  1. Depends on your definition of "greatest." If we're talking about the greatest play with the most at stake, I don't think it can be anything other than Willy Mays' catch and throw at the Polo Grounds in the 1954 World Series.
  2. Most projections I've seen predict an average career. Even if he's the next Berkman, however, I can't really argue with the deal...the summer of CC was magical and without him: no playoffs. Besides, wasn't LaPorta drafted specifically for the purpose of being the main piece in a CC-type deal?
  3. The boys are back. Derek Jeter, David Eckstein and "scrappiness," and a pointless mlb.com article are the latest subjects of their snarky scorn. Enjoy
  4. It was funny?Yes it was, plus it was unique, and even Mr. Old School Ken Macha thought it was funny (Despite what he says, one of the replays shows that he seems to be enjoying himself in the background). Hearing the Billy Ripkins and John Harts and Torii Hunters complaining about this reminds me of the Joe Morgan arrogance that FJM and Bill James would point out among the "old boys club" of Major League Baseball. Maybe I'm still a little young, but I'm glad we have emotional players like Prince and Braun to help drive out this stupid baseball puritanism.
  5. 57/95 here, though it should be 56. At one point I was stumped and randomly through out the name "Hernandez" and it worked.
  6. I am enjoying... -Braun, Fielder, and Gallardo -Seeing Trevor frickin' Hoffman wearing #51 for the Brewers -The Kid at SS -Going to games -Going to games and heckling Wladimir Balentien -Tailgating
  7. Kinda lame that it took Macha to feel that his job was in jeopardy to realize that Kendall and Rivera should at least be splitting time.
  8. Just based on memory, I know that in '07 we played on FOX Saturday Baseball at least twice, once dominating the Cubs at Wrigley and then getting shutout by some guy named Lincecum at Miller Park. We also played on ESPN a couple times that year, the only one I specifically remember was beating the Cardinals at Miller Park in the first game after Josh Hancock's death. We were on FOX Saturday something like five times last year, and I remember we lost at Boston, won at Atlanta (CC dominated), lost to the Cubs on the second to last day of the season, and lost one earlier in the year to STL (loss and blown save credited to Mr. Eric Gagne), and lost to the Reds in Cinci during our September swoon. We were also on ESPN for Opening Day last year (a win, though distressing), and the 1st game of the legendary July sweep in St. Louis (blacked out in Wisconsin). I'm sure we were on ESPN midweek at least a few more times, but don't remember how we performed. This year's nationally televised games have sucked, losing once on FOX (today), twice on ESPN Sunday Night, and once on MLB network. It doesn't help that the losses have been kind of embarassing...the Cubs loading up on RBI BB's, the Mourneau GS, Parra's performance today, etc. We were on national TV a lot less before '07, so some of those games stick out more vividly to me. I'm pretty sure Prince's demolition of the Giants' backup catcher in '06 was an ESPN day game, and I think we beat up on the Rockies pretty good during an '05 ESPN game. I think we also played the last '06 Saturday at St. Louis on FOX and lost. I'm sure there have been more Nationally televised games than I mentioned, like the one's Ennder posted, but there just doesn't seem to be any kind of trend, and why would there be? It's not like a different logo hanging from under the press box is going to change how our guys play.
  9. The answer I have is: 1st and 2nd. Nobody Out. Batter hits a popup. Infield fly rule. 1 out. Runner on first passes runner on second. He's automatically out. 2 down. The popup then comes back to earth via the 3rd baserunner's noggin. He's automatically out. 3 down.
  10. How can a team turn a triple play without a fielder ever touching the ball?
  11. It's gonna take more than Peavy to turn the Sox rotation around. Sans Buerhle that rotation has been gawdawful. We knew Peavy was getting moved. So glad its to an AL team.
  12. Maybe next time Braun should try skipping, instead of making a snow angel. Cub fans should surely find that acceptable. Little would make me laugh more than seeing Braun hopskip on a flyball to left for the final out of a Brewers win at Wrigley.
  13. Hate to see Rickie being too upset to talk about it much. He's having a solid year so far. So does this basically move Counsell to second and open the door for a Hall/Gamel platoon?
  14. How can you look at LaRussa trying to walk the line and say that .08 is "excessively low?" Nobody near that state should be anywhere near the wheel, especially if he really was "tired." Better safe than sorry when you're combining alcohol and 2 tons of moving metal. Anyway, yeah, the Cardinals and their fans suck. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. I honestly don't care if Rickie said we have "swagger." If teams get pissed at us for uniform decision, so what? What are they gonna do? Whine about it in interviews? Throw inside and give our guys free men on base? If our guys start throwing bats, cussing out umpires, and making childish and vindictive statements to the press like our Redbelt Redbird friends and fans have been doing (and to be fair, like Braun did in the Pirates series), then I'll start getting upset about the "swagger." But no, they're just untucking their shirts. Seriously, they are untucking their shirts. What is the big deal?
  16. What's DeFelice's % strikes thrown? It's gotta be around %80-85...
  17. The only Cubs-Brewers games I've been to in the past 5 years have been at Wrigley or during a day game at Miller Park. In contrast, I go to a ton of weeknight games as tickets are easier to get and I feel the crowd is more "baseball-conscious" than on a weekend. Still, sitting in the bleachers for those games isn't really a family-appropriate experience either. Is this really a Brewers-Cubs issue or a drunken baseball fans thing? Remember this isn't just a Milwaukee problem either...go to either of the Chicago stadiums, NY, Philly, Baltimore, SF-LA for that rivalry, etc. and you get the same or much worse.
  18. Good idea. If I went to any of the games I would give him an extended standing ovation. I hope fans realize how important his homer was.
  19. It's early but the 2009 numbers definitely don't put Rickie at leadoff either. I say we ride Corey's newfound patience in the 1-hole as long as he's walking 13 times a month. Either way, we have options, and unlike Yost I think that Macha can be trusted with multiple choices http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Yesterday's homer was why everyone fell in love with Rickie in 2005...insanely quick wrists.
  20. Not to get off topic, but all time is time you never get back. Anyway, the videos are pretty cool, but is there any way to get the FSWi feed? They did a great job showing his first entrance (I can't believe I'm giving props to FSWi!)
  21. Uff da, I need to turn in my Brewers' Fan card! I only knew he was born in Mexico and assumed he grew up there--I also live out of market and Extra Innings never gives the pre- or post-game shows, so I've never actually heard the guy speak. Well, I pulled out my media guide and yes sir--he graduated from Trimble Tech in Texas. I apologize, Yo! (Lo Siento, if you prefer!) At times its hard to tell that he even has an accent. He's pretty fluent. No need to apologize to Yo. He didn't read your response: "I don't really go on the internet. I spend most of my time at the field and with my family." (paraphrase)
  22. The D'Backs are cold. Reynolds is really their only guy putting up any kind of numbers and they don't really walk (hear that, Soup?)
  23. I'm not sure that that's a good idea. The umpires are probably expecting it tonight and could eject whatever pitcher we use to throw at a Pirate. So using the starting pitcher doesn't seem like a good idea to me.Especially not with everyone's favorite first inning struggler, Mr. Bush. Even vs. the Pirates, I don't wanna see a runner on to start the game. Honestly, though, it irks me that their Yankee-reject pitcher can drill one of our guys and we basically need to sit back and take it or risk ejection / suspension.
  24. By the way, the Brewers have never had a player walk 100 times in a season, although Jeromy Burnitz walked 99 times in 2000.Heck, Fielder and Braun could both do it this year, although I'd still put Fielder at around 85-90 and Braun at about 70. We shall see...
