Johny Estrada. He's my least favorite player by a mile. Sub .300 OBP, zero hustle, is slower than molasses Egads and Amen. I just about cried when I saw that play the other night where Theriot (?) got upended at second base and made a throw to 1st that bounced at least a half a dozen times, and Estrada was still out by 20-25 feet. That is almost the defining picture of what the Brewers are putting out on the field right now.

I know I posted a bunch of things in the minor league forum and it quickly turned into why Balfour is better than McClung. The biggest difference between the 2 for me is that McClung has never been productive in MLB, while Balfour was a decent MLB pitcher before getting hurt. I wouldn't say I would rather have Balfour than McClung, however, independent of McClung, I think the way Balfour was handled was horrible at best.

I think Steve Stone is correct quite often. This is not one of those times. Talent is such a vague word, though. As far as "proven" talent goes, though, they have the Brewers licked Brilliant post Brett and I agree 100% -- The Brewers are very much lacking in the veteran talent department. I don't know if this was what Stone was speaking to, but it is something I have definitely compared the Brewers to the Cubs and the Cards in an unfavorable light.

I mean, who would you rather have starting, Vargas or Capuano? Agreed -- I think that Villy won't fare any better than Cappy has either. My guess is that the only way Yost will effectively use his players until he is fired is as human shields to deflect blame from himself.

McClung has looked like the man he was traded for...Balfour. The difference being that they have used him better -- early on when he struggled the games were out of reach -- and now he is pitching to one/two batters -- it seems like they are doing a better job letting him get settled in.

I still don't see how pitching for the DRays is "easier" -- certainly pitching against them would be, not for them though

I say this honestly because I look at the numerous trades and key hires he has made that did indeed improve the club. The talent level has increased each year, while the results have not. Melvin has improved the club -- but that may have happened more to MA getting onboard -- at the end of the day -- still haven't produced a winner.

I would look at the team that is currently playing the best and check out their IGTs.

I'm a man, I have 2 emotions: Happy and angry. Wow -- My 2 emotions are "Hungry" and "gorged".

He has 6 BB's in the 8 1/3 IP so its not like he's really pitched well, ERA just isn't a useful stat over such a small sample. He has a 1.32 WHIP 11Ks in 8.1 IP -- While it is not dominant or anything -- I'd take those 8.1 IP over 8.1 from most of the Brewers in the pen. Regardless of whether you think ERA is or is not useful, Balfour has done pretty decent since getting DFA'd by the Brewers. He really got mishandled here in Milw.

HIJACK ALERT. Here is my latest theory on Corey Hart -- You remember in the classic movie "Office Space" -- when the Bobs start giving Michael Bolton crap about the ******** who shares his same name. I have to think that much like Michael Bolton on Office Space -- Corey has to be sick and tired of being referenced to the sucktacular artist in the 80s who made crappy songs like Never Surrender, and Sunglasses at Night. My guess is that when Corey Hart finally snaps it will because someone told him to "Never Surrender" or asked him "Why aren't you wearing sunglasses, it's a night game?"

I'm getting tired of this same old blame the manager gig. I am not blaming Ned for our WOAHS, rather I think he has overall done a bad job in his position these last 5 years and he should be replaced. For god's sake it's the pitching and defense (among other things the PLAYERS DO) that has lost games. Managers have lost and do lose games as well. look at Maddux and Castro Maddux and Castro can get blame but Ned can't? -- I would assume getting rid of Ned would get rid of his whole goon platoon. Rickie Weeks' lack of flat out production, Weeks has produced poorly, and certainly I would advocate looking for an upgrade for his roster spot -- however, this doesn't make the job Ned did better or worse. Sheets missing about 9 starts Every team has had injuries -- Phillies-Utley; Cards-Mulder/Carpenter; Cubs-Soriano -- I think that the Brewers have done a pretty good job staying healthy this year Cappy, who's a finese pitcher and couldn't knock the clown into the dunk tank from 10 feet away for the past year and a half and so on Cappy performed poorly and got replaced -- I would hope that the same would happen to Ned.

It's much easier to pitch for the "out of the race in May Devil Rays" in August/September than in the middle of a division race in July/August. I don't think this is the case -- esp. if you are facing teams like BOS and NYY, CLE etc...

Linebrick hasn't worked out the best, but asking why we needed him is a rather silly question. No -- It's a reasonable question, not silly at all for a couple of reasons. 1.) 12/13th pitcher. Linebrink was in essence an upgrade of our 12th pitcher, Chris Spurling. As we all know in MLB, there are a non-trivial number of games in a season where you either blow someone out, or you get blown out. This is what your #12 pitcher is for -- If you are losing 10-2 in the 3rd -- you can have a pitcher go 5IP and give up 4ER -- I think we all agree that the Brewers did not need to get Linebrink to do mop-up duty that Spurling should have been doing. Now, if you want to counter my argument, with the claim that Ned cannot manage a 13 man or 12 man bullpen correctly, and that Yost needs to have 8 prototypical setup men to be successful, I would concede that point. 2.) SP -- Even if Linebrink was pitching well, our starting pitching still remains our biggest problem. It may have been better to get another starter, or perhaps a LR pitcher like the one we gave up in Dessens (who is actually pitching well in COL). I am not advocating or claiming that Dessens is better than Linebrink, but rather, if you have big holes in your rotation, it doesn't make much sense to patch up your BP, unless it is long-relief. 3.) Joe Thatcher -- You have to wonder why a team like SD, in a pennant and WC race would be willing to trade a great set-up man and replace him with Joe Thatcher. The answer of course is that they didn't trade a great set-up man, they traded Scott Linebrink, who has seen better days. I am guess that DM over-valued Linebrink just a tad. It seems to me that the Pads could care less about Inman, and are thrilled to have replaced Linebrink with Thatcher. If you look at Linebrink's gamelog -- you can see right about around the end of June he really has not performed well. 4.) Draft Pick(s) -- I understand that the draft picks are a nice little bonus -- If Linebrink keeps pitching like he has in July and August -- we will probably get 1 pick instead of 2. However, if DM made this trade (I dont think he did) strictly to gather up draftpicks it shows you where his head is at, and it isn't 2007. Thatcher has been better than Linebrink so far (Linebrink has given up runs in 4 out of his last 5 appearances, and has gotten 3 losses). Are those losses+Thatcher/Inman worth the draft pick(s)? That is a question one needs to ponder. Now a guy has a couple of bad games and we call it the worst deal ever. 77 -- He has given up runs in 4 of his last 5 appearances and has gotten 3 losses -- I wouldn't say that it is the worst deal ever, but it is hardly paying us dividends. Linebrink has cost us games (in a short amount of time) in a pennant race. Certainly there have been other factors in our losses, but Linebrink has not had an overall positive impact, and at the end of the day -- I don't think that draft pick will be worth the losses in 2007 (as well as losing Thatcher/Inman)

He (Villy) had a start on the 24th (4IP) -- Maybe he is going to make a start Wed or Thurs. for the Brewers?

I don't know if it's only a receiver change, but for some reason I thought my parents also had a new dish installed when they went HD. I think you have to get a dish as well. I am also curious if the new receivers have any capabilities to interface with PCs so I could make DVDs of games and the such.
