24 extension after that; make it effectivey a 3/36 deal. Seems fair all the way around. Hart has been a solid producer for a long time. That being said I have no interest in him going back to RF. TH speculated that Hunter Morris might bump him back there in 2014. With Hart's age and declining athletic ability I really don't want to watch him being a hack out in RF. Move Morris out there if you have to.
  23. So the Crew does have interest in Dempster? You could do worse than signing him to a 2 year deal with a 3rd year option. I still would prefer Sanchez to be option #1 and Jackson to be option #2; but Dempster wouldn't be a bad pick up on a short deal
  24. Just read on yahoo that Disney Channel is bring back Boy Meets World with Corey/Topanga married with a kid and Corey as a school teacher. I think this is officially my first ever "I Feel Old" moment because I loved that show growing up. Even though it would be on Disney Channel I might actually sneak a peek at it if atleast some of the original cast is involved. It is still on ABC Family every morning from 6-8:30; must be popular enough yet that they think this can be pulled off.
  25. The entire division looks incredibly weak without Derrick Rose. The Pacers lost to the Bobcats on opening night. Cleveland & Detriot just aren't very good. Chicago will still be good; but maybe 45-47 wins. If the team comes together they could easily win the division; but it is way to early to get optimistic
