  1. The title of this thread should lose the latter 1/2 of it's name.
  2. Honestly, at this point the "hardest" of our 4 announcers to listen to is Ueck. On Saturday I was listening to the 9th inning of Sheets shutout, and with a few men on, someone (Venable?) hit what Ueck called a "liner to right". I thought the shutout was gone and I was pissed...it wasn't till a few seconds later that he mentioned that the ball was foul. This is now the norm. BA and Rock are fine and have developed a good relationship. I think it's funny how Schroeder hasn't quite grasped the concept of the Aflac trivia question...You're not supposed to give away the answer if you know it! Powell is just spectacular. He's clear, crisp, knowledgable, and never misses a play. Not to mention he's rather witty.
  3. I'm a Packer fan and Brewer fan equally, but tomorrow goes Packers, Weeds, Brewers, in that order. I'll be following the Crew on Gameday and maybe flipping over during Packers commercials, but tomorrow is just too important of a night to not follow the Packers. + A break from the Brewers would probably be good for me.
  4. Don't forget it all started with Manny giving Chris Young a meat pitch
  5. Many props to that kid! I especially like the end and the '82 / '08 shots.
  6. Since last Sunday we have scored 2, 5, 2, 2, 3, and 1 run for an average of 2.5 runs a game (including a few extra inning games). Last year that's a 6 game losing streak...just shows how great our starting pitching has been since June. Go Brewers!
  7. Also, the "Make Some Noise" in every semi-key situation. Miller Park gets loud enough when it matters...this isn't Arizona or Houston where the scoreboard needs to tell us when to cheer.
  8. I've also heard you should eat your least favorite foods right before chemo, to avoid associating good food with the nausea and thus developing an aversion. Best o' luck.
  9. This thread has gotten me thinking about the enormous pressure on guys like Hart, Hardy, Fielder, Weeks, Braun...A few years ago these players were (rightfully) hailed as the bright future of the Brewers organization that would bring the franchise back to the promised land. Failure in '06 could be attributed to injuries and general lack of talent. '07 could be spun as a "practice run" of what a pennant race is like, but there really are no excuses this year. I'd imagine the potential weight of letting down the franchise and the hero-worshiping fans is immense on these kids. (Others may disagree, but I definitely still see them as "kids")
  10. I guess it's a good thing that even after getting swept, our BP odds report still has us at around 92.5%. IIRC we were at around 94-95% after the Pittsburgh series. Thanks Phils, Cubs, and Cardinals for sucking just as bad as us. Bring on the Friars...
  11. Not to mention MP food is TASTY. Brats w/ special sauce, Chorizo, Cheese Fries, Tofu Casserole...
  12. Way to give us a chance, Bush...
  13. Here comes the collapse...
  14. Per billjamesonline.com, Prince is hitting .346 / .500 / .829 with 7 homer runs in 52 so-called "clutch" AB's. This is how Bill James defines it: A hitter's performance in the most critical situations. Like obscenity, a "clutch situation" may be best defined as "I know it when I see it." The determinants here are the things that make you feel it in your gut, including the lateness of the inning, the closeness of the score, the number of outs and men on base, the stage of the season, and the importance of the opponent.
  15. Using Gagne with Wright, Beltran, and Delgado up there in the 8th tonight was just inexcusable. 79 homers by those 3 this year and we have them face a guy who has given up 10 homers in just 35 innings. I don't care that he got out of the inning...that was just playing with fire.
  16. It's a special day when a guy makes his major league debut...I almost feel bad for hoping he gets lit up.
  17. Kendall looked pretty pissed in the postgame. He said something like "What do you want me to say, I'm pissed." I hope the appeal is granted sometime tomorrow between 1-4 so that CC can get the curtain call and standing O that he deserves.
  18. These are hard to write At least it's easy to say Gorzelanny sucks
  19. Another funny article from the Brewers writer at Bugs and Cranks about last night's "situation": You Gots to Chill
  20. Miller Park is fun, and I'm glad people are having fun at the games. Who cares if many fans don't remember Chris Magruder? I've lived with Wisconsin sports fans ever since going to college, and it's rare when a Brewer game isn't on in our house. We have people over quite often, so naturally, our guests get a fair share of Brewers (and Packers, Badgers, Bucks...). It takes more than one hand to count how many of our non-sports fan friends have gone from not caring to buying jerseys and going to games with us. That's not because we make people or are convincing, it's because the Brewers are exciting and baseball is exciting. This "bandwagon" has plenty of room and all are welcome.
  21. The Cardinals have gone from being one of my "other" teams to a bunch of self-righteous punks. You've got Glaus throwing hissy fits because he can't pull the trigger on an 80 mph meat pitch...you've got Braun getting plunked for looking at a homer...and you've got Villy getting called a piece of you-know-what and almost getting attacked because of a fist pump...And now we're getting "advice" from the Cardinals and their writers on how to wear our jerseys after wiping the Busch Stadium grass with them? Ok, yeah, I get it...
  22. 'Ol Nedly will probably finish in the top 3... LaRussa...probably won't win if the Cards don't make the playoffs. I also don't think he is a great manager (see awesome H + R last night) whose reputation is all that he has going for him. Gonzalez...Meh. He's leading a team barely over .500 that wasn't supposed to be that terrible to begin with. J. Manuel...If the Mets make the playoffs...I'd give it to him. Taking over an underachieving team and getting to the postseason (especially with that bullpen) is pretty impressive. Pinella...the default choice at this point. Probably deserves it, too.
  23. As a semi-aside, is anyone in the league more underappreciated than Pat Burrell? .261/.382/.540 with 30 homers! I was miffed that he didn't make the AS team in that market and I believe he deserves at least some MVP consideration.
  24. From the "duh" file: A. Ramirez, Zambrano, Sheffield, Jeff Kent Others: Youkilis, Pence, Valverde (although he is entertaining...), Juan Pierre
