  1. They should just let the relievers pitch the first 3 innings and then bring in the "starters". That way even though the reliever will give up 3-5 runs every night at least we will have 6 innings to come back instead of 1 or none.
  2. Well atleast we have a realistic shot of getting a top 10 pick; maybe as high as 6-8.
  3. I bet his career year has absolutely nothing to do with this....... Atleast Braun has been consistent year in and year out; the guy was an average player that happened to turn into an MVP after playing in a HUGE pitchers park.
  4. My beat for next year is $85 Million; attendance will almost certainly be worse as they won't have the offseason sales that they have in the past. $85 Million is still a nice number and gives Melvin some flexibility; but it still would be wise to take a risk and put at least 2 or 3 pre arby guys in the rotation so the money can be spent on other areas like the bullpen. Fiers as a pre arby guy should be a lock and they should let one or two of Peralta, Rogers, and Thornburg fill the other spots not vacated by Gallardo, Fiers, and maybe a mid tier FA like Marcum. That should leave plenty of cap space for other areas of need
  5. My mistake I thought they said Rio was one time slot West of the Eastern Time Zone. I suppose one slot east makes more sense; otherwise they would have just said Central Time. I don't think there would be too much tape delay for that time zone; probably a little but atleast there will be atleast a chance that viewers will miss the spoilers on line. For London you basically had to avoid the internets the entire afternoon.
  6. I don't like what the Magic did at all. Yeah they got a bunch of draft picks but I doubt any of them are going to be very high up on the board and everyone knows how difficult it is to score stars in the teens and twenties of the draft. They will be bad enough to get some high picks for there own craptitude but I don't think that is the return they had in mind for DH. Also put me in the camp that hopes Howard just fails miserably in LA. I would rather have MIA win going forward than LA just because of the way Howard has conducted himself.
  7. Thank goodness the 2016 Olympics are in a close timezone. I believe RIO is in the Central Time Zone (Or atleast the equivalent) Sochi, Russia for the 2014 winter games will bring the same problems though. I thought that entire closing ceremony was rather weak; it just seemed like they went all out for quantity rather than quality. I thought Bejiing was so much better. The prospect of having the Olympics in a place like Rio is rather exciting; it is bound to be very entertaining. All in all the Olympics were well done with only minor issues; so it should be considered a success.
  8. That was a pretty nice AB by Segura; I think he is starting to settle down a little bit.
  9. Gamel may turn out to be a good MLB player; but once again the only role I see for him right now is at a bench spot. Aoki is pretty solidified in RF; Braun in LF, and Hart at 1B. The only scenario where he could have a meaningful role in 2013 is if either Aoki or Hart are traded and I just don't that happening. Perhaps Hart is let go after the 2013 season or traded midseason; but it seems like Hunter Morris will be more than capable stepping in at that time and is younger than Gamel, has more service time, will be cheaper, and isn't coming off a major knee injury. Plus he would be a power lefty bat the DM surely would love to have. I really think DM and RR have moved on from Gamel at this point. It does suck because he has minimal trade value at this point but stashing him in AAA and leaving Morris in AA doesn't make any sense in 2013 either. Maybe he still has some trade value based on his potential but teams aren't going to give up much for a 27 year old that has had no MLB success and is coming off a major injury. Maybe Jack Z would still like him. I was at one time fascinated by Mat Gamel as well; but my new fascination is Morris and I don't think there is anything Gamel can do that Morris can't except walk more
  10. I would be embarrassed to use to the BC for anything; just not Olympic caliber without significant upgrades. A Kettle Moraine bike race would be pretty cool; I can't really think of anything else that Chicago just couldn't provide in the immediate area. Please don't let Philly get the Olympics; we don't need batteries being thrown at the French. Toronto, Dallas, and CHI would all be nice choices
  11. The problem with Gamel is there really is no place to play him. Hart is at 1B next year in all likelihood with Hunter Morris having a great shot at the job in 2014. In RF you probably have Aoki in 2013 and maybe Aoki/Davis after that. Gamel isn't going back to 3rd so where exactly are you going to play him. The only way Gamel has any role on the team at all is if Hart is traded this offseason and I just don't see that happening. I also don't see anyway he is kept as a bench player. The obvious problem is you won't get squat for him coming off of a major knee injury so you might have to find a place for him somewhere in 2013 to re-establish value. But again there is no good place to put him.
  12. Man if the team can't resign Jennings or Ellis; this team could be crazy bad in 2013-2014. They are going to be bad as it is; but if those guys don't sign extensions. WOW. Whats worse I don't know if I would want to sign those guys to extensions; they are merely good not great players. However if you don't then this team is Bobcats bad.
  13. It is kind of funny; but realistically Chicago will probably give it another shot for 2024 and no doubt Wisconsin will be utilized to some extent. I don't think Miller Park, Camp Randall, or Lambeau would actually be realistic options for sporting events though.
  14. Hey Segura is starting again today. Good luck against Cueto kid.
  15. Rluz; I think you took my term "average" maybe too literally. But point taken. All I was trying to say was that Gamel does have a change to be an OK player; but I don't know that the Brewers need to be holding a spot for him anymore considering that they have other options in the minors that could turn out to be just as good, are younger, and have more service time going forward. I understand Gamel would have considerable value if he ever figures it out; but perhaps similarly to JDLR it might be time for him to figure it out somewhere else. I wouldn't give him away for nothing but if you can get a good 7th/8th inning guy along with perhaps a 3B prospect I would have to consider it. While I have no proof to back it up; I think Melvin and RR have moved on past Gamel at this point primarily due to Hart playing so well at 1st and the emergence of Aoki in RF. They could keep Gamel as a bench bet but I just don't see him doing very well in that role.
  16. Gamel strikes me as a talent that is easily replaceable. Could he turn out to be an average MLB player; sure I suppose he could. But if you can trade him for an area of need (Such as a reliever) I say you do it. We have some quality depth in the minors at 1B; especially Hunter Morris at AA. I doubt Gamel ever goes back to 3B and OF doesn't look like a huge need in the next 2-3 years either with the like of Braun, Aoki, Gomez, Schafer, Kh Davis, etc. The emergence of Morris makes Gamel very expendable; but that is just my opinion. I wouldn't give him away for peanuts; but I don't believe Gamel profiles well as a bench bat and having him play in AAA doesn't make any sense either.
  17. And what was your prediction for this year? Unforeseen circumstances pop up all the time; that is why this discussion about contending/not contending in 2013 is a little premature (Especially saying outright that we won't). No one is saying that we are guaranteed to contend in 2013 based on the roster we have now; the point is that there are another 9 months before Opening Day that could result in substantial changes to the roster so it makes no sense to count the Brewers out already. The same goes with virtually every team not called the Cubs, Astros, Twins, and Mariners
  18. You mean the same way Olt was a lock to go to MIA? You mean that kind of lock? Did anyone have Grienke or Marcum penciled into the 2011 rotation in August of 2010?
  19. Do we really need to go down this road again. It is August of 2012; how exactly do you know what the rotation will be in 2013? It is ludicrous to say we can't compete in 2013 with a whole offseason ahead and a team that has a lot of leftovers from an NLCS team.
  20. People have been saying it is an extremely fast track. USA/Canada in a pretty epic soccer match right now.
  21. Just when I decide that I have better things to do than watch a crappy Brewers team they do something like this and get me interested in watching again. Glad to see he is starting tonight and I hope at a minimum he splits starts at SS with Ransom. He hopefully will start 5 out of every 7 or so; if he lights the world on fire than obviously you play him every day. He won't beat the 1.000 OPS he was putting up at Huntsville but he will be a nice addition. I would be pretty happy with the kid if he can put up a .725-750 OPS for the rest of the year and build on that for 2013.
  22. With Gomez's improvement against RHP this year; I would not be suprised in the least if he is handed the fulltime CF job next year. If he continues to play well the rest of the year; it might actually even be justified. You absolutely want a backup LH CF just in case it doesn't work out though. I think the goal should be to get Rickie back at the top of the lineup along with Segura at somepoint in 2013 so Gomez can move down around the 7 spot or so. I know a good couple months aginst RH isn't enough to erase Gomez's failaure throughout his career against RH; but amazingly the guy is still only 26 years old and perhaps he has just figured things out. I am willing to give him the rest of the year and if that trend continues I would be OK giving him the full time job next year. Just have a backup plan in place
  23. Really nice day for the organization. Jungmann and Hellweg both very impressive and Segura/Morris continue to hit. Really excited to watch these guys from here on out. Just wish Tyrone Taylor would get back in the fold Also Hunter Morris' counting stats are ridiculous; now with 60 XBH for the year and 83 RBI's; he has to make his way onto some end of season prospect lists if he keeps this up. Just insane. Just needs to walk a bit more. How is he in the field?
  24. Wouldn't an 83% success rate actually make it a good strategy? Don't get me wrong I don't like it; but isn't the percentage of scoring from 3rd with less than 2 outs significantly less than 83% overall? I don't have stats to back that up but I am fairly confident that to be the case. I still don't like the bunting but an 83% success rate (if it is really that high) seems awfully strong.
  25. Ugh. Squeeze successes have become fewer and farther in between. Hopefully that will cause RR to reconsider strategies this offseason. Pretty sad that he trusts his players more to get a bunt down than to get a hit with RISP or at the very least get it to the outfield.
