  1. Over/under on how many times BA and Rock attribute bad hitting to the Angel Stadium twilight?
  2. Gallardo's 4.4 BB/9 is currently the best ratio in our starting rotation. Sad. Come on Crew, let's see one of those Ted Lilly hissy fits.
  3. Come on now...we'll be okay. 15-12 2+2+4=8
  4. The process of allowing fans to vote virtually as much as they want to decide All-Star rosters is already a "shamockery." Might as well vote for 9 Brewers... Oh, and Russell Branyan. Best 1B in the American League, BY FAR.
  5. If Axford's career never amounts to anything, he'll still be able to tell people that the All-time saves leader set HIM up.
  6. Trevor looked really good there. Great location. I'd say leave him out there, but it looks like its gonna be Axford. Hopefully he's refreshed after that 5th inning power nap...
  7. I thought about this thread last week after that Chris Carpenter / Carlos Lee incident. For those that didn't see what happened, Carlos Lee hit a pop up and slammed his bat out of frustration. Carpenter didn't appreciate the gesture and started barking at him. Benches cleared, but nothing major happened. LaRussa postgame: “Routinely now, hitters pop up a pitch that they think they should do something with and they start making noises,” said Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. “That really is disrespectful to the pitcher. Most of the pitchers just turn around and ignore it and Carp’ doesn’t. I think Carp is in the right. I think the respect should go both ways." Ahh, LaRussa and the "respect" card. This reminded me of Albert Pujols whining about Carlos Villanueva's fist pump and yell after getting a bases-loaded inning-ending popup in 2008. St Louis has some great players that are really fun to watch...too bad they make it so hard to root for them. Edit: Link to Article
  8. Anderson is fine, even above average. Multiple weekends of Craig Coshun have certainly reinforced that.
  9. The Braves don't score many runs, but they are 2nd in baseball and 1st in the NL at drawing walks...generally not good news for DD. Was hoping to see Jody in the lineup tonight. I'd much rather see him than Inglett or Edmonds.
  10. I'd rather be Mark Buehrle and have both... But if I had to choose, I'd pick a perfect game. We've had 2 in the past 10 months so it can be easy to forget that 27 up 27 down has only happened 19 times EVER. No hitters are awesome, but a little overrated in my opinion (especially when a guy walks 5+ batters).
  11. Been playing The Show '10 on PS2 the last few weeks. IMO it's basically indistinguishable from '09, except for the rosters. A few of the ratings are a little off. Gamel, as mentioned above, is vastly underrated. Suppan, as always, is completely overrated. In each of the last few editions of the game, I've flirted with perfect games with Soup, but nobody else really. The speed ratings are a little off too. According to the Show, JJ Hardy is just as fast as Ryan Braun. The Yankees are just too good...something like 28-8 at this point in the season. Jeter and Posada especially are given WAY to much credit. One feature I really like is the video intro. Different versions of it show highlights from the crazy year that was '09, including Buehrle's perfect game, Willingham's two Salamis against the Crew, and Fielder's awesome celebration after the walkoff.
  12. Holy crap, just saw a replay of that final DP. Boy, did Hoffman get away with one right there. Changeup, up in the zone, with Upton at the dish. Can't imagine the state this thread if he hits it out...
  13. 1. Cubs 2. Twins 3. Cardinals 4. Red Sox 5. Yankees. Oh, and I think cnycerveceros nailed it about the logo. I'd be embarrassed to cheer for a team that wears that. Thank goodness my team is represented by beer and beer-makers.
  14. From Bill Simmons: "I am expecting one of the great basketball crowds of the past 15 years in Milwaukee on Friday night. Just know that if it wasn't my daughter's birthday this weekend, I would have walked from Los Angeles to be at that game. OK, not really. But I would have done just about anything. Maybe for Round 2. Hold your heads high, people of Milwaukee. You proved this season that small market basketball can work with the right group of fans." If you're lucky enough to be at the Bradley Center tonight, prove him right. This should be fun.
  15. Before you go inside, walk around the lots and take in the tailgating atmosphere.
  16. Wow, absolutely no good news coming out of the MLB today. I chatted with Stan while in the LF bleachers during a game last August. Based on that, and his in-game interviews with Brian and Bill, he seems like a real class act. Best wishes for a fast recovery.
  17. Jimenez was awesome yesterday, no doubt about it. But, his 6 walks got me thinking. Which would you be more impressed by: A no-hitter with 6 walks, or a one-hitter (single) with 0 walks? The latter obviously yields fewer baserunners, and I would probably consider it a better pitching performance, but there's also something to seeing 0-0-0 on the scoreboard next to the other team.
  18. Holy crap, Is Hawkins capable of NOT throwing the ball RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE when he's got two strikes on a guy? Or is Zaun the one calling those? Absolutely pathetic. We blew it.
