  1. PIT left DE egregiously lined up in neutral zone on that 2nd & 10 from the 23, no call, right in front of a line judge. We got a first down on that play, but still...
  2. I guess when the penalty can't be assessed from the spot of the foul like that, it's logical that it would be assessed from where the returner fielded the punt since the entire return could have benefited from the hold. Ref must have just slipped up on the announcement.
  3. If the ref said "end of the run", it should have been "from the spot of the foul" The hold occurred much further ahead of the ball carrier, shortly past the line of scrimmage when the gunner was being held just after the play got started, so assessing the penalty from the spot of the foul wouldn't be appropriate. EDIT: I should say, not just ahead of the ball carrier, but ahead of where the play ended.
  4. I don't understand the enforcement of the holding penalty on the punt. Returner caught it at GB 46, advanced about 11 yards to the PIT 45. Was supposed to be 10 yard penalty from the end of the run, but the ball was spotted at the GB 36.
  5. Looked pretty definitive that he said, "that's not a strike". Sortof getting in a last word with a know-it-all attitude before walking off to the dugout. Re-watched it a few times, doesn't look at all like a question about the last pitch. Ump coulda let it go easily, but not totally surprised to see him tossed.
  6. Counterpoint, players should have a thicker skin on the imperfections of calling balls/strikes. A called strike that's an inch below the pencil-thin outline we see on screen seems within acceptable margin of error to me.
  7. Did you know this kid played little Michael Anthony in Van Halen's Hot For Teacher video? It checks out. Incredible. Also one of the paperboys in Better Off Dead, apparently. All these great credits to his name and yet the poor guy still doesn't merit a Wikipedia page.
  8. Every single time I see Harrison Bader, I think of this character from A Christmas Story:
  9. Watching a replay of last night's game... Top of the 10th, Dillard drops a seamless "you don't win friends with salad" reference in describing the 1st base ump's unpopularity following a questionable check swing call. Fan for life.
  10. #4/#5 starters with a 3.75 ERA are pretty valuable. They are, but a pitcher going 5 and 2/3 innings giving up 3 ER is a 4.75 ERA, no? Kinda wild how thin the line is compared to 6 innings and 2.5 ER being 3.75 ERA.
  11. Quick poll, do you define "batting around" as 9 guys coming to the plate in an inning or 10 guys? Internet seems mixed. Our broadcasters use the 9 guys definition and it drives me nuts. The 10th guy should have to come to the plate for it to be coming "around" full circle back to how the offense started the inning. I feel like the 9 guys definition is like saying the big hand on the clock went around when it only went from the 12 to the 11.
  12. Great thread! Rush - Temples of Syrinx Fates Warning - Guardian Savatage - Edge of Thorns Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt 1 Angel Dust - Bleed Nevermore - Believe in Nothing Theocracy - I Am Megadeth - Tornado of Souls Iron Maiden - Alexander the Great Angra - Carry On Sonata Arctica - White Pearl, Black Oceans ETA: A newer one, from the last couple years, that will probably go down as a classic... Unleash the Archers - Awakening
  13. Can't find video to confirm the awesomeness I remember, but I always think of Gabe Kapler's leaping catch into the stands to rob a home run.
  14. Recycling partnership. Hopefully it ends up being impactful and isn't a program that just sounds nice on the surface but yields a net negative for the environment after all variables are factored. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2020/01/24/brewers-sc-johnson-announce-plastic-waste.amp.html
  15. Glad the word 'insurance' isn't in the name. Not a big fan of '... Field', feel like '... Ballpark' would have been better. I think we're fortunate that this corporate name lends itself pretty well to a stadium. Many folks outside thre region probably won't be familiar with the company, so it will just have a generally wholesome ring to it, like Great American Ballpark. Am Fam Clam is amazing Strangely, the name Miller Park never seemed exactly right to me. Loved the connection to Miller, and got accustomed to it over time, but I don't know... something about the two words not fitting just right. ETA: An important factor with the new sponsorship will be how understated vs gaudy the new signage will be. Hopefully it's done in a classy manner.
  16. This one hit hard. Spent more than a couple hours over the weekend just reading heartfelt social media tributes and glowing articles from standard media outlets, and exchanging text messages with friends/family (dad) about the man, myth, legend of Neil Peart. Emotional at times. While I greatly appreciated Peart's talent as a percussionist, I absolutely adored his work as a lyricist. Purely brilliant poetry -- insightful, smart, touching, thought-provoking, mature, compelling -- each line so carefully crafted. It doesn't get any better, IMO. BTW- When it comes to thinking about what other rock drummers are in the ballpark of Peart, I never really think of guys like Moon or Bonham. To me, they're like including Mustang and Camaro on a list of the world's greatest performance cars. I tend to think of the more virtuoso prog rock guys that were Peart's contemporaries like Bruford, Bozzio, Palmer, even Alan White, and some of the prog metal guys that came after him like Portnoy, Jarzombek, Mangini, and Zonder.
  17. Pretty sure that punt was getting blocked anyways. Free defender from the edge looked like he was getting home on every replay.
  18. Milw Rec Dept offered a Cyber Monday discount again this year, so I went ahead and signed us up for 2020 already. Roll call...? *If any other BF board members are interested in joining the team this year, we usually have a couple open spots. Please feel free to reply in this thread or drop me a PM. Games are Thursday nights in Bay View, Milwaukee, start times are usually 6:30/7:30/8:30, for a 10-week stretch from mid-May to late-July. It's a social/recreational league.
  19. Laughably bad strike 3 call on Correa for out number 1 in the Astros 8th. Seven inches inside and the home plate ump was lined up right over it. Impossibly bad.
  20. Was this shown on the FSN broadcast? I feel like I've seen every bit of the postgame coverage, but didn't catch this.
