  1. So what's our win expectancy with our crappy offense against an really good pitcher? A good pitcher in certainly hurts us but our offense is still just our offense, which is above average. Win expectency up to 13%. Brewers are going to need to start chipping away very soon.
  2. OMG! VillY! sux! Opps, sorry. Don't know what came over me. It really doesn't matter if our offense sucks today or not. We are looking at a 7% win expectancy with an average offense against an average pitcher: http://www.fangraphs.com/livewins.aspx?gameid=280410108
  3. Small ball has it's place but I don't know why you ask Hart to play small there.
  4. One more hit and Tom Haudricourt will conclude that Yost will be stupid not to start Gross against lefties, I'm sure.
  5. There were 3 balls that above average CF's make. Fly ball to deep center that (almost?) hit the base of the wall; ball hit over the wall that Gross wasn't able to bring back into the park... what was the 3rd one? I thought those two plays were difficult, so I wasn't surprised that he didn't make them... since he's not an above average CFer. I think we all generally agree that Gross is a below average CFer. What we aren't in agreement on is how below average he is. Some say slightly, others think that he's so bad that he's a liability there. Gross hasn't accrued enough innings for me to think defensive metrics really tell us anything, so we are only left with subjective personal assessments. The fans that rated Gross in the 2005 and 2006 fan scouting report thought he was a slightly above average defender: http://www.tangotiger.net/scouting/scoutResults2005_TOR.html http://www.tangotiger.net/scouting/scoutResults2006_MIL.html They soured on him in 2007, however: http://www.tangotiger.net/scouting/scoutResults2007_MIL.html I think those few terrible plays Gross had in 2007 have biased the public's opinion on Gross's overall defensive abilities. While I'd rather him playing RF, I think he can play a passable CF when injuries make it necessary.
  6. What big picture are you looking at? Gross is a lifetime .242 hitter. .404 slugger, who can't play defense. At least Kapler can play defense. Let's be objective about this: Vs. RHP: Gross (05' - 07'): .270/.361/.464/.825 (440 AB) Kapler (04' - 06'): 0.233/292/.292/.584 (288 AB) I concede that Kapler is the better CFer but those splits aren't even in the same universe. I do not believe that Kapler's defense makes up for the fact that he can't hit righties at all. I'm not sure that Gross is even average in CF but I don't think he's the defensive liability that others seem to think he is. He's not very fast but reads the ball reasonably well and has a good arm. As I've said before, with Cameron still susppended and Gwynn hurt, the "right" move is to probably have Hart play CF and Gross play RF against a RH pitcher but I guess that's not an option. With Gwynn hurt, Gross in CF is easily the second best option, IMO. "he hit .270/.361/.464 vs. righthanders the last 3 seasons" But only .244/.328/.459 last year. I'd take Matt Stairs anyday. Why would you reject a larger sample for a smaller one? Because it supports your argument better?
  7. I think it's becoming clearer and clearer that Cameron will replace Gross If you think that the Brewers make roster decisions based only on the results of 8 games, sure. Looking at the big picture, I don't think Gross is going anywhere. And I find it pretty curious that some apparently want to peg a 12-4 loss exclusively on Bush. I know it's a lot easier to just focus your frustrations on one player than a whole team but the whole team lost the game last night. Haudicourt isn't a Gross fan.... He just think's that Kapler is awesome because he's batting .412 in 17 AB. Good enough to start against righties, I guess. Of course, I'm sure Tom was also a huge fan of letting Mench hit against righties last year when he starte off "hot"! Gross and Kapler have a combined 28 AB this year. You don't break up a platoon over that. Tom doesn't understand baseball... at all.
  8. And of course, if the guy is a French Canadian, fatty closer with ridiculous facial hair and was recently named in the Mitchell report as a drug user, then boo him mercilessly, too. If you are a Cubs fan, maybe. I'd call that the act of a pretty crappy Brewer fan, otherwise.
  9. Even for an average lineup, it makes sense to bat the pitcher 8th but Kendall is especially suited for #9 because he has no power.
  10. If you watched Gabe Gross "play" center last night and still don't understand this move, you aren't paying attention. Yeh, especially that routine play that Gross wasn't able to bring back into the park. Gross is certainly a corner outfielder first but let's try to keep some perspective when evaluating him in CF.Both plays that he "should" have made were not routine. Hart should be in CF anyway, so this whole situation doesn't make much sense anyway.
  11. Man, Melvin is the king of retroactive DL moves.
  12. I don't care if Bush has a 78 MPH fastball. I'd rather have him in the pen than McClung. Why is he even on the team?
  13. What a weird start for Bush. If you only look at the line, you see 4 earned in 5+ inning and say, "Bush sucks!" If you watched the game, you realize he pitched like junk but would have had a decent line if not for questionable defense and crappy relief help. And this is a good example of why reliever ERA is basically worthless.
  14. Actually, Bill, Dusty is being smart here. He knows that pinch hitting a mediocre pitcher in the 6th makes all the sense in the world.
  15. I hate your stinking guts, you make me vomit, you are Scummmmmmm between my toes.... I just got transported to the mlb.com boards!
  16. If we are still going to get mad at a pitcher who pitches well but has bad results, aren't we supposed to golf clap a pitcher who would have had a good results if not for crummy defense?
  17. Has Bush been so sharp this game that Yost just HAS to get 100 pitches from Bush? I just don't get it.
  18. Bill Hall looks pretty damn good at 3B.
  19. What I already had typed: "Braun is going to have Estrada-esqe walk totals this year. It's OK not to swing once and awhile!" What I'm going to say instead: "Braun is my hero!"
  20. Brewers smashing the ball... all right to Patterson. Just the luck of the swing. I guess this is making up for the 3 weak, game winning hits last night.

  22. Much better results so far but bush still isn't right. 7 straight balls. Bush isn't the kind of guy who's going to be able to muscle his way through issues like he's having right now. EDIT: 2, 4 pitch walks. Fans are booing him. That'll learn em'.
  23. Dusty has to be really pissed that two of his batters are leading the NL in walks.
  24. I have 20/20 vision but I think I'M ready to get laser eye surgery.
