  1. For all the Ned bashing that goes on here he needs to be given kudos for this move. Weeks is struggling and the team is in contention for the playoffs, so why not change to see if the vets can come through for a while as Weeks tries to get right. I agree Weeks should be sent down to see it that helps though. Was the Graffy last night that rocked a double and a homer, when was the last time Weeks had a night like that. 2. trade for a good, but not spectacular (above average) starter would not surprise me in the least, and I would love to see it. That could make for both a monster rotation and unbelievable bullpen once Sheets returns (which I assume will be no sooner that around September 1st). This would be similar move to the 82 Brewers picking up Doc Medich from the Rangers late in the season. It was just another arm that helped them get through the season.
  3. Him being the new owner has worn off and he has a better product playing so the TV station doesn't need to fill time with talking to the owner during a boring game. I bet if they are in the pennat chase later in the season he will get more face time and a interviews, same goes with Melvin.
  4. This will be a very tough call for the Brewers to make no matter what the young pitchers can do. Ben has shown at times he can be a top end pitcher, but those injuries really will make the Brewers think hard. If he is moved or leaves as a free agent this site will be littered with talk of how the Brewers will deal with his loss.
  5. In this day with all the communications systems this should be done and over with. MLB needs to fix this real quick, this just shows how much power the player's union really does have.
  6. This is horrible news for the team. Yes we have some guys to plug in unlike last year. But Yo is a rookie and will most likely be going way over his innings and could easily wear down from all the work. Also he is a rookie and we have seen already that rookies are very up and down on the mound. Suppan and Cappy are going to have to step it up for the next couple weeks so that this bullpen doesn't get fried like last year.
  7. Now with all the competition ou there, ESPN feels information isn't good enough. In fact information isn't anywhere near a priority. They want talking heads that the masses find to be entertaining. Hit the nail on the head. It really stinks for the viewers that glued to ESPN for years and now it has gone from a very informative news channel to a bunch of fluff pieces. Who's Now is the worse thing I may have ever scene on this channel, it use to be the spelling bee. I give them credit for the My wish series that is some great stuff and touches my heart to see people giving back to the less fortunate. I usually try and watch ESPN News more than sportcenter , baseball tongiht, and the football shows. Although gameday has gone more fluff over the last couple years and less info.
  8. Russ if you have an issue with me calling him Brittle Ben so be it. As long as I have been on this board I pretty much been anti Ben Sheets. That has changed a little this year. But this injuries are frustrating and even more this year with the team in the race. Impact has yet to be determined with this injury if he is out for a while Brewers are in deep trouble unless they let Yo go over his innings.
  9. Another reason as to why Baseball tonight has suffered has been that the same former beat writers (Gammons, Olney, Stark, etc) appear content to collect their paychecks while spitting out random rumors and trade possibilities without doing the same research/investigation they needed to do when they were beat writers. This can be easily seen by the Kendall trade last night, since it took several hours for ESPN analysts to stop mentioning that Marshall was part of that deal, even when there was information everywhere that Blevins was the pitcher involved Kendall trade has nothing to do with those guys you mentioned. Do have an inside source that told you they were laying on the couch last night? Peter Gammons is a highly regarded man in the baseball community. Its your right to have a different view, but still supplies a ton of inside information to ESPN with his contacts. The Dali Lama should never be messed with he has come back from near death to be at the top of his game again. When you talk about rumors and what he gives out, it is the same stuff he did when he first hit ESPN. Timmy and Stark are decent guys that have a niche with what they bring to the table, but they dont reach the level of Pete.
  10. Look in the early 80s Paul Molitor always seem to be hurt. Fans constantly got upset and bashed him because he could not stay on the diamond and contribute. Now back then it was word of mouth as there was no forums or internet. I have been impressed with Ben all year long, but his injuries even if unrelated are starting to build up over the last couple of year. Bad luck on his part or what ever it is hurting this team, and this year maybe a shot at the world series. The Brittle Ben comment was made because it is frustrating to watch our ace sit on the bench over the past couple of years when team needs him.
  11. Harold Reynolds brought very little to the table. Steve Phillips gives that show a side of baseball that very few out there can offer. Now he may not have been a great GM but he does give you what is going on in a GMs mind. Jeff Conine is the type of player the Brewers will be looking for, a veteran presence that can play OF/1B in a reserve role. Who do you think they are going to go after??
  12. I totally disagree with the soccer comments. Most kids now days can play both sports. I have three sons between age 10 - 5 and they my oldest two play both sports and next year my youngest can also play both. When I go to games I see a lot of the same kids playing in both games. We are constantly outside practicing both sports and my oldest sons are very good hitters for their age. They also show a better understanding of the game as they watch games with me and also work on all skills not just hitting. Lot has to do with parents being active with their children and good coaches. Nothing is worse for young players than coaches that don't teach them without making it fun.
  13. Brittle Ben shows up again. This really sucks he cannot stay healthy. He is going to miss at least 3 starts. If the Brewers give him a rehab start it will be 4 starts, but they did not give Cappy a rehab start. Good chance for these young guys to show their stuff off.
  14. I have not scene anything posted on the show yet. I know most people don't like ESPN on this board and I agree that the only useful channel is ESPN News. I was not to keen on this show seeing all the commercials, but I decided to watch hit and see how bad it was. Was actually suprised that was an interesting take on the Yankees and the city of New York during this time period. Will surely be watching the rest of the series as long as it keeps the interest level up like the first epidsode. Seeing if anyone bothered to watch it and what other people thought.
  15. Pass on him he is not that dominating and will not be an upgrade for the staff.
  16. Right now everyone is pinning hopes on Yo or CV to step and take over. IMO that is not a sure option, Yo got hit hard his first time out of the pen and CV became a christmas tree last night. The league will get a better book on Yo as he pitches so his domination will not come easy like a lot of people thinkit will. Cappy is looking terrible, but his veteran status will give him a couple of more outings before things get changed.
  17. Getting to know a new group is tough. Give it sometime. One of my best friends as been dating a girl since Sept of last year and very few of us have met her. I accidently ran into them at store in our home town. She has still only met a few of us and we all went to high school and college together. He is scared of us telling all the crap he did in younger days.
  18. Van Pezie is great when is on the radio. He does the steven smith imitation better than anyone. Suzy Kolber gets very little respect for being just a solid broadcaster. He doesn't draw attention to her self like some idiots do and gives solid information.
  19. cordero , of late has had his issues... not sure i would be willing to pay $10 mil for him next year the way he has pitched in his last 10 games...plenty of games left for him to turn it around... He was never going to keep up the ungodly pace that he was on in the early season. If he would have blown a save here or there early then some people would not be down in him. Every closer blows some game nature of beast so when he comes back and slams the door in the second half folks will be back on the bandwagon.
  20. you guys realize that claudio vargas was on the nationals last year and they dfa'd him, right? i'm pretty sure they dont want him back... Pogo it makes perfect sense becuase here on brewetfan.net we realize that once a guy puts on that magical brewer uni he is a better player than when he walked in the door. Keep Chad Cordero out of Brew Town he has had his best year and doesn't seem to be dominating like he was in the past.
  21. Why is it that people feel that Carlos is not vaulable to this team in the pen. We have a lot of talent in the rotation so having added depth in the pen is great. I love that people feel we can just move him into the rotation and the team will be better. Question #1: Who is sold that Carlos will be a solid starter?Teams will see more of him and batters will get a better read on him as he goes through a lineup more than once. He is no more sure thing than what we already have. Question #2: I think this is more important who is going to vill Carlos's role in the pen? The starter he replaces? This is not that easy as going to the pen is a different mind set and person has to be quicker to be ready to enter the game.
  22. Does it really matter if Suppan is the number 2 or number 4? It does to the fans that thought Suppan was going to be like a second ace on the team. He is doing his job of eating innings and for the most part giving the team a chance to win. His contract might be large but it was the going rate this off-season. I would like to know what some of these Anti Suppan posters would have done in the offseason? Not sign a solid pitcher and hope that our young guys could carry the load, trades some youth for another arm.
  23. Brewers Get: 2B Brian Roberts Orioles Get: IF Graffanino SP Bush AAA Starting Pitcher (sorry... my familiarity with the farm system isn't that good). Baltimore has no reason to make this move and they are not getting the value for Roberts. Would need to include a rock solid SP prospect to get this done.
  24. However, Saltalamacchia is a heck of a hitter, is young, and is a catcher. He could also back up Prince at first base. He could move to LF also to replace the platoon next year.
  25. Suppan is doing what he was signed for. Eat innings and provide the team a chance to win most of the times he starts. Now if you thought he was going to come in here and be a CY young candidate than that is misguided on your behalf.
