  1. So this ranking really didn't take into consideration the actual value of the contracts or anything? Just on talent alone obviously the Angels, Marlins, and Tigers had the best offseason; however the verdict is still out whether those transactions will pay off in the long run I considered the Brewers offseason basically average; as in we more or less should expect a similar year in 2012 that we had in 2011. Maybe 96 wins is asking a little much again but 90 is certainly realistic.
  2. I refuse to get optimistic about this so I don't have a major let down when the bad news comes. I come here every couple of hours expecting to here that he is suspended. That being said the interview with Braun after he wins the appeal would be must see TV and I would very interested in watching the coverage of the "acquittal" on the sports networks by all the various blowhards. I just want to know what the heck happened; the actual outcome of the appeal is almost secondary to me. Yeah him being suspending for 50 games will suck but if he is suspended for some random dumb reason regarding a weird test and not because they guy was doing PED's in his MVP season will make me feel a lot better about the guy going forward.
  3. In the latest JSonline blog RR mentions that Gamel will hit anywhere from 6th to 8th. Please please don't be 8th. It should be Gamel/Lucroy/Gonzalez. Gonzalez better not hit anywhere other than 8th. Putting Gamel in the 8th spot is setting the guy up for failure IMO. It doesn't matter to me if it is Lucroy/Gamel or Gamel/Lucroy but Gonzalez better be 8th.
  4. Yeah we don't have a limit on how many teams you can buy or how much money you can spend. Sure a team could show up with $10,000 and buy every good team but what would be the point? They aren't going to win any money. each team comes in with a budget; some will spend only a couple hundred bucks and look for upset specials; other teams will come in with $2-$3,000 and really try to get a couple #1,2, and 3 seeds. Its all a matter of strategy and funds available Usually the top seed (Like Syracuse or Kentucky this year) would go for $1,200 or so in my auction or you can get a #8 seed for about $20 (Since they would have to beat a #1 seed in the 2nd round to make any money). But if you pay $1,200 for a team; that team has to make it to the Final 4 otherwise you are out a lot of money. Risk/Reward. The champion last year paid out like $3,300. Obviously the more money involved the more exciting it is (Although I enjoy being on a team that has a big budget but my contribution is manageable)
  5. If only I was about 3 inches taller I could be Drew Gooden and be paid a bajillion dollars to not play for someone.
  6. In the NCAA Auction Pool I am in there are approximately 8 teams that consist of anywhere from 1 guy to 5-6 guys that pool there money together. The Auction is exactly that, you pay money for each team. You obviously win a lot of money if you draft teams that make the Final 4; but there are a ton of other ways to make money as well; biggest loser; low seed to advance, Sweet 16, Elite 8, etc. So there is some potential to win money on virtually every team in the field. It really is a lot of fun and makes the tourney very fun to watch.
  7. Every year I am in an March Madness Auction draft; Marquette is going to at the top of my list for 3-5 seeds with the potential to make a Final 4. However given that they are a local team; somebody will pay way more for them than I would be willing to. I am definitely on the Marquette bandwagon even though I have always been a UW fan first.
  8. I get what you are saying there but there are probably 28 other managers in MLB that would do the same thing as RR if they had Krod and Axford in the 8th and 9th. It is just an accepted practice and likely won't change anytime soon. If we had a dominant LOOGY maybe that could changes things a little bit but we certianly won't have that in 2012 in all likelihood
  9. I don't get the Lin thing either. Listen I know its great that some unheralded player has come out of nowhere; but stop pretending like he is the next superstar. His A/TO sucks for a PG and can't make a 3 to save his life. He is just going to be another flash in the pan player that has a good 20 game stretch and then goes back to mediocrity. Bucks have I believe the 10th worst record right now but are within earshot of all but 3 teams. NO, WASH, and CHA are so bad I don't see them winning enough games for the Bucks to catch them. Although NO looked like the better team yesterday. Nice to see that Jennings has already phoned it in for the year; not exactly a positive development. Just start trading whatever pieces you can.
  10. I think a 4 or 5 seed is a lock at this point; but they could sneak into a 3 with a strong finish. I suppose a worst case scenario would be a 6; but they probably need to finish terribly to drop that far. There just aren't that many quality teams this year. Plenty of teams worthy of 1 or 2 seeds; but after that it is a big mess.
  11. UW can get away with those long lulls against teams like Purdue, Illinois, and Minnesota. They can't get away with that in the NCAA tourney when they might have a #4/5 Seed in the 2nd round. UW is a hell of a defensive team; but the lack of offense will hurt them in the end. I have been critical of Evans this year but I will say he has improved dramatically since his freshman year. They will need similar progression from guys like Gasser and Brust next year.
  12. The Bucks recent crappy stretch has everyone talking draft again? I am sure I will flip flop on this team a couple more times in the coming months. At this point the best we can hope for is a #7/#8 seed only to get killed by Chicago or Miami or we miss the playoffs and get lucky and win the lottery. But it is looking more and more like it will be another pick in the #10-15 range.
  13. At this point I am just annoyed and just assume get it over with. My initial shock wore off a long time ago and I just want to get the season started with or without Braun. I am still putting it at 80/20 that he gets suspended for no reason other than my own personal opinion. Someone should just start the countdown to opening day thread so I can habitually check a thread other than this one on BF.
  14. Parks and Rec & 30 Rock were awesome last night; I don't even bother to watch the Office anymore. I used to love the show but have gotten tired of it. IMO Parks & Rec is the best show on TV right now with Ron Swanson being the best character on TV.
  15. So the bloggers at yahoo had there All Star Projections up. Not only do they not have Jennings in the ASG, they don't even have him in there 10 (or so) just missed the cut. Kind of disheartening. When was the last time a Buck even made the All Star Game? I seem to remember Redd making it a time or two but obviously that was several years ago
  16. Jennings deserves to be an All Star but I am sure he will be snubbed for a bigger name. Jenning's progression from last year to this year has been amazing. He is really turning into one of those cornerstone type players. I still am not sure what to make of this team; it appears they can beat anybody if they play well but could they beat any of the Top 4 in the East in a 7 game series? Seems a little unlikely to me.
  17. I still don't understand why UW makes no effort at all to drive the lane. They are so content to pass the ball along the perimeter for 30 seconds it is maddening. Every once in a while they will give Berggren a touch down low but not nearly enough. UW has enough good shooters that a drive and kick every once in a while will be effective. Plus they are great FT shooters; get in the lane and draw some darn fouls. But it seems Taylor is the only one that knows how to get in the lane and only he does it if he has to. I really don't mind Bo's style of Bball; but I think he could work a little creativity into the offense.
  18. Lawrie 2011 Offseason >>>>>>>>>> Lawrie 2010 Offseason Lawrie dramatically increased his value this past year; Melvin would have gotten laughed at if he asked for someone like Pineda during the 2010 offseason. Yeah maybe if we would have held onto Lawrie we could have just traded for Pineda; but no one really knows the answer to that and no one knows how much differently our 2011 team would have looked if we kept Lawrie. Hell we probably would have traded him for Grienke anyways.
  19. I hope that we need just two expensive starters in 2013 (Gallardo & Grienke) and that some of our newly founded minor league pitching depth emerges as bonafide #1-#3 materials in 2012. I would hate to spend to0 much money on the rotation.
  20. I tend to agree with you but I don't know that the Brewer's current situation is a permanent one. Basically I question the franchise's ability to sustain 3 million fans year in year out regardless of performance. Sure if they can keep attendance up that high even when they suck I would consider them a mid market team; but they would very quickly turn into a small market team again if they have a couple bad years in a row. Traditionally speaking they are still the definition of a small market team though; isn't Milwaukee the smallest metro market in MLB?
  21. Ryan Evans really needs to stop shooting. He just can't make that 10-15 FT jumper. Badgers are playing better and are looking more like a #5 or #6 seed in the NCAA tourney right now. At that level I don't think it matters who they play they will be considered prime to be upset; and I can't necessarily disagree with that. This team still screams 1 and done to me; sure they can get hot but they can also be brutal on any given day.
  22. I still don't think this team will be bad enough to get a Top #5 pick. Detroit, Washington, Charlotte, New Orleans, and Sacramento seem to be locks to be worse than the Bucks and then teams like Cleveland, New Jersey, Toronto, & Golden State are all capable of tanking as well. My prediction is a #6 or #7.
  23. So were the Rangers. The Rangers were one stinkin strike away from the WS title.
  24. So there was maybe one guy who thought Paul was a #1 pick. In general everyone was pretty content that the Bucks took the best player available that year. I was only implying the Bucks were unlucky in that they just happened to luck into #1 pick in a year where there was no clear #1 pick and no a clear superstar in the bunch. In hindsight Paul has turned into one but the Bucks and Paul were never even in the same sentence in that draft so it is a little unfair to say they dropped the ball. Paul was a consensus #3-6 type player The NBA draft is maddening; it seems like every player taken after #5 is a project type player. It seems virtually no players are ready to step in an contribute heavily right away.
  25. I will also add that if Freese is anything near what he was in the postseason; him and Aram might be neck and neck. Also it it very close between Phillips and Weeks, I wouldn't give either one a clear edge. Basically I think you have 3 very evenly matched teams
