  1. Pretty depressing day in FDL; the young woman who killed three of her friends after she was driving to fast on a country raod is getting sentenced this morning. Hard to believe but this case may be more heated than the political races right now. Regardless of if she gets jail time or not it is just a sad situation all the way around.
  2. He is asking for 7/175. So basically we would need hime to come down to 1/2 of that before we would be interested. Seems pretty unlikely. If Hamilton really thinks he is a $25 Million a year player or even a 7 year contract player; he is going to be waiting a long time. He is already on the wrong side of 30 and obviously has some baggage. If I was Hamilton; I would be happy with 4/80. These guys can say the Brewers are interested all they want; but unless we trade for some pre arby SP that is actually good; I don't see how we will afford to pay $10-$15 Million a year for whatever SP we sign and $20 Million a year for Hamilton not to mention a whole new bullpen.
  3. Matt freaking Carpenter who just subs in for Beltran who got hurt (suprise) hits a 2R HR to give the Cards the lead. Give me a freaking break. Between Carpenter, Kozma, and Descalso I am getting sick of these AAAA bums somehow turning into all stars for the Cards in the playoffs.
  4. Thats why I hate malls during shopping season. There are always people just standing around chit chatting meanwhile 50 people need to funnel through a 3 foot space. And don't even get me starting on people waiting in there car for 10 minutes for hopefully another car to leave meanwhile a stack of 5-10 cars is sitting behind them.
  5. I think it is debatable whether or not the Hamilton/Gamel combo would actually outperform Hart/Gomez. At the very least I don't think it is as cut and dry as you think. Our offense absolutely does not to be fixed; our right handed heavy order was the best offense in the NL; I don't care if they add a LF bat or not. DM needs to get a SP first; if he can get a pretty solid deal maybe you revisit Hamilton if he is still there. But for $17 Million or so a year I just think his incremental value to the team over someone like Hart or Aoki wouldn't make it worth it.
  6. Even if Melvin wanted him it won't happen. Every year people speculate that a price might drop for a particular player and it never happens. Someone will inevitably overpay for him. Unless the Brewers can get him for like 4/60 I wouldn't have any interest at all. And there is no way Hamilton gets less than $80 Million.
  7. So I wake up to this crap this morning? I should have known. There were two outs again and Storen decides to let 2 walks, Daniel Descalso and Peter freakin Kozma beat him. What a freaking cruel joke this is; The Cardinals must have something on God at this point
  8. And Rolen strikes out to end it I don't really like either team; but if I had to choose I am glad SF won.
  9. Reds are making this interesting
  10. Holy Jeez are the Reds choking; they are going to lose 3 straight at home. I have a feeling Rolen is going to get thrown under the bus; if not for his error in Game #3, the Reds might have swept. Also Dusty playing Rolen over Frazier is a joke anyways
  11. Grienke had a few bad starts in Anaheim but I think he was generally pretty good. He just started out rough. Just trying to figure out Carlos's vlaue is virtually impossible because he basically did notihng offensively prior to this year. I would hesitate to give him any kind of extension until he does this again early next year; but by then it will be too late to work out an extension anyways. Schafer is a great CF and I think he could be just as valuable as Gomez at far less cost. If it were up to me I would go with Gomex for the start of next year and let Schafer take over in 2014 or even trade deadline 2013.
  12. Are they really pinch hitting for Garcia in the 2nd inning? His start was a little rough; but that is putting an awful amount of pressure on the bullpen.
  13. For $48,000 I would expect to get some gold plated teeth. That can't seem possible. All my cavities over the years from my Dew addiction probably amounted to maybe $4,800 in dental bills. My father in law never brushed his teeth a day in his life and just had them all ripped out and got set up with some dentures. Even that bill was only like $5-$6,000.
  14. Every sport has wild card entrants; that isn't a big deal to me.
  15. Atleast the Packers lived another day after a horrible call. Atlanta not so much; nice way for Chipper to go out. I don't understand why they can't just do a 3 game series. Baseball should not be single elimination
  16. There is no doubt that Melvin will make a "panic" move. He will sign one or two relievers for more than what we would like; just seems inevitable too me. If he stays internal next year and the bullpen implodes he might get fired. I don't think he would be willing to risk his job on some rookies with very minimal MLB experience; he will get a veteran or two and will probably overpay. We just have to hope they turn out to be Saito/Hawkins version 2011.
  17. Isn't Chris Perez bat crazy? He is like Nyjer Morgan X 2.
  18. And that is probably fine. I think Schafer is more than capable of playing CF in a full time roll starting in 2014. Excellent defender and should be good enough with the bat to Fill Gomez's spot at #7/#8. I am sure we can find a RH platoon if we need one. I like Gomez; but I would have no interest in breaking the bank to keep him.
  19. I have gotten my intake down to about 5 MD's a week which is probably still too much. I don't even take them for an energy boost; I just like the taste and it is just a habit. I have never gotten into energy drinks and I hope I never do. Just the fact that you might "need" an energy drink is basically saying that your body isn't getting the necessary nutrition to generate natural energy. I know that many people take them and you could be drinking far worse things; but pumping all that crap into my body just scares me a little (And that is coming from a guy who is fully aware what is in Dew). I always find the Five hour Energy commercial hilarious. Its amazing that 73% of doctors would be Ok with their patients taking an energy supplemant if they are healthy and they already take them. What a shocking revelation that is.
  20. That 2004 K: ratio was ridiculous. I can say with good certainty that Sheets was the primary reason I became an avid fan. I was a casual fan at best up until 2004; even though we were terrible that year he was the first Brewer player I ever made me go out of my way to watch them. When he pitched you wanted to watch because he always had the potential for no hitter type stuff.
  21. I really think Hart's days at RF are over; he has looked great at 1B and Aoki solidified himself as the RF. Hart is such a better 1B than RF. Unless someone gets traded Gamel will be a bench guy, be in AAA, or be on another team. I think you are weakening the team if you play Gamel at 1st, Hart at RF, and Gomez/Aoki at CF. The possibility remains that Hart could get traded; but I really think DM will ride him out next year and go with Gamel (if he is still in the organization) or Morris in 2014 (Or Trading deadline 2013)
  22. I am very suprised that we rank that highly at 2nd. Is 2nd base throughout baseball that bad that Rickie can rank 11th despite being arguably the worst player in baseball for 2 months?
  23. Jeff Passan at yahoo also says he would give Braun the MVP but knows that he won't win it
  24. I would be shocked of Loe or Parra are back. Axford, Kintzler, and Henderson all have a better than decent shot of staying on next year; after that it is really a crap shoot. Given how this season went I would be shocked if Melvin didn't go out and overpay for a reliever or two.
  25. I think the possibility remains that he might come back. Krod at like $3 Million isn't as bad as Krod at $ Million +. He is still a serviceable reliever; and $3-4 Million is probably the going rate for 7th/8th inning guys. Yeah he had a horrible stretch there; but he obviously still has the talent to be successful based on the last month or two. It probably wouldn't be a popular decision but I think you could do much much worse than bringing him back at a much reduced price. Krod, Henderson, and Axford isn't a bad bunch; so long as they play to there talent level.
