  1. Definitely, and I think it is especially so when on the same roster with a catcher with a good offense, no-field reputation.
  2. Everyone knows the Cardinals have the classiest, best fans in baseball! I mean, they humbly remind everyone of this point throughout the ribbon boards of their stadium, and the fans at Busch are gracious enough to go out of their way to point this out as well. I'm sure Franklin did something totally unclassy like not pitch well or smile or drive sober or something equally un-Cardinals like. In fact, I'm sure the only classy thing Cardinals fans could do in response to such a transgression would be to boo.
  3. This is pretty much how I feel. I'll watch them and root for them if I'm in a sports mood and nothing else is on, but even in 2001 the Bucks didn't get me as excited as the Badgers, Packers, or Brewers ever have. Whatever excitement there was left with Ray.
  4. I know they have to switch out the home plate ump, but did they have to bring in Eric Gregg? That pitch to McGehee wasn't even close.
  5. Considering how low I set my expectations for his D, I think he's actually been okay. Better arm, release, and athleticism than I had anticipated, but any ball to his left or right and it looks like he's running in sand. Overall, I think he just may avoid being the worst regular in baseball, which is actually more than I expected.
  6. Damn, doesn't look good for a game tonight. I think I'm somehow destined never to watch Marcum pitch.
  7. I think it's funny that Chicago almost blew a 5-run lead last night.
  8. Considering the Cubs put up a 5-spot in one inning the night before, Quade has no place to complain. (And yes, he isn't happy about what happened, he's just being less direct than Pinella or Baker would've been)
  9. That call is amazing. Ueck has sounded great this year - great energy, he's sharp, and sounds healthy. After missing part of 2010, I could see Ueck being worth 4-5 Wins above Replacement and pushing the Crew into the playoffs this year.
  10. 12 hits, 12 Ks, and 0 walks in 7 innings for Garza in his last start. Weird. Very weird. If he pounds the zone like that (80 strikes, 26 balls) against the Crew, I could actually see someone like Gomez or Yuni hitting one out.
  11. I'm in Madison with Charter, so I had no chance to catch the game last night. However, MLB Network went "inside the park" in the 9th inning with the Cubs broadcast so we were able to catch Weeks and Gomez final ABs. This seems like the only chance to watch the Crew when they are blacked out outside of Milwaukee. The Bucks can't finish their season soon enough...
  12. Sigh. I know this isn't technically any different from other 4 game losing streaks, but when there's a big fat "0" in the win column, it sure feels pretty crappy. Bad situational hitting, meatballs from Saito, and some unfortunate luck (Betancourt's 400 ft. 2B vs. Uggla's 370 ft. HR), and here we are at 0-4.
  13. Brewers bust out today. Narve goes 6 solid, offense chases Beachy in the 4th, Morgan introduces himself to Milwaukee with 2 extra base hits and a diving catch in right, McGehee hits his first homer of 2011, and Axford holds off a late Atlanta rally by striking out the side in the 9th (despite two walks). Brewers win, 8-5.
  14. I like the move, but I'm hoping Morgan can fix his awful stolen base numbers before he gets plugged in to our new approach: 34/ 51 on SB attempts with 7 (!) pick-offs in 2010
  15. Get your injuries out of the way early. Signed, 2010 Green Bay Packers. BTW, how is Zack rehabbing this? I imagine he won't be able to pick up a ball for a while...how long until his pitching stamina gets to 100%? I'm late to this thread - apologies if already discussed...
  16. I'm sorry, but it's a terrible choice for Axford's intro music. Would people really get pumped up listening to this? It's a good song and all, but it's terrible for this purpose.I think it could work. It builds up gradually to a great climax, but it does take a while to get there. Could probably be combined with some sort of video intro. Whatever the song is, when its over, the 45,000 fans there in game 7 of the WS should be ready to go to war.
  17. I think he rushed it so that it wouldn't get blocked - he still had plenty of time. Had he waited and set himself up for a good shot, Stu Douglass has got a good chance to fly in and block it. Screw Michigan, by the way. I don't feel sorry at all for beating them in the most painful way possible and basically destroying their tourney chances. See you in the NIT.
  18. I like Wainwright, but my first thought was "wow this is awesome for the Brewers." Let's not feel too sorry for the guy...he has a ring and got the final out of the World Series, something only a few guys can claim.
  19. Two things: 1. Kevin was already my favorite secondary character, but he's been amazing this season. During PDA especially, but his line last night about entering the movie in a carnival had me in stitches. 2. Since it doesn't have it's own thread (I don't think...), I might as well post how I feel about "Community" here. That show rules so hard. Donald Glover + LeVar Burton was amazing.
  20. The most fun I've ever had as a baseball / Brewers fan was the Brewers-Sox series at Fenway a few years ago, even though we got swept. Great atmosphere around the park, pretty stadium with a lot of neat quirks. Great hot dogs, knowledgeable fans who were very friendly and curious about our club and city. I felt as though their fans respected us for travelling so well, something their fanbase is certainly well known for. Fenway, the best park I've been to. Besides Miller and County I've been to... Wrigley - always a fun time. Sure it is a bit of a "dump" but it just feels like baseball. Overrated dogs and an overrated surrounding neighborhood, but still a classic. New Busch - gorgeous ballpark with a great view of downtown from the upper deck. Their fans are passionate and knowledgeable...about the Cardinals. Surprised how little some of their fans knew about the Brewers considering we play 15+ times a year. They were very nice though, even as the Brewers led 11-0 in the 5th. Avoid the concessions - overpriced, soggy hot dogs and Anheuser Busch Metrodome - Terrible. Awful. Total dump. Had a great time going and celebrating a victory a posse of Brewers fans, but this place literally had no redeeming qualities. Twins fans embody "Minnesota nice" to a T, which is awful. I'd much rather sit around a bunch of aggressive drunken Cubbies. If I had to rank the 6 I've seen a game at: 1. Fenway 2. Wrigley 3. Busch 4. Miller 5. County ... ... ... 100. Metrodome
  21. I haven't been following the offseason as closely as some, but I've heard the Central is again supposed to be pretty weak. We gotta be the favorites, right?
  22. Oscar Charleston at least deserves a mention...
  23. Yovani's going to be fine. He's struck out 32 compared to 7 walks in 27.2 innings and hasn't allowed a homer since the break.
  24. I'm not really worried about the attendance, and I'm actually pretty impressed. Even with the crappy play, we blow similar size cities / markets like KC, Seattle, Cleveland, Oakland, San Diego, Baltimore, and Cincinnati out of the water, and we're above or near the attendance of the Mets, White Sox, Tigers, Rockies, Braves, and Rangers, all of which a) play in cities significantly larger than Milwaukee, and b) are competitive in 2010 I honestly don't think we're ever going back to the pre-2004/2005 attendance levels as long as ownership is looking to compete and we've got potential stars like Braun, Gallardo, and hopefully Weeks locked up. I think Miller Park and the tailgating atmosphere also help to bring out the casual / indifferent fans that are not necessary there to see baseball.
