  1. I really want Grienke back, not so much that I just love the guy but that Melvin is going to be forced to overpay for Marcum, Wolf, or a different FA pitcher. I suppose picking up Wolf's option wouldn't be the end of the world but I would hate to see him as the #2. I like Peralta, Thornburg, Bradley, Fiers, and Jungmann just as much as everyone else but you can't have 2-3 rookies in the starting rotation in 2013 and expect to compete.
  2. Obviously a radical lineup change from the first 5 games. I like seeing Aoki get a start; Hart getting a day off here and there should be expected especially in the first month or so. Not sure why Braun is getting a day off already; perhaps he is a little banged up. Still an OK lineup and better than what the Cubs can throw out there. With Hart & Braun both out I like seeing Weeks at #3. We'll see how it goes
  3. Anybody have a good recommendation for any grass fed beef operations that sell year round and is within 50 miles or so of Fond du Lac?
  4. The Brewers consistently have the cheapest game experience including tickets, parking, food, etc in MLB. I am all for higher concession prices if it means I can get into the park pretty cheap. Tt is a lot easier to spend money in the park on food and drink if you are a little tipsy after tailgating. Just get them in the door.
  5. The booing and the heckling for the first official road game wasn't nearly as bad as a I thought it was going to be. Pretty weak actually. Consistent booing but nothing crazy and over the top.
  6. Low I am fine with but Parra hasn't been effective in quite some time. Dillard is fine as the last guy out of the bullpen. But these guys are a dime a dozen and can surely be replaced by AAA guys. McClendon for example.
  7. Never let Parra or Dillard in if the game is within 8 runs. Thats probably a good sign you might want to start searching for somebody better than those two. If you cant trust Parra to get a lefty out with a 4 run lead when can you trust the guy?
  8. mlbtraderumors alludes to that Olney piece mentioning that Olney feels Grienke has to restore his reputation as a good clubhouse guy before he will get a big contract. He seems way off base here. A. I had never heard of Grienke being a bad guy other than wanting out of the cesspool that is KS baseball and B. talent trumps all. Even if Grienke were a jerk its not going to keep a team from signing him. Just sounds like a dumb argument.
  9. So people are worried about RR because the good moves he makes every other manager would do the same and the questionable calls that he makes (double switch) are just dumb because we seem to hold Gamel on some kind of pedestal? It was 2 AB's and he allowed a couple bench guys to get some AB's early in the year. Big Whoop.
  10. And we know that Aoki is superior to Ishikawa how? Granted he is probably better but his performance in Japan and ST isn't proof. Other than an occasional day off for Gamel it makes zero sense to start Ishikawa at 1st. He might start against tough righties in the OF occasionally but I just don't see a scenario where he takes anymore than 1-2 starts away from Gamel a month.
  11. If Gonzalez hadn't hit so well in ST I think RR would have already moved Lucroy up to 7th. 7th is probably the absolute highest Lucroy will ever hit in the lineup. Maybe down the road he could hit 2nd but I doubt it.
  12. I guess I can't get to upset about the 25th/26th guy on the roster. If we talking straight pinch hitter I would prefer Ishikawa over Conrad. However if you anticipate the 25th guy having to play in the field more than 1 day a week Conrad makes more sense. Weeks, Gonzalez, and Ramirez probably shouldn't be expected to get anymore than 1 day off per week; so Izturiz probably will play more than I would like and Conrad would have partially solved that problem. But I think it came down to RR liking Ishikawa's bat over Conrad as that is the primary role of the last guy on the bench. Probably another good aspect of keeping Ishikawa is because Izturiz is the only infield replacement that RR will hesitate to use him in any pinch hitting role; obviously a positive since he can't hit a lick.
  13. Damn 100 pounds is pretty impressive; I am happy with 10-15 so far. I can't imagine having to come down from almost 300 on a less than 6 foot frame. It must have been extremely hard at first.
  14. We used to have a Wii but I never got very good at it and I am sure I would have been very awkward trying to do Wii Fit / Biggest Loser. We sold it not to long ago; although when my kids are old enough I would much rather buy a new Wii that requires some exercise rather than a playstation or Xbox. I am training for a 10K in about 6 weeks. So far I have gone from about 255 to 240 in 6 weeks or so and can now run 6 miles non stop on a treadmill and 4 miles outside. I haven't been able to do that in probably 6-7 years. Haven't tried going more than 4 outside yet. I am 6'7" so I am not fat by any means but I still need to get down to around 225 to get back to my playing weight during my athletic days. Lifting weights definitely helped me lose the weight too. It really is amazing how awesome you feel after a good workout or after finishing a 5K for the first time. I completed by first 5K 2 weeks ago and can't wait to try a 10K. I am trying to convince myself to try a 1/2 marathon but man that is a long ways.
  15. I told a buddy who is a Louisville fan that I was expecting this season to not exist in 5 years for Kentucky. I think that is probably a worthwhile bet. That was the most boring NCAA tourney I have ever witnessed; not one single buzzer beating and really the final outcome was never in doubt. Kentucky and their all star team were never threatened.
  16. Do we really need to go down this road already? The season hasn't even started yet!! This is a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. If the Brewers win it will be spite of RR, if they lose it is because RR. Or if they win it will be because RR is genious, and if they lose its because the players underperformed. Around and around the carousel we go.
  17. $200 Million is still a lot for guy not yet in free agency. It is one thing to get a Fielder contract while having a couple teams bidding; its quite another to get a $200 Million contract with no competition. The Reds almost certainly overpaid; definitely in comparison to Braun's most recent extension. Not the most comparable of situations but it is worth looking at. This better be a 10 year extension to justify that kind of financial investment
  18. Grienke has been crazy good this spring; if he keeps this up during the season it would be very wise to get this extension done sooner rather than later. 2 months of sub 3.0 ERA could increase that contract by a couple million a year I imagine. Let him get to free agency and the Brewers don't have a chance; just like with Fielder.
  19. Someone like Lebron, DRose, Wade would have to be hurt. I know they beat the Heat a couple times already this year but come playoff time I just don't see them beating the Heat at full strength. Maybe a game but they could never beat them 4 times. Part of me likes to think they could play a series similar to ATL a couple years ago but this Miami team just doesn't compare at all. I agree with you on the running part. Bucks don't have enough offensive talent to sit in a half court game and hope for good defensive. Bucks have already won to many games to have any chance of a decent pick so I am cheering them to do as well as possible down the stretch. There is no difference between the 10th pick and the 16th pick in the NBA.
  20. Magic Johnson has to have a pretty small share of this investment group right? He can't be worth that much money? His name is being attached to this group for obvious PR reasons but there is no way he is a big time money investor in this.
  21. I don't think it is inconcievable that the Brewers could finish 3rd. There are three really good teams in division and atleast one of them is going to underperform. I hope it isn't the Brewers but obviously it could happen. You could make a very strong case for any of the Brewers, Reds, or Cards.
  22. Well Martin is leaving KSU this year for South Carolina but going from Marquette to Kansas State seems like a lateral move at best. SMU would make no sense; they surely don't have the budget to give him an offer he can't refuse. Buzz is surely a hot commodity and if he does leave marquette it has got to be one of those Top 10 coaching jobs; not SMU.
