  1. Maybe the could use Vinny Rottino to catch this season.
  2. Zito is maybe slightly above average for a SP. He is still living off a couple of seasons with those good A's teams. He is not near the top of line starter that a lot of people think he is. Throw in the huge contract he carries with him and the only plus is that he is an innnings eater. Zito IMO is a slight step up from Suppan. Brewers might be in a 3 way but with Cappy injury it seem less unlikely.
  3. 1 Sheets 2 Yo 3 Suppan 4 Cappy 5 Bush Pen Villy Vargas Shouse Torres Riske T-Bow Gagne Parra is in AAA. Mota doesn't make the team unless a trade is made.
  4. Lets get rid of Suppan becaues he is not the shiney toy that most fans want. There is no way to know how Brittle Ben will hold up and if Yo, Parra and Villy can handle the extra work load if you move Suppan. Villy has yet to prove anything but that he is a solid middle reliever, what happens once the league starts seeing more of his stuff and he has to go through the lineup a couple of times. Parra has had arm issues and there is no need to press him. Yo looks to be the real deal but his knee injury shows just how careful you have to be with starters.
  5. Prince has done nothing wrong lately. He understands it is a business, and will get his money down the road.
  6. Would like to see the Gross/Kapler platoon. Both these guys would bring more to the table than Gwynn.
  7. If we could get something for Gwynn this is one fan that would be over joyed. Dont think he will bring back much but anything will be better than nothing. He is destine to be a 4th or 5th OFer for his career. Vargas has more value than Gwynn IMO. His arm could bring in better players, even though most people seem to think he has very little value.
  8. Villy is a nice pitcher, but I'm not has high on him as most. He had a good bit of luck last year whan he was a starter. He gave up a good number of baserunners that happen to not score. He starts letting those runners cross the plates and he is just a normal player. Vill is getting a lot of glory for a little success he has had. Parra should start the season in the minors so he can get some experience and innings under his belt. There is no need to rush him to fulltime starter at the majors. Team has a group of starters close to his talent and without options like stated before no reason to give up the pitching depth this team has by having to move a guy when we have options to keep all of them.
  9. I agree with JB12 on Rivera as a catcher. For some reason he gets no respect on this site. He would be a decent backup for this team. Seems like some people feel we need to find a V. Martinez or Mauer to catch till they will be happy. Rather save the money and keep bringing in good veteran catchers that care cost efficient and do the little things. Spring is hear because the Vinny Rottino bandwagon got out of the garage and down the road. Four years ago I could see him making the team so he would draw some local fans in. Now however this team is too talented for him to make the team. Yes he has hit a little in the minors, but he has a frying pan for a glove no matter what spot the Brewers try to put him at. Lot of players can play multiple spots, that doesn't mean they are good at any of them.
  10. Yes Yo will be back after a short time. But have to remeber that Brittle Ben is still on the staff, Parra has yet to prove he can go a full season, and Vill has yet to prove he can be full time starter. I will take the arms so that teams is not bring out guys like Winkleass to pitch in the majors. Want to Brewers to keep Gross, he play all 3 OF spots and fill in at 1B. Dillion has to be the backup 1B right now.
  11. Vargas goes into the pen as a long man. Parra can go down to the minors.
  12. Gagne is should come close to 40 this year. Over the last four years Brewer closer has been in that range each year.
  13. I don't disagree that this happens, but I disagree that it was the case with Inman. Baseball America had him in their Top 100 prospects in '07. It sure happened on this site last year when Inman was included in the deal last year. You would have thought the Brewers gave up a pitcher that would be an ace for 15 years with the team.

  16. Inman's test is in the next two years to see if he can get AA and AAA batters. Yes he has more Ks than innings pitched last year while with two teams. What I look at him I see that batters are catching up to him. He allowd 106 baserunners in 80 innings last year. Walks are respectable but players are starting to hit his stuff and is only going to get tougher to get out up the ladder.

  19. SteveO Why would we trade him if we dont have Sheets. This team needs to have pitchers. If Sheets leave you have Yo, Bush, Parra, Cappy as starers. Villy has not shown he can start in the majors over the long haul so you really cant count on him, Parra still has something to prove also. Vargas could be in the mix but most on this site have him out the door before spring is over. There really isn't a lot on the farm that will be ready at that time either. I dont see why Suppan needs to be moved off the team after this season. His contract might be bigger than what this team has had in the past but the pay role is larger than the past also. His value is that he shows up for his turn in the rotation and gives the team a chance to win. I wish Sheets would be there every turn in the rotation so that he could earn the big bucks he is getting from the Brewers, then maybe it would be not a heated debate on how good he is and if he needed to be resigned.
  20. Ender. Suppan is the innings eater this team needs to keep the young arms from being taxed. Just because he is not some sexy strike out machine doesn't mean there are 2 more better starters on the team. Sheets and Yo are better but it is hard to argue anyone else is. Suppan gives his teams innings and a chance to win most times out. CV has a great strand and hit rates last year as a starter so his stats look real pretty. Those things come back to league norm and he will not look like the lock for a starting role. His second half numbers leave a doubt in my mind that he could be an effective stater over a season, more the league would see him they would be able to hit him. He has solid bag of pitches but not two dominating ones that can carry him through times.
  21. Ben Sheets lack of durability kills him when you look at him and other top pitchers over the last 3 seasons. He has a ton of great other stas out there that gets pointed out by his backers. Like I said wins have to be part of the process when looking at how good a pitcher is, along with other stats that have been to the forefront lately.

  25. Post #23 by Tbadder. Ten people here must have spent sometime with baseball organizations, to be up to par with most GMs. Yes they have a very good support system with them, but most of them have come from the support system and paid their dues. It is easy to sit here and think you can make all the right calls as GM. I use to think I could do it. Then I played a fantasy baseball league that had a 40 man roster, and farm systems. We did everything like the do in the majors, but with two teams. I read every scouting report for minors and college players when it came time to draft players. After 5 years I had 1 league title and 5 division titles, but a ton of failures when it came to the young players. I read every respected guy out there when it came to scouting and still I know I did not have what it takes to be a GM. These GMs spend a number of year in lower front office jobs learning the trade, scouring over tons of scouting reports, and understanding how a complete baseball team is run. I believe there are some here that could run the business side, but not sure anyone is here that could be a complete GM that could both business and baseball side. You have to be very good talent evalutaor to become a GM and then make very few mistakes in the hotseat to stay there.
